When I tell you the caption and the first mate where above expectations I mean it. They were both professional and personable. Including my husband and I, there were only 6 passengers on board, which I prefer. I could not rave more about this place. We snorkeled for an hour+ and then went to the sand bar for an hour+ . The drinks were never ending, and the first mate even paddle boarded out to us to refresh our drinks! The best part of all of it is ... there was a doggy on board! Professional yet personable is the only way I can describe the staff. This place will forever more be our snorkeling adventure EVERYTIME we come to the keys! I'm surprised reading some of these reviews... if you're a Karen that wants to complain at every inconvenience.... This probably isn't the place for you. BUT if you can go with the flow and want a nice ENJOYABLE time! You should forsure book with this company!

I'm a little late for the review, but I've been running at the speed of sound since we got back…read more But OMG, what a time. Usually a long holiday weekend in the Keys is a challenging thought, as the traffic and weekend warriors tend to make a 4 hour trip into an 8 hour one, but given the break in the work schedule and the weather report, along with a highly recommended fishing charter operation out of Summerland Key, it was time to test the traffic gods and head south for a few days. We made it in record time, amazed that we arrived in time for sunset! We found our accommodations, settled in for the night, and enjoyed the most beautiful sky full of stars that can only be seen in these "away from the city" places, where the background light doesn't affect your view of the heavens. The next morning, we met up with JT and Debi Gabriel, gathered our belongings, and boarded the "fishing machine" for our day on the water. , being fair skinned Canadian and a desk jockey, completely covered myself in SPF80 sunblock for the day out on the water. The boat was roomy, had all the modern conveniences (we were able to charge our phones, enjoy our choice of music, enjoy beverages and lunch, fully equipped with all the modern navigation technology you could imagine). After helping load the bait wells with bait (fun!) we left on our adventure. The bay water was like a lake, calm, not a ripple. We stopped for gas at a local marina, where I picked up a pair of surf mocks/water shoes for $14 as my original footwear was not appropriate for the journey, as I was forewarned my apparel may be adorned with souvenirs of our trip, like fish blood and guts if we haul in a monster. Glad I did. We headed out east/southeast, for the first time in my life I was in a boat (other than a cruise ship) offshore out of plain sight of land. We crossed not one but two shipping channels as loaded freighters were heading south, and spotted a huge sea turtle along the way (very cool!). Finding frigate birds and weedlines we slowed down and hit a school of Dolphin (Mahi Mahi), where JT and Debi helped us with rods and bait, and before we knew it, we're reeling in fish in a fishing frenzy! We boated a few, kept the legal sized ones (one HUGE fish), and continued on for a while. Finding a fishing spot he knew from before, JT employed a power reel/rod combo for deep water bottom fishing. An impressive technical rig of multiple hooks, lights, etc. As we couldn't believe how calm, serene, and flat the ocean was today, and the partly cloudy skies gave us a little bit of relief from the powerful sun and heat, we enjoyed lunch and beverages waiting for our "guests below to announce their arrival". Next thing we know, JT's reeling up the line, and we have a beautiful tilefish in the cooler. Fifteen minutes later, a good sized snowy grouper! We realized the time and began to head back in, slowly trolling in the hopes of catching something, when we saw porpoises breaking the water in the distance. We slowed down and found huge (OK, 14 feet of shark is huge to me) sharks slowly circling the boat. We needed to empty the bait well anyway, and it was happy hour for the sharks, as the small bait fish hit the water, the graceful creatures helped themselves to our hors d'oerves. We soon had four to five of them, almost like a water ballet, circling on both sides of the boat, keeping us company while we had fish to offer. It was very impressive, and a memorable moment. We headed back to the dock, where JT cleaned/filleted the fish, and Debi cleaned out the boat and helped us gather our belongings. We cleaned up ourselves and were invited for dinner where we enjoyed the fish caught on our adventure, along with a few cocktails. The stars were out again, and some celestial event with Mars and Venus took place, and were clearly evident and visible to the naked eye. An absolutely amazing day and night, I highly recommend Boneafide Charters for anyone wanting to enjoy their day on the water in the Keys, for fishing, snorkeling/eco trips, and more.

Had the most amazing day on the water during our recent vacation in the Keys. Having considered…read moreguided tours for a few days, we elected to go it alone and explore for our selves. Nikki went over everything we needed to have a great time and made sure we were familiar with landmarks to navigate ourselves back. The equipment was first rate and when done we were greeted by a beer and a shower with coconut salt scrub. Nikki is a great host and quite entertaining. We saw a tremendous amount of sea life including rays, starfish and Best of all a visit by a group of 6 dolphins that played with us and swam along as we cut through the water! Was an amazing experience and the highlight of our trip.

It was a very weird day on the boat with Larry. How we got the reservation: We called and his wife…read moretook our reservation, she was super sweet. We let her know we wanted to fish for Reds. She said we would be fishing in the Everglades. Day of charter: We meet Larry, we climb on his boat and the first thing he does is ask if we have any different kind of shoes, that the black is going to scuff his boat up and he said a few bad words and made sure we felt an inch tall for not knowing. We've been on a few dozen charters, and no one has ever asked us to not wear dark soled shoes, so we genuinely had no idea. He was very rude about it and we told him we would just go bare foot, which we did the entire trip. On our trip out he said we were fishing for mackerel. Had we known this, we wouldn't have booked. We specifically asked for backcountry, it was the only reason we went with him because that's how he advertised. Backcountry, then his wife said that's what we would be doing. It takes about an hour to get to our spot, once we get there, he shows us how he wants us to use his poles. We've used these poles our entire life and we knew how to use them. BUT he would yell at us if we didn't do it exactly how he wanted. Three fingers on top, then the reel to a precise spot, pinch the line with the tip of your finger, no whipping the pole, and make sure to get the bell closed properly. That's literally how you had to do it every time or you would get scolded. I don't mind taking pointers, and his technique was helpful but the way he barked orders and scolded you if you did it wrong made me very nervous. Landed my first small Spanish mackerel. I've never fished with this guy so I didn't know how he liked to do things. Before with other guides they would have me hold it to the side of the boat or bring them in. I was already very nervous because I had been scolded so many times so I just didn't ask and I just left it in the water on the side until he was ready to take the hook out. He got his long metal hook puller and yelled "move back" before I even had a chance to move back, he shoved me hard with his hook puller, I stood there stunned because it really hurt and this guy actually shoved me. He is lucky my husband did not see him push me. And I'm not saying a little nudge, he full on shoved me. He would not speak to us. We always made the conversation. Only time he would say anything is if he was making fun of how " bad " we were even though we were landing fish. He gave me some pointers, but refused to help my husband with anything, and I even think he was baiting my husbands hook wrong on purpose so he would keep losing his shrimp. He would put half of shrimp on mine and a full one with most of it hanging off on my husbands, so when it hit the water the fish could rip it right off. I bet he baited that hook for my husband 200 times and then when my husband wasn't catching anything for hours, just told my husband wasn't fast enough, wasn't holding the pole right, wasn't casting right but then would give no feedback to note: . My husband has fished Kenai, Kasilof, creeks, oceans, rio grande, gulf of Alaska, and lakes all over the US. We are outdoorsman's, this wasn't our first rodeo. Funny enough i mentioned Yelp reviews at the end of our fishing trip, and he told me that those don't matter, people just pay to get them removed, but then all of a sudden he was baiting my husbands hook the correct way and my husband caught one fish after another....also, we weren't allowed to bait our own hook so that's why we didn't do it.
