i have been a loyal customer for 50 years, i am probably one of the oldest customers here. this place used to be Pizza Go on 169th, then King of Pizza on 169th, then Key Pizza on 169th next to Drift Inn Liquors, Stanley Family were the owners then, then Key Pizza moved to the old KFC building on Kennedy ave. I have eaten this pizza for a long time and I will tell you that the place has changed ownership many times but the taste is still the same today as in the past in 1975, I used to order the stuffed crust sausage and ground pepperoni back in 1977 and used to eat it on on the stairs of the old Morton High School building steps on marshall st. on a Friday night as i remember back in August cause it was 85 degrees at night, ill never forget my cat snowball came out to visit me at the Morton building stairs, we lived across the street and I shared my pizza with my cat snowball, we ate the delicious stuffed crust and both went home together and cut through the neighbors yard, a memory ill have forever, my cat also loved Key pizza, enough of the nostalgia, lets fast forward to 2025 and the pizza tastes the same, original recipes and ingredients, thanks for keeping this Hessville Icon alive. read more

We ordered Key Pizza on a Saturday night during rush hour. Even though the staff was busy, phones ringing, pizzas cooking, orders going out for delivery, our order was perfect. Small keto pizza, spinach & mushrooms, medium thin crust 1/2 pineapple, 1/2 tomato, and a full loaf of tomato bread, (always awesome). I placed an order last night for pickup. I knew I was in trouble when after I gave my order for a large thick-crust with crumbled sausage, a large thick-crust with sliced pepperoni, and a large thick-crust with crumbled sausage on the whole thing and ground pepperoni on half, the person taking my order said, "Ok, now you've confused me." After that, it took a long time to get my order placed, but it was eventually read back to me correctly. When we got the pizzas home, the one that should have had just sausage was cheese only. I called and told them the mistake and asked if they would remake it. They said, "Well, the ticket said cheese." I said, "But I ordered sausage...will you remake it for me?" They said, "You were only charged for the cheese." I said, "Ok, but I ordered sausage...will you remake it for me?" They said, "You will have to bring back the cheese." I said, "Well, people already started eating the cheese." At this point, the people I was with were telling me not to bother. I said "Ok, well the people I am with said it was fine so I guess don't worry about it." At that point, they just hung up the phone. As I think back, I'm fairly certain there was no "I'm sorry." said. I know mistakes happen...but some kind of apology would have been nice since they clearly had no plans to fix the problem. read more

I just went here again recently for carry-out to introduce some variety from my regular places. I didn't have pizza this time. I was reminded why I don't go here a lot. Don't get me wrong... the food is pretty tasty. Compared to alternatives in the area it holds its own. That said, there are better alternatives. The service leaves a little to be desired. They sounded a bit grumpy on the phone... or perhaps simply not as outgoing as other places where they sound like they WANT your business. Took the guy some long pauses to take my order, didn't tell me how much it was or how long it would be until I asked. I felt like I was guiding him through the process instead of the other way around. Not very confidence-inspiring. I felt like this could be one of those times when something goes wrong with the order. Thankfully it didn't. Parking is very tight... nothing but street parking on a narrow corner where lots of other people park, including the delivery guy. You're lucky if you get a space in front. Otherwise you have to park further down and walk 1/2 block to the door. Fine if the weather is nice. Inside it's small as well. There are a few booths to sit in if you want to eat here. The few times I've been here no one is sitting down to eat, so I guess that's fine. They don't really engage the customer when you walk in. It's basically a dry business transaction and nothing more. Fine... I'm really just there to get some food, but compared to other places that treat you a little better, the quality of their food doesn't really make it any more worthwhile. Maybe they're nicer if they recognize you. I don't know... I probably won't get to that point. My main argument is there are many, many other places where you can get food just as good or better -- with friendlier service in my opinion. Because this was a favorite of mine from my high school days I ordered an XL stuffed crust ground pepperoni pizza and an order of jalapeno poppers. Repeated to the worker several times what I wanted. Husband went in to pick up our order and he was told that their "Broiler" was down so they did not have the poppers. Great. Get home and bite into my pizza.... Do you see any ground pepperoni in or on my pizza anywhere? Maybe they took 3 pepperoni pieces ground them up and sprinkled them on an extra large pizza... Called in to complain about how bad the pizza was and the girl said "I made it myself there is pepperoni on it it's just mixed in with the sauce so you can't see it." Really???? "My manager Dan will call you tomorrow to talk to you about this and make it right." Guess who never called. Now this is not the 1st time this has happened to me at Key pizza. I had ordered about a year ago and thought the pizza was really bad back then and not anything like what I had remembered from back in high school but convinced myself that maybe I had ordered the wrong pizza "type" (maybe I didn't order the "stuffed crust" ) and I should give them another try making sure this time to get the correct stuffed pizza crust type of pizza. Sadly it is apparent that I didn't make a mistake either time when ordering, the pizza here is just bad unless you get the owner to make it specifically. We have lived in Hammond all of our lives and have only tried Key Pizza once in the past 15 years. So we decided to give it a try. I ordered the family special XL two topping pizza, garlic bread, 1 lb of wings and a 2 liter for $24.99. First, the pizza was supposed to be sausage and pepperoni it was only sausage. and they forgot to give us our 2 liter. Strike 1 & 2 Next, the pizza was okay nothing to write home about. The wings (plain/ no sauce).....just say NO. They were dry, no season, simply no taste. Strike 3 ! We try to support our neighborhood businesses but in this case we will definitely drive a further distance in order to get good pizza. read more

