Just finished my meal three hours a go…read more I found out about this place a couple of weeks a go. With the rest of the family off to a work related Christmas do, I found myself alone with numerous option for tea. Since I wasn't feeling it for the local chippy any more, I settled my craving for chicken. I did not let the threat of slipping on the icy pavements and cracking my head open deter me from my goal, with it being a rather short distance from my home. Stepping inside, I was immediately greeted by the cashier. She was polite, patiently talking me through what sauce and seasoning for the fries I would like. I decided on the six chicken tenders combo meal, which comes with fries and a can. I went for their original peri peri sauce for my tenders and peri salt for the fries, also opting for a regular side of onion rings for the hell of it. My wait time wasn't that long, probably five or seven minutes, I wasn't paying much attention. I bring my food straight home and unpack to get a good look. A rather good potion of fries along with the tenders: four good sized strips of chicken in a crispy coating, other two were tiny. Not that I minded because it was still a big amount of meat for me. Everything tasted amazing. The only thing I wasn't enjoying too well was the onion rings. They were cheap ones, but to be honest, it's been a while since I was last impressed by onion rings so i'll let that slide. The bill, was a tiny bit on the pricey side. But compared to KFC, it does seem to be more value for money. Either way, I thoroughly enjoyed what I got and will most likely visit this place again.

Sunday was the launch of XP at the Mockingbird Theatre. This is a geek themed event held once a night and is a bit of a mecca for all things board game, computer game, quiz and film orientated. Naturally we had to go. I am currently on a bootcamp scheme (see http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/fit-body-bootcamp-birmingham for info), meaning I am on a strict diet of proteins, fats and No carbs. After consuming a smoothie for my breakfast and a salad for my lunch, I was starving hungry by 5pm. Everyone seemed to be either ordering pizza (a major no-no for me) or heading to Subway for their tea. I thought neither of these would be an option before a helpful person mentioned that Subway did salad bowls, problem solved... Or so I thought. Despite having all of the components of salad, Subway in Digbeth DON'T do salad bowls (and their staff are pretty unhelpful too). In a major grump, I left the store to see what else was on offer on the street. Right next door I came across Mother Clucker. Firstly, they scored a point for having a name that made me snigger, secondly... They couldn't have been more helpful if they tried. After a quick peruse of the menu I opted for lemon and herb chicken (which is served without skin). I asked if I could have some salad with this, after looking at me strangely for a minute - the guy said "Sure, we can do that. It'll be no extra charge". Winner. The chicken was cooked fresh for me as I waited and I requested some lettuce, onion and chillies (all I could have). I was even warned that the salad might be a bit rubbish as it's predominently meant for burgers, but I thought it was sweet that they warned me. My diet friendly feast was a budget busting £3.50. The guys that did end up going to Subway ended up pretty jealous of my dinner after all. This new kid on the block is sparkling clean, very friendly and super helpful. Will I be back? You can bet your bottom dollar I will.

It's also very good value, with that burger priced at £5 and chilli cheese fries and trailer trash fries, meals in themselves, at £4. They also do wings which I shall go back to try. The trailer trash fries involve pulled pork and are really delicious - that's about as good as pulled pork as I've had in Manchester, I think better than Red's or Cocka Doodle Moo down the road in Hazel Grove. My burger involved some good quality bacon, a fried patty of mac and cheese. I would have liked some ketchup but couldn't see it around and feared insulting the staff by adding to their masterpiece! The burger meat isn't quite as good as Filthy Cow, but good nonetheless. Some of the other creations get pretty wild Almost Famous-style, including a donut burger (or is that Solita?). I really liked the set up of the restaurant which had red booths, country music playing and drinks served in plastic red cups. As is obvious from the review it takes a lot of the best of the other burger restaurants in Greater Manchester and puts them together in a winning combo. I am close enough to walk to this place, which is both good and bad for my health (especially as they do takeaway). No doubt I will be back.

If you check their social media they post a special on Facebook every Friday/Saturday and they're typically on par if not better than the usual line up on the menu. The event was held in Lab 11 one of the coolest clubs/spaces in Birmingham incredibly fresh in the arches of digbeth there was both indoor and outdoor space and plenty of seating. The concept was amazing, take an amazing club, host 4 pop up restaurants and serve chicken wings and host a rave and bingo during the day. Execution was a minor problem, they had amazing pop ups with amazing chicken wings I have to say some of the best i've ever eaten. I have to say both Rebel India and Momma Bear Wings 'n' Tings were the clear favourites with amazing flavours and a great selection. The thing that was missing was the bingo, there was no bingo or any form of entertainment/games during the time I was there and I think this let it down slightly. Amazing food, just the lack of bingo let down wingfest.

The vibe was very me even though there was no bingo I still had a good time. I'll probs go back tbh as chicken wings are my ting! And hopefully get a few rounds of bingo in.

Thankfully, it delivered on every level! Firstly, Henley is gorgeous. It's a mission from where we live and we've never been before, it's a properly quaint little town near Stratford with a lovely high street. We had a table at one of the windows and the view and people watching was superb. The new venue is also spot on. The interior decor is rustic and slightly vintage, with a modern edge (if that makes any sense). Its a big enough space as it goes through to a back room, which I imagine is rammed in the summer. I noticed they were advertising a comedy gig so it seems to have quickly established itself as a good entertainment venue in the area. It was busy without being too busy - always a good sign. The staff were friendly and the food and drinks came out in perfect time. And the food - wow. I went for the corned beef hash with fried egg (and a cheeky home made baked beans with beef to the side). Honestly one of the best brunches I've ever had. Crunchy and delicious on the outside, and the beef inside was incredibly soft and tasty. I also tried a bit of Ems eggs royale (standard) and it was creamy, light and delicious. The main menu looks very interesting too and we'll make the effort to come back and try it. They have a wide selection of wings, which we tried a few of back in the Harborne days, so we're assuming they'll still be as good as they were - especially the salted caramel wings!

Not particularly somewhere I tend to go to when sober, it still does chicken as good as you can get outside of KFC. Also, if you're leaving town after a night out, its not as far away as Kebab King Gemini or Pizza Prince Shiraz. There's limited seating and for some reason every time I'm in there a local weirdo tries to either sit next to me or hold a shouted conversation across the room. Still, the food is good and cheap and it's handy for the transition of evening to night.

Hot 'N' Tender also offers the usual pizzas, burgers and chips and its student-friendly deals are imperative in its position so close to other takeaways and a Subway, resulting in pleasant experience for every person who dines there.
