My best guess it that it's Dixy Fried Chicken, which seems to be a popular name for similar establishments, although I'm not entirely sure; for all I know, it could be Digbeth Fried Chicken (mmm, doesn't that sound appetising?). DFC functions as both a standard takeaway and, thanks to the ample seating inside, a sit in restaurant. I've tried out plenty of takeaways in Birmingham, but I've seen few shops as cheap as DFC, which has an extensive £1 menu, serving nuggets, donner burgers, chicken wings, and a number of other takeaway favourites, with chips, for just one quid. As you may very well expect, the food isn't exactly haute cuisine, but at that price, it's great value for money.

Sunday was the launch of XP at the Mockingbird Theatre. This is a geek themed event held once a night and is a bit of a mecca for all things board game, computer game, quiz and film orientated. Naturally we had to go. I am currently on a bootcamp scheme (see http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/fit-body-bootcamp-birmingham for info), meaning I am on a strict diet of proteins, fats and No carbs. After consuming a smoothie for my breakfast and a salad for my lunch, I was starving hungry by 5pm. Everyone seemed to be either ordering pizza (a major no-no for me) or heading to Subway for their tea. I thought neither of these would be an option before a helpful person mentioned that Subway did salad bowls, problem solved... Or so I thought. Despite having all of the components of salad, Subway in Digbeth DON'T do salad bowls (and their staff are pretty unhelpful too). In a major grump, I left the store to see what else was on offer on the street. Right next door I came across Mother Clucker. Firstly, they scored a point for having a name that made me snigger, secondly... They couldn't have been more helpful if they tried. After a quick peruse of the menu I opted for lemon and herb chicken (which is served without skin). I asked if I could have some salad with this, after looking at me strangely for a minute - the guy said "Sure, we can do that. It'll be no extra charge". Winner. The chicken was cooked fresh for me as I waited and I requested some lettuce, onion and chillies (all I could have). I was even warned that the salad might be a bit rubbish as it's predominently meant for burgers, but I thought it was sweet that they warned me. My diet friendly feast was a budget busting £3.50. The guys that did end up going to Subway ended up pretty jealous of my dinner after all. This new kid on the block is sparkling clean, very friendly and super helpful. Will I be back? You can bet your bottom dollar I will.

There's nothing better than going home, popping in here and eating some real takeaway food. It's pretty standard fare if I'm honest, and their prawn toast is crap, but their chow mein is the best i've ever had. They have an option to include deep fried prawn, pork and chicken balls and hoenstly, I get a bit annoyed that no one in London has decided what a brilliant idea this is. It's probably a good thing I don't live so nearby now - this place would have clogged up my arteries way before now if I'd have let it.

The portions are huge and the chips are never too greasy, in the area this is my favourite fish and chip shop by far. It has a small car park which is handy too. As well as the standard fish and chips they also do kebabs, pies and burgers and sell cans of pop and pickles etc. The staff are always friendly and chatty and even when its busy you never have to wait more than a few minutes for your food.

Strange name for a Kebab House, but a decent little place none the less. The Turkish staff were very friendly and very efficient, 10 of us did not have to wait very long to get served. The place looked reasonably clean, but as with all of these places, could have been cleaner. I had a very tasty chicken shish kebab with all the dressings (Salad, sauces and lots of chillies, much to the dislike of my derrière the following morning). The place is on Frankwell roundabout, which makes for a very easy stop off when walking from town back up to Copthorne.
