I went on a recommendation and was looking for a new wedding ring. I wasn't really sure what I wanted and felt like I was of no help to Ronnie K. who was generously helping me. Being from Texas, the NY diamond district is as far away from home as it gets, but he made me feel at home. I was very ignorant about jewelry terms, stones etc. We chatted and he finally asked me about my existing ring. I told him that I didn't like it and why. He then proposed the best solution ever.....design a few changes that would make the ring prettier, the stone more beautifully displayed and add a wedding band in matching diamonds. As luck would have it, he had the band that matched in a case!!! How lucky is that? He described what he would do with the ring and the main diamond...which is a pretty decent princess cut stone. So, I leave my ring there with him and his talent. When the ring was delivered (to Texas) it was BEAUTIFUL. I LOVE IT. I did not know that this ring could be so pretty. The diamond actually looks better in this setting AND the ring no longer gets caught on everything. I receive so many compliments on it and am happy that I did not have to get a new wedding ring. AVOID THIS STORE LIKE THE PLAGUE! The owner Ronny is the rudest most obnoxious, condescending person I have ever dealt with. Went in on a recommendation to get a ring sized and setting checked on an engagement ring and he wouldn't work on it. Called the ring c**p which upset my fiancé greatly since it has tremendous sentimental value and means a lot to us. Needless to say it made me feel bad too because I went to great lengths to get this ring from abroad where she fell in love with it. I couldn't believe someone would be such an...well this is a family site so I will reframe from using the language I really want to, and be so insensitive. Could have easily just said since I didn't make it I don't feel comfortable working on it and left it there. He was also argumentative and dismissive. I found them after spending days looking and finally another nice jeweler referred me to them as he did not have engagement rings. That tells you already about their reputation. Over the past two years I have received numerous postcards,which has only caused me additional upset. If you won't accept my word, go ahead and ask my insurance agent Sharon Eddy or Brian Coleman from the loss division from the insurance company.This is why I emailed your business and told you to stop mailing anything to me.In your business description you write you've been in the jewelry business for twenty odd years.You must be aware of the emotional significance an item of jewelry can have.Whether it's an engagement ring,anniversary ring,earrings,pendant whatever the item, if it's stolen or just misrepresented there is a feeling of loss and violation. This is how I feel,violated.If you are saying Mr.Kestenbaum is no longer part of your business,and yet you were aware of this situation,how he screamed and ranted at me,and all the other people that tried to intercede on my behalf. What have you done personally to correct this situation?This is not in the past for me. My opinion stands- using this merchant whether it's Weisner or Kestenbaum,you are not dealing with reputable merchants. If they stood behind their work and honored their receipts,sold items of a specific quality, what happened to me wouldn't have happened. REMEMBER WHO DENIED MAKING the ring to my INSURANCE COMPANY,NYC DEPARTMENT OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS and the JEWELERS VIGILANCE COMMITTEE.It was claimed I supposedly paid K&W $1350.00 to appraise a ring!Nonsense! Not only did they treat me horribly,skirt around the facts with sloppy documentation,they have destroyed my sense of trust in any and all jewelers. I have a ring that can't be worn,just seeing it causes me to be physically ill.My insurance company compensated me in 2009 for a portion of the ring,but not enough to remake the ring.They did this after paying for the repair from 2005.They wouldn't have done this if they didn't find that there was something really wrong with this mess. In 1991 when I added the extra diamonds,Mr. Weisner never sent a proper receipt or appraisal,when the ring was returned to me. Foolishly I didn't get the ring independently appraised then or when I got it back,after they had it in their possession for 6 months to remake it in 2005. I was too trusting. I am out $6500.00,that was needed to cover the cost of remaking the ring and that was at the fall 2009 metal prices,precious metals have gone UP dramatically since then. I still stand behind the opinion,when you buy any jewelry find the best appraiser not associated with the jeweler or any jewelry district to do your appraisal.Your purchase receipts must clearly define what you are purchasing,and heads up any appraisal the jeweler gives isn't worth the paper it's written on.You might use it for insurance purposes,that's it. read more

My fiance bought me the engagement ring from Louie Kestenbaum back in April of 2010. The large solitaire stone is stunningly brilliantly beautiful. I get compliments daily. Louie's service was excellent, he was very professional, showed us many options and stayed within the budget. Some months later, he also resized the ring and cleaned it all for free of charge. Shopping for ring can be nerve wracking to say the least. Its common knowledge that retail jewelry stores can overcharge by 2 or 3 times the price for a stone. The diamond district is the clear alternative to finding a nice ring at a very reasonable price, however, navigating through all the intense pushy salesman and jewelry jargon makes the experience nauseating. At Kestenbaum and Weisner, I was able to find a reasonably priced ring with no pressure of making the purchase. I visited the store 5 times, custom designing the ring with Louie, the salesman. He was patient, respectful and in the end, I was able to give my fiance the ring of her dreams without overpaying. Since purchasing the engagement ring at K + W, I've sent my brother who also purchased his and I am now returning this winter for our wedding bands. As a customer they treat you nicely and their diamonds are good quality but in my experience the quality of their merchandise is not worth the $$. My husband purchased a platinum pave setting from Kestenbaum & Weisner for my 3.5 diamond. After one year the platinum band cracked, literally split open and K & W repaired it at no charge. A year later we moved to Austin, Tx. The pave diamonds started falling out of the setting. I had to have it repaired at least 6 times. I took it to multiple jewelers for advise on how to stop this from happening. I had the prongs rebuilt to try and eliminate the problem and avoid the several thousand dollar expense of having to purchase a new ring. It seemed to have worked until the platinum band cracked again in 2 places. When I contacted K&W they said to send them the ring, which i did. They sent it back to me with a letter stating they didn't have any record of this purchase and because I had the repairs done elsewhere all warranties were null and void anyway. They said the repairs are what caused the cracking. One of the cracks was on the band itself, no where near the repairs of the pave diamonds!! Then they went on to say wear and tear, blah, blah, blah. ITS PLATINUM!!! These rings last generations. I'm a student and stay at home mom. Theres minimal wear and tear.. Upon inspection by 3 different jewelers there was a problem with the porosity and thats why the ring kept breaking. This can only be seen on the inside once the ring breaks (like tree rings). Perhaps for a loose diamond they'd be ok but I wouldn't recommend them for anything else. read more

I had such a lovely experience getting my engagement ring at K&W. My finance and I had been recommended to go here for our ring by a family member and I am so delighted that we did. I didn't know a lot about diamonds before getting the ring, but I did know exactly what style I was looking for. Maria was so helpful and gave me a tutorial on diamonds explaining cut and clarity etc. She spent as much time as I needed selecting an actual diamond in our price range and then we discussed settings. I had always wanted a vintage setting and they custom made a beautiful vintage style setting for me that I had given them a photograph of. We were not living in NYC at the time and Maria kept me updated by email about the progress of my ring and sent me photos. I was so pleased when I received my ring, it was exactly to the specification that I wanted and even nicer than I imagined. At no point in the store did we feel pressured or that we were being ripped off.
