Extremely late opening on Thursday, Friday and Saturday is a new addition, which joins telephone orders for collection as a string to the bow. Yet it remains a traditional chip shop at heart, kebabs and chicken complementing rather than dwarfing the classics: cod, plaice, haddock and roe. The real change has come through offering 'all-day' breakfasts - a cheaper full English is available until 11.30am Monday to Saturday. But you can forget carrying home your fried egg in a tray. Sunday was the launch of XP at the Mockingbird Theatre. This is a geek themed event held once a night and is a bit of a mecca for all things board game, computer game, quiz and film orientated. Naturally we had to go. I am currently on a bootcamp scheme (see http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/fit-body-bootcamp-birmingham for info), meaning I am on a strict diet of proteins, fats and No carbs. After consuming a smoothie for my breakfast and a salad for my lunch, I was starving hungry by 5pm. Everyone seemed to be either ordering pizza (a major no-no for me) or heading to Subway for their tea. I thought neither of these would be an option before a helpful person mentioned that Subway did salad bowls, problem solved... Or so I thought. Despite having all of the components of salad, Subway in Digbeth DON'T do salad bowls (and their staff are pretty unhelpful too). In a major grump, I left the store to see what else was on offer on the street. Right next door I came across Mother Clucker. Firstly, they scored a point for having a name that made me snigger, secondly... They couldn't have been more helpful if they tried. After a quick peruse of the menu I opted for lemon and herb chicken (which is served without skin). I asked if I could have some salad with this, after looking at me strangely for a minute - the guy said "Sure, we can do that. It'll be no extra charge". Winner. The chicken was cooked fresh for me as I waited and I requested some lettuce, onion and chillies (all I could have). I was even warned that the salad might be a bit rubbish as it's predominently meant for burgers, but I thought it was sweet that they warned me. My diet friendly feast was a budget busting £3.50. The guys that did end up going to Subway ended up pretty jealous of my dinner after all. This new kid on the block is sparkling clean, very friendly and super helpful. Will I be back? Delve deeper into the store and the nautical theme continues with a very attractive indoor seating area, made up of inviting wooden booths, decorative brick-work, old-fashioned clocks and framed pictures of boats, fishermen and allsorts. The interior of this place is truly stunning when you consider its merely a local chippy, but unfortunately, the food isn't quite as catch-of-the-day fresh as you might hope. On my visit, the chips I purchased were rock hard and the cod meat was full of lumps of grey. I'd think if I had to label it, I'd go for 10 out of 10 for layout and atmosphere, and 4 out of 10 for food quality.

Open in 2010. I have to say that the size of the queue in the place indicated me it would be a good experience. Atlantis is also a Chip shop to eat in. There are tables and a nice vibe inside. it's a big place, in fact. I may go back there in some point and try the experience of eat inside a Fish and Chip shop. Unusual, I guess. The service is quick and really nice. We spent less than 10 minutes waiting to be served and there were about 15 people in front of us. No joke. I love the cod. I have to say. The first person who served me was polite. It was very quiet, I went to the bank and when I came back the staff rwalking round in twos informing people to leave, The second staff member was ok taking my orders, didn't give me a receipt I ordered a festive burger pie and hot chocolate. They'd run out of the latter. The police came in, they went to talk to so.e sleeping customers, I thought I'd witness another aggressive arrest on a homeless person. The person who served me called the police to tell tales. He served a drink to one of the policemen while I waited and waited. He finally brought it. I asked where's my, sorry for. Keeping me waiting? He replied something like where do you think you are ? To which I replied there is no need to be rude especially as I have Trip Advisor and Yelp to write it up. But upon arriving, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Neelam's actually serve an array of food, all coming in huge portions. After having had a couple of beers, we were more than ready for a feast, so whilst my friend ordered a kebab I decided to order a burger. Both came with a side of chips and we proceeded to sit down and devour our meals in a matter of seconds. Fairly priced and combined with a really friendly and welcoming atmosphere, the staff were as helpful as ever, so much so that I've been back, tried a kebab and can safely say, it was delicious!
