My husband and I recently purchased a foreclosed fixer home in Granite Bay with over 30 mature trees on the property including a handful of dead trees: 6 - 40'+ oaks and 2 - 80' redwoods as well as a live oak that had damaged the house and the roof. After consulting three licensed arborists, receiving the same removal recommendations, we chose Kent Arborist Services to do the job. Mr. David Powell provided a written estimate detailing the work to be completed along with pricing for each of the 4 phases of the job which included additional tree trimming work. The job was more comprehensive yet was priced lower than the two other bids received. The job took 2 full days and commenced on Monday, 12/16/13 with Mr. Powell and the crew supervisor onsite at 7:30am. I walked the site with Mr. Powell and the supervisor and went over the 4 Phases provided on my written estimate The crew showed up at 7:40am prepping their tools and work began promptly at 8:00am and ended at dusk as previously agreed upon. The entire crew was outfitted in safety equipment, used proper tools and equipment, and was efficient and hard working. We chose to keep all of the oak which was cut into reasonably sized pieces and stacked in predetermined areas. The redwood and tree trimmings were chipped and removed offsite. Stump grinding was state of the art using a remote controlled machine. I was impressed with its precision and efficiency. My yard was left free of tree debris and the roof and gutters were cleaned out as well. The job was completed on time and for the price agreed upon. The work done by this company for us was outstanding. We had a tree the size of a huge oak that was dying right next to our house and had to come down. They even cut up the large branches for us to fit our wood burning stove. Everything was cleaned up as it was before. We were told, in advance, of items we would need to move to protect, as well as covering sprinklers, removing furniture etc. to avoid damage. I noticed in other reviews, people didn't take the recommended precautions and they wonder why there is damage?? Really?? Shame on you. read more

I contacted Kent Tree service to come out and give me price to take out to large trees. David came out and and we set up a date for the removal. He said he would contact me to confirm I didn't hear from him so I called him got a voice mail but he did call me back to confirm Friday morning at 8:00am. I took off work so I could be here. No one showed up I called several times got his voice mail and no return call. There custermor service is awful. All it would have taken is a phone call letting me know they are running behind which I understand as of right now I don't even if the are going to show up at all. I found them when I saw the big truck they had parked at Douglas and Sunrise with the sign "30% Off Today Only" which brought a smile to my face. It made me think of the bar advertising "free beer tomorrow." It prompted me to call them. I spoke to the owner John Kent and he said they would come over to give me a quote. His chief estimator arrived the next day and walked the job explaining the best approach to accomplish my goal without breaking my piggybank. We scheduled the appointment. I was pleased to see how thorough the paperwork was; it verified they were licensed and had the required workers comp insurance. The last thing I wanted to worry about was having some worker fall out of our tree, on our property and sue us. The day of the appointment they showed up on time brought all of the necessary equipment and were able to complete the job in just under 6 hours. They put all of the tree branches and clippings through a mulch maker and left the yard cleaner than when they arrived. John Kent is great. We had trouble with two trees during a very stormy time. He was out with a crew, it the pouring rain, taking down the felled trees within one or two days. He mentioned having a lot of calls at the time (you could see felled trees everywhere.), yet he helped us out quickly. He's kind and honest, as well. read more

Kent Arborist gave us a great quote & once we called to accept, they were very good at communication, even calling on Friday to confirm the details of the job and that they would be there at 8am the following Tuesday. Crew was on time and began immediately, clearly were very experienced, especially the climber, knew what they were doing, and finished removing our 75-foot redwood tree in just 3 hours, start to finish! The tree was in the back part of our fully landscaped backyard near a neighbor's fence, a retaining wall & our pool! They were nice, worked hard, and cleaned up very well, removing an enormous amount of huge branches, dead leaves, etc., that they had to manually drag over our gravel pathways, around plants & a 3-tier fountain. While the rock & bark in our backyard ended up being dragged & mixed together, overall it was inevitable given the HUGE branches that had to be gotten out from deep in the back. We recently had a tree removed by Kent Arborist Services. The arborists visit was very professional, with a quote provided on the spot for the tree removal. Things went downhill quickly from there. On the day the tree was to be removed we received a call that their foreman would not be at work and they would have to reschedule. After waiting a few days for a call back, we finally contacted them and again waited a few more days before the tree was finally removed. We then needed to have the stump ground down, which was to be done a few days after the tree removal. Two days after the tree was removed we had a crew show up to remove the tree, not to grind the stump. After a few back and forth conversations with them, we finally got the stump ground down. It seems there is a big lack of internal communication. In the end, we got what we wanted, which was to have the tree removed, and stump ground down. It was just a big hassle to get everything completed in a timely fashion. read more

