Some of the advice I got was either bad or maybe even intentionally misleading, but there was a gentleman at Reef Light Tackle that was super helpful. I came in almost every day to buy bait and talk about where I should go that day for fishing and snorkeling with my family. If you're looking for a bait shop with really knowledgeable and friendly staff that are able (and willing) to give you the info you need for a great week of fishing and snorkeling, I strongly recommend this shop.

Probably the best snorkeling in the Middle Keys…read more Strike Zone takes you out to Looe Key, only thirty minutes away, and stops in two different locations, which are absolutely percolating with life. School after school of Sargeant Majors--enough to start a small war. We also saw a free swimming green Moray eel, and some of the biggest parrot fish I have ever seen--closing in on 3 feet. Our second stop brought a naussau grouper under the boat, which was joined by a smallish Goliath grouper, and two XL Goliath groupers, weighing about 500 pounds and about 6-7 feet long. Pretty cool stuff! Crew was great, and even paused to circle around on the way back to point out a turtle. About 20 people went out in the boat--I like the fact that it is a smaller group.

The lady manning the desk and taking payments was not very friendly but that only takes 5 minutes. We left the dock right on time and headed out to the reef to bottom fish. The best part about the day was how well Rich took care of everyone around us. You can tell he genuinely cares for people, loves seeing guests catching fish and is good at his job. Jessie was also friendly and helpful, and so was the captain...who surprisingly was also helping on deck. A couple of people on board caught a handful of decent sized fish but many others...including the three people in or party didn't catch anything of significant size. Most of the fish were just bait stealers. We did move a couple of times and a couple of nice size sharks were reeled in, but that was about it. Not the fault of the crew, just a bad day. They do sell snacks, water, beer and soda and that prices are reasonable. There is not much shade anywhere on the boat and several people had to go inside to cool down. Overall it wasn't a bad day but not the best boat I've ever been on.

Four of us chartered with Finz to go out to Dry Tortugas National Park and had an *unforgettable*…read moreday. I'll be honest: the boat ride out and back is a bit noisy and windy. But what you get in return is fantastic: - Captain Kelly was our host for the day, with Mike captaining the boat. Kelly was also our guide, and because we went out early with them, we got a full tour of Fort Jefferson long before the ferry landed and the hordes descended. He walked us through an informative tour of the whole place and clearly knew lots of the history. - Then we had a bite of lunch (they provide sandwiches) and went snorkeling over toward Loggerhead Key. Kelly was our dive master (snorkel master?) and was both helpful and encouraging to those of us who hadn't snorkeled in 50 years (that's Sean). He took us to a cool shipwreck, and Captain Mike was knowledgeable enough to know that we had a fairly brief window before the current got stronger (he was right). - Then we motored over to Loggerhead Key (the ferry of course doesn't go there) where they let us off onto the beach. We walked up toward the lighthouse, I flew my kite (it's a thing we do when we hike), and then did some more snorkeling. Kelly found several sea creatures to point out to us, and even took videos of us underwater! Throughout the day, Captain Kelly reinforced numerous times: this is your day, we can do whatever you want, and he went out of his way to make sure we had a good time. Originally we had planned to go the ferry route: the day we had was So Much Better than that!

Wow, were we lucky to find Finz when our charter to the Dry Tortugas canceled 5 days before our…read morescheduled excursion! Luckily, Finz had availability - and gratefully, we had Captain Rob and Holly to steer us there! His communication was EXCELLENT with texts in advance to keep me informed and prepared. We took their 37' Park Shark, which comfortably sat us in a cabin with plentiful views. The ride was a bit rougher than a catamaran, but it took us from Key West to the Dry Tortugas where Holly acted as our private tour guide, sharing insights about its history while we enjoyed the migrating birds. Afterwards, we zipped into wet suits that they provided to snorkel around a sunken ship. I'd recommend bringing your own lunch, especially if you have a vegetarian or pescatarian diet, but they kindly provide plenty of snacks and ice water. Captain Rob and Holly made our trip one of our favorite family experiences. Here's a photo and video that Holly took from our snorkel adventure. I highly recommend Finz!
