They're the oldest, largest and most effective youth mentoring organization in the United States…read more Research has shown that positive relationships between "Littles" and their "Bigs" have a direct and measurable impact on children's lives. They are more confident in school, better able to get along with their families and peers, and less likely to begin using alcohol and drugs. One of the reasons this program works so well is the dedication of the matchmakers. Their extensive interview and screening process ensures the best matches possible, which are based on similar backgrounds, interests and hobbies. What I've discovered during my time as a Big is that I get as much out of our relationship as my Little. He's an awesome kid that just needs a male role model in his life, and I am proud to be the one to be able to provide it. We've bowled, gone to the Arizona Science Center, the planetarium, watched movies, sometimes we just hang out and play video games. The commitment they ask for is just a few hours two to four times a month, for a minimum of 6 months. Of course the longer the better - many matches remain friends for life. Ok, now I'm going to wrap up by quoting Whitney Houston in a Yelp review (which a fellow Yelper bet me a Cornish Pasty I'd never be able to find a justifiable reason for doing so)... "I believe the children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way. Show them all the beauty they possess inside." Ha! I'll take that Eggplant Parmesan Pasty now, thanks.

I guess that the organization overall is good, but wonder why one of the most needy populations in…read moreall of our communities is dismissed by this organization. I am referring to kids who are in foster or kin placements through CPS. I know we have tried multiple times to get children hooked up with a big brother or sister only to be told that CPS kids are too transient with their case managers and placements so they wont work with them. Who cares if the case manager changes, if the kid is in a placement that wants to have them stay there for years or even adopt them. Case mangers and social workers at schools and hospitals change but they will set those kids up with Bigs. I don't understand why this company wont work with Arizona CPS kids. Kids who have been removed from their parents are more at need of a positive mentor than any other population, yet are pushed aside by VBB-BS. And when you ask for a reason why all you get is the "they are transient" story. And I guess the kid with the single parent who cant keep a job is stable? They appear to me to be an example of "get the good PR", and forget the rest.

Also involved with Generation United, we spent time with underprivileged children during the free arts day at the museum. There were three highly organized activities with the groups split up into about 8-10 kids. The activities were kids yoga, and two where the children created their own art. The organizers did a great job explaining what the volunteer's boundaries should be and how we could maximize our time with the children. My group were 4-year olds and we were each assigned one child. Being that I have an almost 4 year old, it felt natural to play with my buddy but it was so difficult when we had to say good bye. These kids need so much and you just want to do more. Luckily, they have organizations like Free Arts to bring some fun and creativity into their lives.

I had three kids go through Bright horizons and loved every minute of it. The location downtown and…read morethe staff was amazing. Warning to everyone that I've recommended this place to, they have new leadership that is terrible. Teachers are leaving and enrollment is down. You used to walk in to a joyful with parents congregating in the lobby to plan play dates and laughter throughout the building. Staff have been there for sometimes decades and turnover was low. It's why I selected the location. Now the lobby is filled with cold and difference. Individuals barely looking up from their computers except for one person, Jennifer, who was he a prior to the transition and is a light and what has become a difficult place to leave my kids. Leadership doesn't even recognize children by name and at one point stated they are not the ones that pay the tuition. Previous leadership (and I saw three different teams) that had gone through knew every child's name, their preferences, and their personalities. They are actively involved in the classrooms and day-to-day operations. Now there is a corporate front. Leadership is completely disconnected. Within weeks of of the transition the entire culture has shifted and I have two kiddos that no longer want to go to school. Some of their friends have left to go to other institutions and some of their most favored teachers have put notice. It is absolutely devastating. I have so long recommended this place as the ultimate example of a phenomenal daycare and now I am weighing the options for where we're going to go next. It greatly saddens me the post this because we have amazing memories. A couple of months in, it appears this is not a transitional difficulty but a permanent culture that's being instilled. It is your children the most important decision you can make is who is watching them when you're not with them and I would not recommend this facility.

I cried a LOT when I first dropped him off, I was so nervous even though I had done my research. However, my bubs always came home happy and clean with a fresh diaper. They have a policy of changing him if he spits up, so he's never in a soiled onesie. His teachers love him and he loves them. He's always squirming to get out of his carseat when we arrive and straining to get into the building. I was very surprised by these other Yelp reviews, and would urge you to take them with a grain of salt. Part of the reason we chose Sunrise is because it came very highly recommended within my neighborhood. Since we started at Sunrise, my child is babbling more, trying to stand up, improving motor skills, and learning to crawl. We are very happy and I'd urge you to talk to parents whose kiddos actually attend the school. Shout out to Miss Kayla, Miss Rhonda, Miss Haily, and Miss Melissa!

Our first day was November 24th. The day before the…read moreincident we picked our son up and he barely had a voice. So on December 3 at drop off, I asked the teacher Kristen King if he had been crying a lot the day before. She stated "No, I don't think he had been crying a lot." When it didn't make sense for her, not to know if she was the only teacher in the classroom that day. I asked her one more time to confirm her answer and she said again that "She didn't think he cried too much just when he needed a bottle or was tired." So I let it go and I left. As the day goes on, I get a few updates on the app that they promise to update thoroughly but they aren't logging. What type of milk was consumed or how many ounces. They're claiming that he did nap but they didn't log it but to me it looks like he was up for four hours when we arrived to pick him up at 4:45 pm. When we go to pick him up my husband noticed a large scratch on his head. He's gonna ask the teacher that was in there at the moment named Traci, What happened to our son's head? She then replied "I don't know no one hurt him. He must have come in with that." My husband then stated no he did not come in with that. Please note they uploaded a photo on the app that I will attach at 1:55 PM and the scratch was not there. The teacher only stated that she did not know what happened to him. Then, when we got back home, I noticed my son's voice was completely gone which leads me To believe that they let him cry even more on end. His eyes were super puffy as if he had been crying all day long. Other side notes: His last bottle logged was at nearly FOUR hours after he has eaten. He eats every 2 hours. I didn't end up speaking to the director who continuously put me on hold to go talk with the teacher herself, instead of letting me talk with the teacher myself. She was suggesting that there may be something sharp in the carpet, which I then stated that that could be a possibility, especially since Kristen King does not make Parents put on the shoe booties at drop off. She says it's fine. Come on in when my infant is crawling around on the floor and putting his face on the ground. The director inspected the carpet and vacuumed and said nothing came up in the carpet. She stated that they would do better about posting on the app. She still has no answers as to what happened to my son.
