The food is very nice! I come here everyday or some days and the food actually tastes nice and it's cheap!

Can I just say a huge thank you to Mother Clucker? These guys were my Sunday night Saviours on the…read moreweekend just gone... I should probably explain how a fast food joint saved the day. Sunday was the launch of XP at the Mockingbird Theatre. This is a geek themed event held once a night and is a bit of a mecca for all things board game, computer game, quiz and film orientated. Naturally we had to go. I am currently on a bootcamp scheme (see http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/fit-body-bootcamp-birmingham for info), meaning I am on a strict diet of proteins, fats and No carbs. After consuming a smoothie for my breakfast and a salad for my lunch, I was starving hungry by 5pm. Everyone seemed to be either ordering pizza (a major no-no for me) or heading to Subway for their tea. I thought neither of these would be an option before a helpful person mentioned that Subway did salad bowls, problem solved... Or so I thought. Despite having all of the components of salad, Subway in Digbeth DON'T do salad bowls (and their staff are pretty unhelpful too). In a major grump, I left the store to see what else was on offer on the street. Right next door I came across Mother Clucker. Firstly, they scored a point for having a name that made me snigger, secondly... They couldn't have been more helpful if they tried. After a quick peruse of the menu I opted for lemon and herb chicken (which is served without skin). I asked if I could have some salad with this, after looking at me strangely for a minute - the guy said "Sure, we can do that. It'll be no extra charge". Winner. The chicken was cooked fresh for me as I waited and I requested some lettuce, onion and chillies (all I could have). I was even warned that the salad might be a bit rubbish as it's predominently meant for burgers, but I thought it was sweet that they warned me. My diet friendly feast was a budget busting £3.50. The guys that did end up going to Subway ended up pretty jealous of my dinner after all. This new kid on the block is sparkling clean, very friendly and super helpful. Will I be back? You can bet your bottom dollar I will.

So I wandered tonight because I'd missed my bus and it was either this one or the one on the ramp which openly discriminate against homeless people. I didn't recognise any of the staff tonight. The first person who served me was polite. It was very quiet, I went to the bank and when I came back the staff rwalking round in twos informing people to leave, The second staff member was ok taking my orders, didn't give me a receipt I ordered a festive burger pie and hot chocolate. They'd run out of the latter. The police came in, they went to talk to so.e sleeping customers, I thought I'd witness another aggressive arrest on a homeless person. The person who served me called the police to tell tales. He served a drink to one of the policemen while I waited and waited. He finally brought it. I asked where's my, sorry for. Keeping me waiting? He replied something like where do you think you are ? To which I replied there is no need to be rude especially as I have Trip Advisor and Yelp to write it up. The place got noiser and noiser ruder and ruder yet no staff said anything. Won't be going back there for a while. . . ..

The food in this place is absolutely delicious and the fact it's a really friendly establishment where you can seat, enjoy your meal and also have a good chit chat with the staff, is just a bonus. As I am still learning about the art of eating a really good and well-done kebab I still think most of my experience eating this fine and simple dish was positive but I do adore the options at Mambo's and the fact the salad served in this shop is almost like a homemade one! The chips are also crisp the prices in this place is something really unbelievable ! So trek down to Mambo's as soon as possible and you will know what ! mean!

One of my favourites (there are a lot of those too) is Mambo's Fast Food on Hurst Street, which strives to be better than your average kebab house. I have to say that I think they are doing a great job and hitting all of their targets. You can pick up a Donner Kebab alongside salad and of course chips, all for under a fiver, in fact it is priced at a surprisingly good three pounds ninety. I say surprisingly good because the quality of food here would lead you to believe that it was pricey, clearly this is not the case. Worth a special mention is the salad, as strange as that may sound when discussing a kebab house. This is because it is a lot fresher, crisper and generally tastier than your average kebab house salad. So if you fancy a kebab which is a cut above, then Mambo's is where you should take your business.

Yes, all my dreams have come true and I can now access this high end junk food without trying to figure out which building works are currently thwarting the difficult journey to the Bullring. I don't think the burger meat is that great but overall the taste is good, not least because you freely can select your preferred toppings. The fries are good quality, especially with the seasoning. The soft drink machine is pretty exciting I have to say. I am like a small child mixing Coke and Fanta and then some totally inappropriate flavour like vanilla. As Dave M says, this is basically just quality fast food with good service and, priced at £10.50 for the little cheeseburger/Cajun fries combo, plus soft drink, isn't for everyday but it's good for a treat.

Bottom line is that I'm gonna sit on the fence although it probably would be more in the 3.5 category if I could give it this rating. I got my burger to go and ate it on the train with a bottle of their Brooklyn lager on the way home. Overall the burger was extremely tasty with generous free extras and the onions and jalepenos really hit the spot. The only issue here was that at almost £9 for the burger, I probably could have eaten 2 - maybe 3 due to the hunger I had - the burger was pretty damn small!! I didn't get fries but my beer was also pretty warm which wasn't great. Based on the burger I'd give it a 4, but the cost and size let it down.

The staff are dead friendly and you always end up stopping for a chat when you nip in for a takeaway snack. The food is simple but tasty and is a mixture of hot and cold stuff. Sandwiches are made to order, and they do nice baked potatoes with a variety of fillings. If you are in the area and are peckish then this is a great place to drop in on. If you want one of the hot pork rolls I mentioned then don't leave it too late - they tend to be quite popular and often sell out quite early in the day.

The staff are always very accommodating and friendly - when i went in on Saturday morning i had a good 20 minute chat with the staff, its always nice to get the local gossip! My usual fayre from here is their hot pork bap - its served (if wanted) with apple sauce, stuffing and gravy and is totally delish. I was taking mine away and when i got home i found that it had been put on a paper plate and wrapped securely in silver foil so was still lovely and hot. Its touches like this that make Emma's Pantry so good. They also do other sandwiches to order, homemade cakes, some pastries, baked potatoes and drinks. I have knocked a star off because when i went in on Saturday there was a lack of sausage rolls/pies etc which would havefurther improved the selection. They also sell cookbooks written by the eponymous Emma although i havent had a look through these. A well established, friendly cafe (there is room to eat inside and, i think, outside, although there is a park nearby so on a nice day you can lounge on the grass and eat your food) which i would highly recommend to anyone.
