The last time I was there they had a "buy one-get one" special, so placed my order for 2 subs. When I went to pay I was informed that I needed to have "the ap". Because I don't have [or want] a "smart phone" I was denied the sale price. I paid the full price ONCE, but decided that their subs are the perfect shape for where they can put them.

The only real difference is you pay the service associate that brings it out to you. Definitely a place to have close to exact funds, although the associate did indeed have exact change to give. Nothing overly exciting about the look and feel, other than being pretty open and not tight feeling in stall/lane. The food selection is similar to any other fast food location. Opted for a chicken sandwich basket. Fries were cooked nicely and not overly salty. The crispy chicken sandwich had good crunch and juicy not dry texture. The bun was soft with no seeds and sized nicely. All and all a good quality filling sandwich.

Unfortunately, they don't do the carhop trays anymore, but everything else is exactly the same, down to the ordering by telephone from your table if you decide to eat inside. The service was fast and my carhop was very friendly.... My order was simple. A papa burger, fries, and of course, a root beer float. The burger and fries , were very good. I think the fact that I hadn't been to an A&W with a carhop, since I was a kid, made everything taste even better. The root beer, float, alone, A&W always does a great root beer, float, but this one, also just immediately took me back. Not only that, but this A&W uses cane sugar root beer. That alone makes it taste better. The memory factor alone made this worth the stop. Prices are very reasonable. The restaurant is cash only, but they do have an ATM inside Thanks, for the memories...

I'm on a road trip to Maine and decided to stop in Ithaca for lunch…read more That plan lasted about 20 minutes. Maybe I caught Ithaca on a bad day, but it felt crowded, chaotic, impossible to park in, and somehow I still couldn't find a place that made me want to stop and eat. Hungry, frustrated, and starting to question my life choices, I got back on the road. A few minutes later I stumbled onto Mike's Mr. Subs in Dryden. What a find. Easy parking. No line. Friendly service. The place sits at a quaint little intersection in a town that looks like it belongs on a postcard. I ordered the chicken cheddar bacon wrap. Absolutely ridiculous. Now, I was starving, so I did consider the possibility that I would've eaten a seat cushion and called it delicious. But this thing was genuinely incredible. Loaded with chicken, bacon, cheddar, and somehow exactly what I needed after my failed Ithaca adventure. The whole experience felt like one of those road trip discoveries you remember years later. I drove to Ithaca looking for lunch. Turns out lunch was in Dryden the whole time.

The location is near SUNY Cortland in a quiet plaza, with plenty of seating inside. I ordered the fish fry with fries and coleslaw, plus a fountain soda. Bonus points for the Pepsi flavor add-ins -- I went with vanilla. The fish was huge, golden, flaky inside, and crisp without being greasy or overly crunchy. The fries were cooked perfectly, and the coleslaw was a real side portion -- fresh, finely chopped, and not some tiny afterthought. Everything was also impressively clean: floors, tables, condiment area, tray return -- all spotless. The staff was friendly, and even the other diners were chatty and welcoming. I skipped dessert because I was full and still had a drive home, but they serve Perry's ice cream and fresh-made sundaes, so I already know what I'm trying next time. Somehow I had never stopped here before, but that may have to change. Well worth the stop, and I'll definitely be back.

At the risk of repeating myself, there are a few types of restaurants I would never ever want to…read morerun in a bajillion years. BBQ is right up there at the top of the list, perhaps neck and neck with Italian-American red-sauce joints. Why? So many people have a laser focused opinions on the cuisine, and if an operator dares to diverge from that vision by an iota, the place gets torched in the reviews. Read these words: Cornell Chicken Let me tell you what Cornell Chicken isn't. It's not Texas BBQ. It's not Carolina BBQ. It's not Memphis, or St. Louis, or Kansas City, or any of the other glorious BBQ traditions that grace this very very lucky nation. It's its own thing. And it does not need any sauce. Now, how can a casual observer tell what type of roadside BBQ joint they've pulled up to for food if it's not explicitly written out someplace? Take a look at the cooking real estate. What type of gear do they have? How much space is dedicated to each thing. At Bob's, the Cornell Chicken grill is massive, as it should be. It is front and center. And on the menu, chicken comes first. That's your next big clue. Do they offer other things? Sure. If you are local and come all the time, at some point you may want to mix it up. I hear some people cannot live on chicken alone. Me? I just want all the chicken. Any bite of anything else on the plate is taking up stomach real estate that could be reserved for more chicken. And the Cornell Chicken at Bob's is delicious! Truth be told, I have had better in Oneonta. But this is right up there. The breast was a little dry, which can happen. Next time, instead of getting a half chicken a la carte, I'll opt for two dark meat quarters a la cart. Or maybe even expand the order to get a 1/4 pound of something else. But I tore that bird apart like an animal and cleaned its bones clear of all its succulent meat. And I was deeply grateful for the large handwashing sink to scrub most of the chicken fat off my shiny mitts. It was hard to eat while listening to other folks in the picnic pavilion dismiss the food for being something different than what they were expecting. However, for whatever reason Cornell Chicken just does not enjoy the fame and popularity of other regional BBQ styles despite its history, deep regional love, and sheer deliciousness. I encourage you to swing by and give it a try.