In response the the comment below from Kent that was two and a half years in the making: The trees we contracted Kent to remove were along the fence line on the north side of our back yard. The seeded lawn that was damaged was on the fence line along the south side of the back yard. There is quite a distance between the two areas. The seeded lawn damage was a result of the work done on our neighbor's yard to the south when Kent's guys entered our yard without our permission.The seeded lawn was never a factor in the tree removal on our property. So here's the deal...Kent has top notch pro equipment (his chipper/shedder could be featured in Fargo), a skilled and very polite crew to operate his equipment (Kent's stump grinder was operated with the precision of a surgical instrument), they all worked as a team (all clean-cut guys and well presented), quick, yet safe at what they do, and left my property all cleaned up - even the street, all without breaking the bank. John, the owner, took an active roll and showed pride in the service he and his crew provided. Would I use them again? Heck yeah, and I have standards that few, if any can meet. literally my 80 foot copper beech started to fail on a friday morning before one of our nasty weekend storms we had and i called John and he came out from another job before sunset to review the project which most surely would have fallen on my neighbors roof. Radically dangerous job, near 40 mile an hour wind, and heavy rain but he was their white knuckling it with me every step of the way. We had a very large tree removed during the crazy windstorm right before the holidays by Kent Arborists. It was a very dangerous task and when the weather calmed down little, they took immediate action to remove. The tree was in a very awkward tight area between houses. Removing it required a crane and a full crew to saw it down carefully without affecting my neighbors house nor our house while keeping everyone and everything safe in the process. I appreciated John working with me throughout the entire process and making sure every aspect was taking into consideration and executed successfully. Okay a little background, so I bought my first house not too long ago, super happy with my price and blah blah happiness all around... until I actually tried to turn my house into a home... Over the past couple of years I have literally had about 20 different people/companies look at my property and give me quotes for trees to be cut. All sorts of people, I even ventured into the craigslist domain (***CAUTION from craigslist for the safety of your home, neighbors and family. CList is good for a lot, but not at the price of your home so be careful with tree removal!). I've had people go so far as to give me a quote, climb my 40 year old tree, and walk away from the job. I've had people that look like they were on drugs come give me quotes. I've been stood up literally, they probably drove by my house and kept going. I've had people tell me they wanted me to pay them almost quarter of my houses total cost for the work... yes let that sink in (25%!!!!). Now I won't lie about the situation, I had a large maple and 2 palms in the backyard... each tree at minimum 60-70 feet high. So the access wasn't the greatest and there wasn't a whole lot of backyard to work with (track homes have tiny backyards). ...Then I met Mr. Kent and his team...finally someone shown a light on my cloudy little house. I left a message and he called me back that night, he was always courteous about working around my schedule and open to talk whenever I was willing and ready. He was open to texting pictures so we didn't waste each others time. He was honest with his opinion even when I would cringe and you could definitely tell through the conversations he has been doing this for most of his life. He is a professional and thinks about the all the things us non arborists think about. This is a real american right here, he has his own business and he keeps himself super busy to provide for his workers and his family. He was interested in my entire project and how the tree removal would affect what I was doing and how I should take different things into account. He was upfront about costs and there were no hidden fees, they even had a short terms and conditions to ease my mind. I don't want to draw this review out too much but he actually honored a quote MUCH MUCH MUCH past the typical 30 day guarantee, the job was a big one and he knew I needed to save up. Not saying he will offer you the same help but to me that says a lot about him and his company, they were honestly trying to help me, their customer. That type of commitment to not always reaching the maximum profits but helping someone else out... I've lived in the US all my life and have seen that very few times. This has literally been my largest house expense to date and I couldn't be more happy! We actually did the math on the loads and Kents crew literally removed 100,000 pounds (50 tons!!!!) from my tiny backyard. Like think about it, these guys literally saved a home from years of those poor trees being neglect and no maintenance from the previous owners. Now I'm super excited to get things going and beautify front and back yards and help my neighborhood look better. It only takes 1 house for everyone to get an extra kick in their step and I've had all my neighbors compliment me. Trees are a huge expense and really need to have lots of consideration before one commits. Sadly this Yelp review still can't describe how grateful I am to the time and money Kent and his team has saved me. If this hasn't convinced you then all I can wish you is goodluck and safe wishes! Seriously if anything just give them a call and get a quote while your talking to other companies (so you dont have to call 20 like i did...). My mom always said at least get 3 quotes. Please be careful and shop around for safe arborist but also be careful about going with the guys that want to start bringing in cranes and helicopters for cutting some trees. Great service....they came to our home in Folsom with a crew and equipment to professionally remove a tree from our front yard right next to a fence with no damage to the fence. From that removal they tackled a huge tree growing in a very difficult gully area behind our house without any damage to our neighbors fence. With the clean up completed, they were on there way. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! Worst place you could have any work done. We had them come out to bid trimming back a few trees and grinding a few stumps. We paid them a couple thousand dollars. They didn't cut back nor grind 1/2 the stumps we originally agreed upon. We literally had to follow them around reminding them what we agreed on. The lady (his wife?) would start a stump we reminded her of and then move on to another area then say "oh I must have forgotten" then again and again. Shady! Maybe I should have gotten a clue when the guy came out wearing $250 True religion jeans to cut trees? Owner acts like he is better than you and will tell you whatever you want to hear. He is a complete liar!! He is excellent at the shell game!! You will see their trucks all over. They are so desperate for business they park them all over town to get new customers. Surely no one would ever use them twice. My advice: whomever you use, get a detailed contract and tag each item you want cut with spray paint in advance. read more

