I called to make an appointment to have my teeth cleaned and x-rays. I have no insurance so I asked the cost. They said they have a new patient deal for $149. All they did was take x-rays and said I needed a deep cleaning. They didn't do anything to my teeth. My parents have dental insurance and wanted to get a cleaning. It covers 90%. They refused to use the x-rays they already had and wanted to charge $389 for them both for new x-rays. Be aware this place seems to be more about money than care. read more

Chose this as a new dentist for myself. Saw Kevin Shim to address a wisdom tooth issue and possibly have some fillings done. Also needed a cleaning. His hygienist took x-rays and discovered I had a definite need for a wisdom tooth extraction. Dr Shim referred me to an oral surgeon and said to come back in for a cleaning and comprehensive exam. I scheduled my consult with the oral surgeon and scheduled my comp exam for August 15th. Today, I received a certified letter from Kevin Shim that he longer wants to be my dentist going forward. Don't get it at all. I will move on and find a new dentist. I would nor recommend this dentist to anyone. Not professional at all. read more

We began seeing him when we lived in Gresham, then we moved out to Vancouver, WA but decided to continue seeing Dr. Shim in Gresham because he's the best in the business! The staff is wonderful; very professional and personable and that's part of the reason we keep coming back. The other is the quality of dental care that Dr. Shim provides. This is a hard review to write as I didn't really ever get a chance to be treated by Dr. Shim. His office terminated our relationship before he began treatment. In my initial consult and exam with x-rays ($432.00) with him on 10/1/2015 he came off as a very warm and caring person. I don't have any reason to doubt that is true. I did have 2 quad periodontal scaling and root planing deep cleaning sessions on 10/21/2015 and 10/29/2015 respectively. The hygienist that did the work was top notch. I'm going to miss her. The price for those two sessions was $1,472.00. The problem I had with the front office over insurance billing is the reason for only one star. And being terminated as a patient. That didn't feel good. Questioning the ability of the office to navigate through my insurance companies is what got me terminated as a patient. They all seemed pretty nice until I had a problem getting my Health Savings Account (HSA) funds from my work plan. I made the mistake of emailing my concerns about being out $736.00 ( I had to pay my half upfront at the time of the treatment) close to Christmas. One phone call from the office telling me they were offended and upset that I'd question their ability in the single email I'd sent while I explained and said over a half a dozen times that I would help them and do whatever it took to move forward and get my money and theirs. I sensed the gal wanted me to apologize for my email but I didn't say anything offensive. so I didn't offer an apology. I was late to a meeting and just getting out of my car when the she called. After the gal repeatedly told me about her 20 years of experience and how she was offended i finally said if my questions soured the relationship with the office then I would need to seek treatment elsewhere. I again said I would do whatever was needed to move forward. At that point I thought this could be salvaged, but I for sure didn't want to walk into an office getting the evil eye all the time either. Today I got an email from the office that i was no longer a patient and all my future appointments were cancelled. The $12,932 treatment plan that Dr. Shim had worked up for me was null and void. Kind of left me cold. And not feeling very generous with stars. read more

My brother has been raving about his high-tech, super-savvy, calm and fabulous dentist for years, yet because I was satisfied with mine (and loved my hygienist) I didn't see a reason to switch. Until now. I was diagnosed with a tooth resorption issue 4 years ago (caught by that great hygienist). This is an auto-immune mystery in which one's body decides a perfectly good root is an invading enemy and absorbs it. Yuck. My alarmed dentist said he rarely had seen this, suggested I get a second opinion from an oral surgeon, and together those two said just wait it out...let the tooth fall out or break on its own and then we'd deal. Then I switched to Kaiser and they said: "no, deal with it now before it breaks. Use an oral surgeon. Count on $5k for starters for the extraction and implant." My brother urged me again to see Dr. Shim. Here's the deal: Dr. Shim said he sees many of these a month,, and has been trained to do the extraction with the delicate root situation so no oral surgeon is needed. He handles the implant himself. The x-rays of the tooth were bigger, clearer than either of the 3 different offices I'd visited for this. He offered me a 2 year interest free loan, and quoted a maximum of $4.6K. This includes two phases of retainers so my top canine isn't a gaping hole for the next 4 months while the implant has a chance to take hold. The process itself was swift, warm, comforting, well-drugged -- and documented so the next day I was able to hear exactly how it went. And I haven't even begun to talk about how personable and capable he and his office staff and assistants are. I'm completely sold. While I'm a huge Kaiser fan, I'm seriously considering dropping dental coverage so I can utilize Dr Shim for all my needs. In any case: this was such a life-saver since my policy doesn't cover implants. This practice is stellar. read more

