Upon our visit yesterday we found The Bank to be a pleasant, JDW type pub (including very similar club days, etc), and the food we had was well presented, tasty and great value for money. Especially the whole(!) grilled chicken peri-peri style with fries, four onion rings and coleslaw for just £ 9.29, which was rather good indeed. My friend had the chicken wings with the hottest-possible glazing, and hot they certainly were! Everything appeared to be on a higher level than JDW. And again like in a Spoon, there was no music playing, which we greatly appreciated. The Bank keeps a minimum of three cask ales ready and fresh, and there's the whole encyclopedia of alcoholic beverages on offer. The menu is expansive, and obviously this is great value for money food. When I'm back to Nottingham I shall certainly return to The Bank. All four of us felt that way.

The gratuity popped up on the screen when paying by card and did not clearly state that it was %, so my £10 tip from myself ended up being 10% of the entire tables bill, £44.76, on top of everyone elses tip, so BEWARE when tipping. Also, I don't know how the till works but I have a few items that do not calculate correctly, for example 3 portions of onion rings came to £17.68, this does not divide by 3?!? It was only 1p more expensive but how is it possible for the till to calculate incorrectly and does it do it often? Is this even legal?

I ordered something small, but made sure it was a range. Chicken wings, extra hot and wonderfully tingly and delightful. The chicken was good quality, and the sauce was spicy and tangy. The beef skewer was a little pricey, and was slightly overcooked but that's what you get from a predominantly chicken restaurant. The fries were standard, and the peri peri salt on top made them quite tasty. The best part was the serving, on a slate board, which made the eating experience all the more enjoyable. Service is brilliant for a fast food restaurant, and there's great seating too. Would definitely visit again!

Sunday was the launch of XP at the Mockingbird Theatre. This is a geek themed event held once a night and is a bit of a mecca for all things board game, computer game, quiz and film orientated. Naturally we had to go. I am currently on a bootcamp scheme (see http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/fit-body-bootcamp-birmingham for info), meaning I am on a strict diet of proteins, fats and No carbs. After consuming a smoothie for my breakfast and a salad for my lunch, I was starving hungry by 5pm. Everyone seemed to be either ordering pizza (a major no-no for me) or heading to Subway for their tea. I thought neither of these would be an option before a helpful person mentioned that Subway did salad bowls, problem solved... Or so I thought. Despite having all of the components of salad, Subway in Digbeth DON'T do salad bowls (and their staff are pretty unhelpful too). In a major grump, I left the store to see what else was on offer on the street. Right next door I came across Mother Clucker. Firstly, they scored a point for having a name that made me snigger, secondly... They couldn't have been more helpful if they tried. After a quick peruse of the menu I opted for lemon and herb chicken (which is served without skin). I asked if I could have some salad with this, after looking at me strangely for a minute - the guy said "Sure, we can do that. It'll be no extra charge". Winner. The chicken was cooked fresh for me as I waited and I requested some lettuce, onion and chillies (all I could have). I was even warned that the salad might be a bit rubbish as it's predominently meant for burgers, but I thought it was sweet that they warned me. My diet friendly feast was a budget busting £3.50. The guys that did end up going to Subway ended up pretty jealous of my dinner after all. This new kid on the block is sparkling clean, very friendly and super helpful. Will I be back? With the rest of the family off to a work related Christmas do, I found myself alone with numerous option for tea. Since I wasn't feeling it for the local chippy any more, I settled my craving for chicken. I did not let the threat of slipping on the icy pavements and cracking my head open deter me from my goal, with it being a rather short distance from my home. Stepping inside, I was immediately greeted by the cashier. She was polite, patiently talking me through what sauce and seasoning for the fries I would like. I decided on the six chicken tenders combo meal, which comes with fries and a can. I went for their original peri peri sauce for my tenders and peri salt for the fries, also opting for a regular side of onion rings for the hell of it. My wait time wasn't that long, probably five or seven minutes, I wasn't paying much attention. I bring my food straight home and unpack to get a good look. A rather good potion of fries along with the tenders: four good sized strips of chicken in a crispy coating, other two were tiny. Not that I minded because it was still a big amount of meat for me. Everything tasted amazing. The only thing I wasn't enjoying too well was the onion rings. They were cheap ones, but to be honest, it's been a while since I was last impressed by onion rings so i'll let that slide. The bill, was a tiny bit on the pricey side. But compared to KFC, it does seem to be more value for money. Either way, I thoroughly enjoyed what I got and will most likely visit this place again.

This place generated a ton of buzz before the doors were opened mid November, so naturally I wanted to try it! After stalking their Facebook, it seemed the best time to grab a table and avoid long waits was right at opening. My dining partner and I turned up shortly after noon on a Saturday and were seated immediately. The first thing i noticed is how intimate the venue is. There really is only a handful of tables. We opted for our own high top table as stools aren't the most comfortable seating. The menu is simple and specific. I'd check it out ahead of time so you know what you're in for. I thought the servers were great. Timing of food, not as great. They were rammed but we were the first people sat for the afternoon so I'd expect less of a wait than 25 minutes for starters. We shared some wings and beef chili cheese fries. Now, I am from Buffalo, NY. The chicken wing capitol of the world. We invented and perfected chicken wings. Its hard to compete with our wings in this country. Back to the review, here the wings were left still attached which I kinda liked. Usually you find the drums and flats separated so this was actually a nice change up. I do think they needed more sauce. Ours were nice and crispy but dry. Overall they were a nice choice for a starter. Ooh and the cheese fries are lovely and served in a little baking tin. As for my main, I had a buttermilk chicken sandwich which was juicy and crispy goodness. The roll was a bit too hard for my liking. I left most of it on my plate. But the chicken was amazing. Random fact about me: I love pickles or gherkins as you Brits call them. It's always a nice surprise to see a place over here serving pickles. I asked for some on my sandwich and only got one tiny piece. Step up your pickle game Buffalo & Rye! I almost forgot to mention the cocktails!! Such wild and crazy concoctions here. I tried a grape fizz and red kool aid inspired drink. Grape fizz blew me away. Kool aid was a bit uninspiring. Not as sweet or flavorful as I imagined. There's also milkshakes that looked wonderful. (You can only book for more than 6 people, which is worth considering during busy times of day.) They are going for a casual American vibe, but I wouldn't call it a fast food joint! Really great good quality burgers and dogs. I didn't sample the salads but they looked amazing too. The pancakes looked quite heavy and doughy but actually they were amazingly light and tasty. As usual they guys do amazing cocktails -but you probably guessed that!;) good for a lunchtime and quick evening bite.

Ten minutes later, comes the beer. That needs a fixin. Now, a burger is a kind of sandwich. A sandwich is something you can pick up with one hand and eat while reading a map. I got a cramp in my face trying to get my mouth around this thing. I had to eat this thing with a knife and fork. The bun was superfluous. It was tasty otherwise, though the 'onion rings' in the burger came apart long before they were cooked, leaving streaks of batter within the burger. They're perhaps best left as a side. The chips/fries here are a fail. The nothingness of the skinny fries or the pale not quite crispness of the chunky fries don't leave much of a dilemma. I avoid. As is par for the course in a restaurant that narrowly misses the mark, the service is mostly excellent; the staff is warm and friendly. That is worth the visit. Otherwise, some quality-control is needed.
