The only "catch" was that the drawing was to take place on Saturday March 10th at the Dixie RV Superstore in Hammond, Louisiana and that the winner needed to be present to win. Fast forward to Saturday March 10th and we were on the road to Hammond to watch the trailer giveaway. There were approximately 150-200 people on-site for the drawing so winning was a conceivable possibility. The first 3 names called were no-shows (sucks to be them), but low and behold the 4th name called was NOT me. Oh well, it was time to look around. As per Dixie's website, "Dixie RV SuperStores is a proud member of the Priority RV Network, a REDEX organization. Customers who purchase an RV through Dixie RV instantly become an exclusive member of the Priority RV Network. Our customers gain the advantage of priority service at over 100 dealerships all part of the Priority RV Service Program. Dixie RV Superstore is family owned and operates 4 stores in the Gulf South. Upon walking through the front door, I was impressed with the customer reception area and cannot imagine another RV dealer having a nicer venue (more to follow). As today was an "open house", there were dozens of sales personnel, but they were there to assist only upon being approached. Therefore, if you were there just to browse, like we were, you could do so with no pressure at all from anyone. Furthermore, there were hundreds of RVs and travel trailers that were unlocked and open to the public. For those that were on-site to buy, there was a large indoor sales floor with many models to choose from. Furthermore, there is golf cart transportation offered to see the humongous selection on the outdoor lot. If and when you do make a purchase, a delivery coordinator conducts a full walk through with you upon delivery. Furthermore, you can stay overnight at one of many private site hook-ups for additional familiarization. A travel trailer is definitely in our future; however, we are a few years out from making our purchase. In the meantime, we will continue to attend the local RV open houses and RV shows. Based on my first trip to Dixie, they will definitely get a return visit.

There is plenty of parking in their private lot both for vehicles and those towing anything. Inside the front door is not a sales area but you step directly into the parts and supplies store. They have pretty much everything you could think of and anything you could possibly need. It was well stocked and much more inventory and stock than my store back home that tends to be out stock on certain essential things. Not so here; the shelves and racks were full. I was able to pickup everything on my list and then some. I've always wanted an extra 30 amp power cord since one time I couldn't get close enough in an older state park. Steve's had a 25 ft cord that suited me fine. It was ten dollars more than ordering it online but there would be added shipping charges so I'm a happy camper. I'm bookmarking this place for next time because my daughter plans on moving back to her home state and I plan to visit yearly.

Many of them sound very reasonable over the phone, but when talks continued and details are revealed the information that started out was slightly deceptive. I didn't expect anything different from Miller's RV, but the salesman Trey sounded very honest and accommodating, so discussions continued. Several dealers had the unit I wanted, a Thor Scope 18ZS but there were always "add on's" and surprise fees as I got closer to a deal. With Miller's RV the discussion never changed. What they listed was what you got. That settled it for me. I traveled 1200 miles to make the deal. Being so far from home, I was a little nervous as I had committed myself and was at their mercy. When I got to Miller's the experience could not have gone better. The unit was clean, prepped and ready and their shop guy Pete was down to earth and explained every detail about the unit systems and maintenance etc. He was a wealth of knowledge. Best of all, during this whole process there were zero surprises! They went out of their way to make things easy and pleasant. They even surprised me with a $100 store credit after all was done so I could have supplies and anything I needed for my ride home. Miller's RV is a class operation.

The purchase process was not that bad, as far as vehicle purchases go. The salesman, whose name escapes me, was pretty knowledgeable and friendly, and the finance manager, whose name also escapes me, was also nice to deal with. The entire process didn't take an inordinate amount of time and I get the benefit of getting to go glamping, aka glamorous camping, with all comforts of home. They are conveniently located on Airline Drive, just west of David Drive and have a decent selection of units on-site.
