To kickstart this review, I feel it necessary to point out that I have no idea what 'DFC' stands…read morefor, nor does their menu or signage present any enlightening facts. My best guess it that it's Dixy Fried Chicken, which seems to be a popular name for similar establishments, although I'm not entirely sure; for all I know, it could be Digbeth Fried Chicken (mmm, doesn't that sound appetising?). DFC functions as both a standard takeaway and, thanks to the ample seating inside, a sit in restaurant. I've tried out plenty of takeaways in Birmingham, but I've seen few shops as cheap as DFC, which has an extensive £1 menu, serving nuggets, donner burgers, chicken wings, and a number of other takeaway favourites, with chips, for just one quid. As you may very well expect, the food isn't exactly haute cuisine, but at that price, it's great value for money.

Sunday was the launch of XP at the Mockingbird Theatre. This is a geek themed event held once a night and is a bit of a mecca for all things board game, computer game, quiz and film orientated. After consuming a smoothie for my breakfast and a salad for my lunch, I was starving hungry by 5pm. Everyone seemed to be either ordering pizza (a major no-no for me) or heading to Subway for their tea. I thought neither of these would be an option before a helpful person mentioned that Subway did salad bowls, problem solved... Or so I thought. Despite having all of the components of salad, Subway in Digbeth DON'T do salad bowls (and their staff are pretty unhelpful too). In a major grump, I left the store to see what else was on offer on the street. Right next door I came across Mother Clucker. Firstly, they scored a point for having a name that made me snigger, secondly... They couldn't have been more helpful if they tried. After a quick peruse of the menu I opted for lemon and herb chicken (which is served without skin). I asked if I could have some salad with this, after looking at me strangely for a minute - the guy said "Sure, we can do that. It'll be no extra charge". Winner. The chicken was cooked fresh for me as I waited and I requested some lettuce, onion and chillies (all I could have). I was even warned that the salad might be a bit rubbish as it's predominently meant for burgers, but I thought it was sweet that they warned me. My diet friendly feast was a budget busting £3.50. The guys that did end up going to Subway ended up pretty jealous of my dinner after all. This new kid on the block is sparkling clean, very friendly and super helpful. Will I be back? I ordered the dragon wings and Buffalo tots. The dragon wings sauce was excellent. The wings were cooked well and the presentation was good. The tots were the hottest part of the meal. This buffalo sauce has a bite. lucky for me there was plenty of cold bureau on hand. Thee guys at the bar were friendly and the service was great. If I lived here, this would definitely be one of my local spots.

We ordered three plates of topped fries, two types of wings, and three burgers. I also ordered a session ale, that sadly I don't remember the name of. The place was busy, so service wasn't super quick, but that's not an issue. I had the traditional normal wings, which are fried in breadcrumbs, and served with an amazing tangy ranch style sauce. Cooked perfectly. There were also some of the Asian style on the table. Which were equally as incredible. The fries, were topped with coleslaw, slightly spicy comeback sauce. Wonderfully done. The burgers got thumbs up all around. There was a buffalo and two hot head, I couldn't sing it's praises enough. My favourite chicken place to date, has been crackbird in Dublin. Not only is the chicken good, but there are bottomless fountain refills which is rare in the UK. But more important than all of that - they have RANCH!! Real and legitimate ranch dressing. If you're not from the States, especially the South, you may not understand how important it is this place as real ranch dressing. That alone makes me want to come here more often. In addition to the food, there is a television that often shows American sports programs and games. Not usually live, at least I've never seen anything live, but still the fact that they play American sports is a nice atmosphere of being back in the States. If you are a local, come by and check this place out and try the ranch. At least once just to see what all these crazy Americans are on about!

But upon arriving, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Neelam's actually serve an array of food, all coming in huge portions. After having had a couple of beers, we were more than ready for a feast, so whilst my friend ordered a kebab I decided to order a burger. Both came with a side of chips and we proceeded to sit down and devour our meals in a matter of seconds.