I hate dentists. I hate the way the office smells, I hate the feeling I get when I go into one, and my god I hate the drilling. HOWEVER!!!!! This dentist, and office, has been a lifesaver for me. I can not reccomend them high enough to anyone who will listen. The office is very nice, clean and friendly. Everyone there is incredibly nice to me and my 3 year old son when we come in. they are extremly helpful finding you an appointment that fits into your time, and are helpful with billing. Dr. Shim employs the nicest people. NICEST! Dr. Shim is friendly, reassuing, and professional. He is honest, does great work, and helps you along your way. Dr. Shim and his fabulous staff and Hygienists have been taking care of my dental needs for approximately 10 years. Going to the dentist is not a favorite thing to do for many folks however the staff at Premier Dentistry will make you feel at ease and most comfortable with whatever procedure you're having. The new clinic has state of the art equipment and technology with TV on the ceiling. The decor is rad, compliments of Dr. Shim's very talented wife and her creativity! Love the color scheme! WOW, this was the best Dentist I've ever had! I found them on Yelp and I won't go do anything unless it has 5 star reviews. I had a broke tooth that my old dentist could not fix. Dr. Kevin Shim got me in asap and in one visit had my new crown on and done! He has all the digital equipment - Digital ex-ray and the digital milling machines to do crowns in the office, so my point is, that it's all in one visit, no temporary tooth, no return appointments to finish up. He is the BEST! I'm moving my entire family into his practice. Everything is High Tech, you have to see this office. The staff is so nice and professional, with a great attitude. Dr.Shim is the most caring, skilled dentist I have ever met. I used to suffer from dental anxiety but he makes getting numb painless. All of his staff is friendly and supportive. I'm literally in the dentist chair as I type this. (using the free wi-fi in the office). Dr. Shim and his staff are fantastic! Kelley is hilairous and professional. She cleans my teeth like no one's business. Erica acts as Dr. Shim's right hand and they truly function as a team working on my teeth. I'm 100% confident in her skills. Dr. Shim is funny and totally puts me at ease. The shots don't hurt (seriously) but that's not even the best part. He is so forward with the technology that he is practically using stuff that is not invented yet. I've had a LOT of crowns over the years and you know how you go in for the drilling and the build up and the impressions and then get the temporary crown, THEN come back in a week and go through that same process to get the 'real one' one? well, here it's all in one visit! He makes them in the office. (i think there may be an oven involved?) anyway, as i sit here on the wi-fi my crowns (two today!) are being finalized. I've been seeing him for years and it feels like every time I come in he is using some new technology. love. Let's not leave out biling. The gal who manages the front desk, Emily, is always very friendly and remembers me. She also does all the benefit confirmations and works out the billing piece. She helps guide your treatment plan (as far as the money goes) with aplomb. Oh. also, they text or email you to remind you of your appointment. If you are in the Gresham or Troutdale area it's a no brainer that you should come here. Everyone here is fantastic! My husband is terrified of going to the dentist. When I called in to see if he could be seen that same day due to some pretty nasty pain, they were able to squeeze him in when they usually weren't even open. When we arrived everyone was super nice and made the hubs as comfortable as possible. He is one to try to escape from a dentist office from fear of pain - but these folks had him at ease. Dr. Shim is very professional as is most of his staff. His accounting manager ruined the entire experience for me. She called me and asked "are you going to pay your bill or not?" after I said I was at work and couldn't talk at the moment. The conversation escalated with her telling me I was rude and not welcomed back. Which is obviously fine with me. Last year I had a terrible experience at care one dental, they told me I was going to need 2 root canals and possibly a 3rd but couldn't tell me for sure until 'we get in there' and quoted me a price which ended up scaring me away. Then I had a tooth break which was awful! I was so scared because I didn't know where to go, then a friend of mine referred me to Dr. Shim. So I called and told them about my emergency, they fit me in right away! Dr. Shim had a full day but once he saw my tooth he made time to repair it and I ended up coming back to get the rest fixed as well. He really tried to save the other problem teeth without having to do root canals and was able to save me a lot of money that way. I am so grateful he fit me in that day and made me feel so comfortable and I knew I was in good hands. I would recommend him any day and I do all the time! read more

I had just sort of a consultation, but everyone seemed pretty cool. The place is nice and they're great at informing you on what they're doing. The office is super modern looking with nice furnishings. The TVs on the ceiling above the dental chair is a nice touch. I'm not too experienced with dental prices but they seem expensive.
