Need more organization here. Plenty of cooks in the back but only one person checking people out, taking orders and giving people their food. What they need is two people up front. One to take orders and check people out. The other person to gather up orders and give people their food. It took me probably 20 minutes after walking in here to get my food. That's a little bit too long -for fast food. Don't you think? I mean I was the only one in line and it took probably minutes to place my order. I got their $5 box promotion. It came with sweet tea, 2 piece chicken, mashed potatos and gravy, biscuit and a cookie. It filled me up. I will get this again.

Terrible. Waited in line for 10 minutes just to receive a bad attitude and cold chicken. Will never eat here again.

Casual, colorful, the kind of spot where you expect someone to walk in wearing flip flops and carrying a fishing pole. Comfortable vibe. Easy place to settle in and see what the fryer can do. First up were the fried green tomatoes. They came out looking like they'd just won a beauty pageant. Crispy outside, tender inside, cooked exactly right. Texture nailed. But flavor-wise they felt like they forgot their gym bag at home. Needed salt. Needed a little personality. A rare moment where the fryer did its job but the seasoning clocked out early. Then the headliner arrived. The fried chicken at Champy's Famous Fried Chicken has a reputation to protect, and thankfully it shows up ready to work. Crisp, flavorful crust. Juicy inside. The kind of chicken that crunches just enough to make everyone at the table look over and get jealous. "If the deep fryer had a Hall of Fame, Champy's chicken is getting a first-ballot vote." And then came the move that sealed the deal. A dip into Champy sauce. Suddenly the flavor level jumped another notch. Salty, tangy, just enough punch to make the crust shine even more. The sleeper hit though? The cole slaw. Creamy, balanced, and actually refreshing next to all the fried goodness. It's the quiet kid in class who ends up acing the exam. Easy to overlook, but absolutely worth ordering. Now for the tiny curveball. I happened to land there on karaoke night. And let's just say... the speakers believed they were performing at an arena concert. Loud enough that conversation required leaning halfway across the table and reading lips. On the flip side, the crowd was clearly having a blast. A few genuinely good singers, a few that were more... enthusiastic than talented, and plenty of people cheering them on. Honestly, respect to anyone with the courage to grab a microphone in a room full of strangers. So no star deductions for that. The people who showed up to sing were having the time of their lives. Bottom line, Champy's Famous Fried Chicken is a fun place with seriously good fried chicken. Order the bird, grab the slaw, lean into the fried side of the menu, and enjoy the show if karaoke happens to be on the schedule. Just maybe bring your singing voice... or your earplugs.

Industrial floor cleaner aroma while you eat? A given. Asked to sit in a certain section but was told it was unavailable due to mopping--only to watch a couple and a Latin family get seated there minutes later. This has happened more than once, and it's hard not to notice the pattern. Drinks? $3.99 across the board, from fountain soda to Jarritos. To-go orders come with a "convenience" fee. Tip with a card? Another surcharge, and the servers don't even get those tips directly. Pizza: worth the hype. Everything else? A mess, literally and figuratively.

Parking is pretty decent for the area, with at least one handicapped space right in front of the entrance door. Walking in was surprisingly cozy, with wood on the walls and muted colors for the seating. We were greeted on entry and seated quickly. Seating is a mix of tables and booths. Our waitress left menus and took our drink order as we sat down. The menu is rather extensive. The primary cuisine is Mexican, but they also offer traditional recipe pizzas as well as chicken wings. Many dishes are cooked in a wood fired oven. Our drinks came quickly, and we still needed time to make our selections. After a few more minutes, our waitress returned and we placed our orders. We did not receive any salsa and chips for the table, which was a bit surprising for a Mexican restaurant. We decided to order their homemade guacamole to start. The appetizer came out in maybe five minutes. The portion was much smaller than expected, and the guacamole was bland. It needed a good addition of both salt and garlic to improve the flavor. In addition, the chips were straight from the bag, without even being warmed. The food took about ten minutes or so to be brought to the table. The Pollo a la lena is two wood fired pieces of chicken, along with salad, refried beans, and rice. It also comes with your choice of wheat or corn tortillas. The chicken was tender and juicy, very well spiced with additional flavor from the wood oven. The refried beans are not the typical gray mush but actually have noticeable black beans. The rice was typical, but included corn, peas, and carrot pieces for additional flavor. The salad included crisp lettuce and diced tomatoes, onions, and jalapenos. The corn tortillas are made in house and compared well to the other components of the dish. I would absolutely order this outstanding dish again. The pollo loco was another good dish. The ratio of chicken to rice was good, and the amount of cheese was less than typical, which allowed more of the other flavors to come through. The asada torta was also good. The ingredients were plentiful compared to the bread, and everything seemed fresh and very flavorful. Even the french fries were well made. The chimichanga was the least liked dish, but still tasted good. It was prepared well and had a nice cheese topping. On it's own it would be a good choice, only suffering in comparison to the other outstanding dishes. One word of caution: the salsa accompanying the pollo a la lena and the torta is surprisingly spicy. The heat is deceptive, coming on slowly and lingering awhile. Although I was surprised at first taste, I included it in every bite of chicken, so it is addictive. Based on this visit, I definitely want to try more options from the menu, especially the pizzas.

There are no steps or curb so walking is very easy. Walking in, there is a small buffet cart to the right and a cash register to the left. There are signs telling your what to do, but the person working the register was very helpful. You purchase a bucket of the size you want. Then you pack it full of chicken, potato wedges, and biscuits. Most pieces are cooked to order so will take 15-20 minutes but they will be very fresh. There was some chicken on the buffet cart so a snack pack could be filled quickly. Some chicken had been there 10 minutes or so while others were freshly added. They do take call in orders so you can call ahead and they will make your chicken so it's ready when you get there. One thing I really liked was they asked what chicken pieces I wanted for my bucket. Another thing I liked is they asked you to put on disposable gloves to get stuff from the buffet. I selected the medium bucket. I was able to fit about five wings, four breasts, four rolls, and a bunch of potato wedges and still get you the lid on. They do encourage you to fill your bucket which is nice. I feel I got my money's worth. The baked chicken wings were my least favorite, but not bad. They sat on the buffet longest so were a little dry. The baked breast was good though. The seasoning is flavorful but not spicy even though it looks like it could be. The fried chicken pieces were excellent. Moist and tender meat with a crispy coating that was not crunchy. Overall seasoning was mild. The potato wedges were more like thick strips. Some were over six inches long. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The rolls were outstanding. They must have honey injected or soaked in and then covered with butter. They are light but can be filling. It seems like they take care to produce fresh chicken and sides, and let you pick you choice of chicken pieces. The end result is a good value for some excellent fresh food.

Today I decided, against my better judgement, to go back to this Popeyes. Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment. I pull into the TWO LANE drive through to pick up a mobile order, which is allowed because it says it on the app, and was told I have to go inside to get my food. Funny side note: I looked a hot mess; pajama pants, oversized faded hoodie, and my locs were braided into 2 unorganized braids. I chose the drive thru specifically because I did not want to get out of the car. But I had to get out of the car and so I did. The store was EMPTY. There were 0 customers inside and all the employees were standing around talking. It took longer than it should have, for an empty store, for someone to acknowledge me. The employee went to an area NEAR the drive thru window and grabbed my food. I was shocked and almost started hysterically laughing. I got home and settled ready to eat my meal, and it was alright. Nothing to rave about. I got the chicken sandwich and mashed potatoes. Simple. My issue isn't with the food, I already know what I'm getting, my problem is with the overall way the store is ran and the employees. This location is a joke.
