Busy office but reasonable wait and everyone was so helpful in explaining possible wait time and what to expect next. Didn't feel like the typical medical visit in that you feel like everyone is a friend and treated you like one. Dr Carey was super knowledgeable and explain things in a way that made sense which helped me retained the info. He did all sorts of assessment to make sure my eyes were alright. It's not my first visit to see an ophthalmologist but definitely the most pleasant one. Would highly recommend this office!

I had a torn eyelid, a cut tear duct, and a bad laceration on my upper cheek. The previous…read morespecialist didn't notice that my tear duct was cut through, despite my being sent to him for that explicit reason. The previous specialist also used such a thick gauge of stitches, that they began to immediately abraise my cornea after he initially stitched up my eyelid. I count myself extremely lucky that we happened upon Dr. Carey, as he was coincidentally in such close proximity. Dr. Carey's wonderful front desk got me scheduled less than 24 hours after our initial phone inquiry (72 hrs after injury). Within 5 minutes of my visit, Carey informed me that my tear duct had in fact been cut through, "I put the instrument in there and I can see it poking out." Dr. Carey got me scheduled for emergency surgery in the Univ Wash operating room that very same night. 8 hours later, after a one-hour surgery under full anesthesia, Dr. Carey restitched my eyelid with much finer permanent stitches (rather than the thicker dissolvable garbage from previous specialist). Now I could actually get relief from the non-stop scratching on my cornea. Dr. Carey stitched up my badly cut cheek like a master craftsman. He used tiny stitches and expertly line up both sides of laceration. It is now 5 months later and the injury is virtually invisible. And lastly, Dr. Carey ran a 3 inch plastic tube through my tear duct, stitching it in place, to preserve the opening of the canal for 12 months while it heals. In summary, I got excellent emergency surgery from an elite technician 36 hours after my initial phone call. Dr. Carey is in a whole different league regarding his skill set and execution. I cannot recommend him strongly enough.

Plus, add in it's your eyelid which made me even more nervous. Thankfully I was in the best hands possible. Dr. Carey was so kind, calming, and wonderful throughout this whole process of getting this removed. His staff made everything seamless with scheduling, and answered any questions I had and were so kind when they could probably sense my panic at times about things. I'm almost 2 weeks out from him removing the mole and you can barely tell I had it taken off. I am eternally grateful for his care he has given me and feel so fortunate to have found him. After I thanked her, she abruptly hung up on me without any acknowledgment or goodbye. I understand that medical costs can vary, but basic courtesy should not. This interaction left me uncomfortable moving forward with the practice.

When I called to make the appointment, the woman at the front desk said I would first need to speak with a "triage" before she could make an appointment. She said the traige would call me back soon to further discuss my bleed & possibly make an appointment? Well, this day has passed, and I've heard nothing from the triage? Unfortunately, I've had a few quite negative exchanges in the past with the triages, when calling to schedule an appointment if I've had an eye bleed. On one occasion, the triage curtly stated, "didn't I know the bleed will clear in a few weeks"! Which is often incorrect because I've had bleeds that have not cleared for 21/2 months! What's more, you just don't speak to a long time patient like that, particularly given the recurrence of my retinal bleeds. The triages need proper training in dealing with patients thoughtfully & empathetically. I certainly hope this issue will be addressed for the benefit of all patients current & future at the Retina Center Northwest in Silverdale?

Before scheduling our first visit in December 2024, we carefully researched local cataract surgery options and Dr. Niraj Patel. We selected Dr. Patel based on his experience.The process to secure that initial appointment took two months. We believe Dr. Patel is a skilled ophthalmologist and surgeon. That said, we both felt pressured at the first exam with him to opt for the Light Adjustable Lens (LAL), a $4,500 per-eye ($9,000 total) upgrade not covered by Medicare or our secondary insurance. The clinic prominently promotes this option, which likely benefits its revenue. Despite our optometrists advising against a replacement lens other than "standard," we briefly considered it due to the strong recommendation. This raises concerns about whether other elderly patients might feel similarly pressured. Anyone considering this clinic should thoroughly research the LAL option and discuss it with their optometrist or primary care provider before making a decision. After our exams, we met with the "scheduling coordinator" for Dr. Patel's surgeries. We were informed that due to a backlog, surgery dates would be significantly delayed. We accepted this reality and continued the process. However, communication with the clinic was frustratingly difficult. Getting answers required showing up in person and hoping someone could assist us. Scheduling changes were nearly impossible without being pushed months further down the waitlist. Even urgent non-elective medical issues did not seem to influence scheduling flexibility. Patients should be aware of these limitations before committing to the required exam process. This is a business in search of large patient volume and the bottom line. After nearly three months of waiting, we have canceled all future appointments with PNEA. It is too frustrating. Based on our experience, we would not recommend this clinic. Patients should carefully research not only the procedure itself but other local Opthalmology clinic choices, the clinic's billing practices, scheduling and communication policies. We hope others have a smoother experience than we did.

Very attentive, informative, and professional…read more After reading through Google and Yelp reviews I decided to set up a consolation to see if I was a good candidate for LASIK. When I checked in the staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, and very patient with the plethora of questions I asked. After being deemed a good candidate I scheduled my surgery for a few days later. On the day of surgery I was able to meet with Dr. Leavitt one more time to go over any final questions or concerns. The procedure took less than 10 minutes, and Dr. Leavitt talked me through each stage so I knew exactly what was happening. The next day I came in for my post op exam, and everything was perfect with my vision at 20/20. I had opted to correct my astigmatism, so i have the Intraocular lens inserted vs. the regular lens. I was blown away with the fact that the new after care process does not include ANY DROPS! It is DROPLESS....this is a huge deal. Everyone I know who has had cataract surgery kept telling me the worse part is remembering to constantly take the drops on a regular basis several times - day and night. If you didn't, you could have big issues with the healing process. I have not had to use any drops other than when I need to "wash out" my eyes. I wear an eye guard when I go to bed, but that's it! I couldn't be happier with the experience. Kudos to the NW Vision Insitute team!

After narrowing down the list, I learned that he was the first in our area to offer this. I read his bio and was impressed--he was chief of surgery in the military, he has trained other surgeons, but especially because he goes on humanitarian missions twice a year to provide cataract surgery to restore vision to the underprivileged in other countries, and he also does the same in the US. I mean, in his time off, what does he do...he performs even more surgery! He is a good man. I was very fortunate to find Dr. Dahlhauser. He quickly cleared up areas of concern a previous surgeon had raised by pulling up on-screen scan results, and I was impressed with his modern equipment and assessment which resonated with me, and I felt very confident. I now have perfect 20/20 and J1 near vision, for which I am very grateful. He was very kind to me, and reassured me before surgery when I was feeling anxious, and did the same at surgical follow up.