I have lived in the area for about two years, and decided to give the place a try. I went to their website and ordered a pizza, and some wings for a delivery. It was quick and easy. Pizza was going to be delivered to my house 9:55pm. I checked the time and it was 10:26p. The pizza never made it to my house. I called Key pizza, but the phone just rang, rang. Apparently, the location closes at 9:30. I put my order in at 8:50pm. No one reached out to me to tell me that they weren't taking orders anymore, or anything. I had to call the next day for the manager to tell me that my card was refunded, and could place the order again, if I wanted to. She didn't apologize for the inconvenience, or offered to make things right. I guess i'll never get to try to the actual pizza. read more

Best Deep Dish Pizza I've ever had! I am from NW IN and have recently moved to Chicago. My roommate and I drive 45 minutes from the city to get this pizza every week! My parents have been going to this location for the past 30 years. It's the best deep dish pizza period. The pizzas are huge and a great value! Key Pizza is a unique favorite of mine. I get it whenever I am burnt out on all the other pizzas around and want something good and different. I am only referring to the stuffed pizza they make there though. I have tried the regular pizza and in my opinion the stuffed pizza is the only way to go. I am not saying the regular is bad I just do not know why you would want it after trying the stuffed pizza. I usually get a ground pepperoni stuffed pizza. If I want a little more heft to the pie and I am feeling extra hungry I add crumbled sausage to the pie. Many of my family and friends go there and I have not personally heard anything negative about this place in general. This place i a pickup pizza place. I kept looking at the joint across the street. I should have gone with that. I had a slice of sausage pizza. It looked like a frozen number with ground meat on it. When I bit into it the cheese pulled everything off in one piece. Ah! plastic cheese. It was way to salty and for two and a half I was ripped off. I'm leaving my review at five stars, as I love their crumbled sausage deep dish pizza. But I had an annoying friend (the kind of friend no one likes but you have to invite places) insist on getting the chunk sausage instead. DO NOT. There is not enough seasoning in this pizza to do something simple like plain cheese or their completely different, breakfast-sausage-y chunks sausage. This place is a hit or miss, when owners are there pizza is tasty. When its the workers pizza is only edible. Price wise is good but lack of taste in the ingredients. Disappointing, menu shows supreme pizza with stuffed crust that stands tall and is mega stuffed. Had these pizzas for years. The pizza they sell you is a garden variety stuffed crust pizza you can buy anywhere. When I questioned the employee about the photo online not matching what I was given all she said was that the owners son made that pizza and because of cost they don't make them like that anymore. Where else do they cut corners but advertise what they use to sell. I would not recommend there pizza. There are much better pizzas in the area. read more

We have always loved Key pizza until tonight. We ordered pizza and wings for delivery. After our food was delivered, about a half hour later we get a phone call from a girl with an attitude saying that we owe her $17 because we got a larger pizza than we ordered. How are we supposed to know that (never have ordered an xl pizza so we didn't know what it looked like)? We informed her that the driver brought the pizza to the door and we informed him that we had an order of wings and he then look at our receipt for a bit and said "oh ya you did". He goes back to the car to get them. He looked at our receipt and didn't notice he gave us a larger pizza than we ordered??? The girl on the phone then was blaming us saying that he tried to call to get the pizza back and I have no missed calls. Why would I answer her call but not his? We would have gladly given the pizza back if it was ours and why didn't he come and knock on the door??? It even had the same exact ingredients we ordered on our pizza. After we told her we felt we shouldn't have to pay that extra money for their mistake she said fine we will never deliver to you again. Well key pizza you have lost a customer and I will be sure to tell everyone I know never to order from you. I am a business owner as well and would NEVER EVER blame a customer for an employees mistake. That is terrible business practice and your employees needs to be re-trained on proper customer service. read more
