Can I just say a huge thank you to Mother Clucker? These guys were my Sunday night Saviours on the…read moreweekend just gone... I should probably explain how a fast food joint saved the day. Sunday was the launch of XP at the Mockingbird Theatre. This is a geek themed event held once a night and is a bit of a mecca for all things board game, computer game, quiz and film orientated. Naturally we had to go. I am currently on a bootcamp scheme (see http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/fit-body-bootcamp-birmingham for info), meaning I am on a strict diet of proteins, fats and No carbs. After consuming a smoothie for my breakfast and a salad for my lunch, I was starving hungry by 5pm. Everyone seemed to be either ordering pizza (a major no-no for me) or heading to Subway for their tea. I thought neither of these would be an option before a helpful person mentioned that Subway did salad bowls, problem solved... Or so I thought. Despite having all of the components of salad, Subway in Digbeth DON'T do salad bowls (and their staff are pretty unhelpful too). In a major grump, I left the store to see what else was on offer on the street. Right next door I came across Mother Clucker. Firstly, they scored a point for having a name that made me snigger, secondly... They couldn't have been more helpful if they tried. After a quick peruse of the menu I opted for lemon and herb chicken (which is served without skin). I asked if I could have some salad with this, after looking at me strangely for a minute - the guy said "Sure, we can do that. It'll be no extra charge". Winner. The chicken was cooked fresh for me as I waited and I requested some lettuce, onion and chillies (all I could have). I was even warned that the salad might be a bit rubbish as it's predominently meant for burgers, but I thought it was sweet that they warned me. My diet friendly feast was a budget busting £3.50. The guys that did end up going to Subway ended up pretty jealous of my dinner after all. This new kid on the block is sparkling clean, very friendly and super helpful. Will I be back? You can bet your bottom dollar I will.

The event was held in Lab 11 one of the coolest clubs/spaces in Birmingham incredibly fresh in the arches of digbeth there was both indoor and outdoor space and plenty of seating. The concept was amazing, take an amazing club, host 4 pop up restaurants and serve chicken wings and host a rave and bingo during the day. Execution was a minor problem, they had amazing pop ups with amazing chicken wings I have to say some of the best i've ever eaten. I have to say both Rebel India and Momma Bear Wings 'n' Tings were the clear favourites with amazing flavours and a great selection. The thing that was missing was the bingo, there was no bingo or any form of entertainment/games during the time I was there and I think this let it down slightly. Amazing food, just the lack of bingo let down wingfest.

I frequent lab 11 so it was a bit of a change to what I'm used to turning up sober for a start. The smell of the food as you walked in was delightful and we went straight to order. There were 3 of us so we all picked a vendor to try so we could get the full experience. My favourite was momma bears I opted for the mango jerk wings and they did not dissapoint. The vibe was very me even though there was no bingo I still had a good time. I'll probs go back tbh as chicken wings are my ting! And hopefully get a few rounds of bingo in.

I found bonehead online and went for a walk to get myself some dinner. I walked right by it once, so keep your eyes open. It was just me, so I sat at the bar. ordered a pint, some wings and tots. I ordered the dragon wings and Buffalo tots. The dragon wings sauce was excellent. The wings were cooked well and the presentation was good. The tots were the hottest part of the meal. This buffalo sauce has a bite. lucky for me there was plenty of cold bureau on hand. Thee guys at the bar were friendly and the service was great. If I lived here, this would definitely be one of my local spots.

We ordered three plates of topped fries, two types of wings, and three burgers. I also ordered a session ale, that sadly I don't remember the name of. The place was busy, so service wasn't super quick, but that's not an issue. I had the traditional normal wings, which are fried in breadcrumbs, and served with an amazing tangy ranch style sauce. Cooked perfectly. There were also some of the Asian style on the table. Which were equally as incredible. The fries, were topped with coleslaw, slightly spicy comeback sauce. Wonderfully done. The burgers got thumbs up all around. There was a buffalo and two hot head, I couldn't sing it's praises enough. My favourite chicken place to date, has been crackbird in Dublin. This has taken its crown. Bravo. (The beer was great)

Thankfully, it delivered on every level! Firstly, Henley is gorgeous. It's a mission from where we live and we've never been before, it's a properly quaint little town near Stratford with a lovely high street. We had a table at one of the windows and the view and people watching was superb. The new venue is also spot on. The interior decor is rustic and slightly vintage, with a modern edge (if that makes any sense). Its a big enough space as it goes through to a back room, which I imagine is rammed in the summer. I noticed they were advertising a comedy gig so it seems to have quickly established itself as a good entertainment venue in the area. It was busy without being too busy - always a good sign. The staff were friendly and the food and drinks came out in perfect time. And the food - wow. I went for the corned beef hash with fried egg (and a cheeky home made baked beans with beef to the side). Honestly one of the best brunches I've ever had. Crunchy and delicious on the outside, and the beef inside was incredibly soft and tasty. I also tried a bit of Ems eggs royale (standard) and it was creamy, light and delicious. The main menu looks very interesting too and we'll make the effort to come back and try it. They have a wide selection of wings, which we tried a few of back in the Harborne days, so we're assuming they'll still be as good as they were - especially the salted caramel wings!

This little place is even better because it's also called 'Chicken' so you know exactly what you're getting before you even walk in.....brilliant!! Most of the time I only buy my fried chicken from certain takeaway shops but when I visited this shop I was pleasantly surprised. It's not bad at all and they offer great value meals for those on a tight budget who can't afford to buy expensive lunches. They don't overdo the chicken coating as some places tend to overdo it and therefore the chicken ends up tasting horrible. Also, it's not as greasy as what I expected; which was a pleasant surprise as well. I paid about £2 for a chicken and chips meal and that totally filled me up for most of the day.

I requested some chicken, fries, ribs, a can of Fanta and a bottle of Coke. The chicken was horrible, it really was sodden with grease, the fries were soggy, the ribs were not made from pork at all (I dread to think what it was, I only ate one), it wasn't Fanta I received it was some cheap imitation called Mirinda and it wasn't Coke either it was Pepsi. It is safe to say NOTHING that I ordered was any good or correct. If you can't supply the exact item that someone has ordered you need to tell them, don't advertise Fanta if you mean Mirinda, i would not have ordered it. If you go to HMV to buy Despicable Me on DVD you don't expect to be given Shrek and told it's almost the same as they are both animated, do you? In bars and restaurants all places need to ask you if you are ok with Pepsi if you ask for Coke, for the full reason that it is not the same product. I don't really expect much when it comes to take away anyway but at the same time i don't think it takes much either to get simple things like an order right. I don't really expect much in the way of food quality either but there is food and then there is bin contents and quite frankly this was bin contents. Finally if you're going to call yourselves Chicken.com, why not obtain the web address that is Chicken.com? This only sums up how stupid the people who run this restaurant must be in the first place. AVOID!

If you've attended the University of Birmingham, then there's a good chance you know all about it already: Staples such as the 'number five' and similarly popular set meals (which are damn good value for money, might I add) are common amongst the student lexicon and are placed at the lofty status of "legendary". Much of this high opinion of the House comes from those staggering home from Fab - the guild's weekly clubnight which goes down every Saturday night. Therefore, if there's not much on your telly and you're in need of a laugh, your best bet would be to sit outside Rooster House from around midnight on a Sunday morning and watch the train wrecks come and go. I imagine that Rooster House does the majority of its business during these fraught and hilarious hours of the night and it's almost impossible to not get sucked in. I find the chips to be pretty good, but the hot wings are the real winner here. You could always get a pizza, but if you do then you're completely missing the point.