The workmen from Kent showed up on time, but the job went downhill from there! They destroyed several shrubs and sprinkler lines with their stump grinder. I only give one star because I can't leave a review without checking a star. I would leave no stars. I called Kent on behalf of my 90 year old neighbor who's tree fell during the storms in Feb. The tree took out our fence and was resting on our shed. We got several estimates before he came out. He told the neighbor her insurance would pay. I explained I had already talked to the insurance company and they would not cover the tree removal. He insisted they would and told her not to pay anyone to remove it. He called me two days later to say he talked to her daughter (she passed away in the 70's) and I explained it was I he had talked to. He said he called her insurance and would be there that day to remove the tree. His worker came and did an excellent job removing and cleaning up. I called her insurance and was informed again they would not pay. By this time the tree was done. He of course did nothing but try and strong arm the 90 year old to pay. She said no since they left a big stump. He then sued her. She's 90. All she wanted was the stump removed and she would pay. After he continued to harass her she paid. Now she has a hugh stump left in her yard. His workers were great he's not. Never doing business with him again. read more

After giving Kent two large tree removal jobs in one year (one for myself and one for my family) I called for an estimate on a new job. Someone got back and said they would be here in 10mins. An hour later he simply said he couldn't make it. I had to ask "When will you make it?". 12 hours later someone said that they would contact me the next day at 1pm. 3 hours later I'm writing this review and getting someone else who is more considerate of past customers. John came out in the morning and gave us a price to trim our ornamental pear trees and take down four large redwoods that were competing for water and sunlight with other redwoods. By 430 pm they were done with the job including cleanup! They really have the right equipment for the job. I've never seen a chipper that could make quick work of a 12" redwood trunk but they've got one. It was refreshing to see a crew of professional and polite tree trimmers. I came home early from work to find their dump/crane truck in my driveway. What an impressive setup. They removed the tree quickly and safely and left no mess behind. I work for another tree company and the owner to Kent's tree service came and took a picture of my bosses truck because we had a lower bid. The following day he came back and took a picture of me while i was gassing up my saw and i told him not to take pictures of me and he flipped me off so i took pictures off him and then he pulled up next to me and was very disrespectful and cussing at me all be cause we got a lower bid on the job. Then I called the company to see if the person who came out and took pictures with the owner and he was the owner and he answered the phone , he continued to curse at me and then hung up the phone. Very Unprofessional. Someone like that should not be a business owner. If you want a company that treats your home and property like garbage please give him a call. We had a lot of dead oak branches in our front yard that were in danger of falling onto the street as well as dead wood in the sides and back yard. We got estimates for the work from 3 different companies, one of which was Kent Arborist Services. Mr. Kent was by far the most personable, professional and honest of the 3. His rates were the lowest, and they worked around OUR schedule, getting the job done very quickly and during the hours we asked them to work. We also had them take down a tree in the backyard next to our pool. I was very impressed with their clean up after the work was done. There were very few remaining small branches and they even cleaned out what they could from our pool. In summary, Kent was outstanding in their professionalism, honesty, communication, very reasonable prices, and attention to detail. Our trees look great and healthy now!
