We hired this company to move heavy furniture and items to our school. These men worked tirelessly on one of the hottest days bringing the items up and down several flights of stairs. I had the absolute worst experience with this company. Ken came to my apartment personally to give me an estimate. He took note of the location and listed items that needed to be moved. I was promised 4 men and a 6 hour job. The morning of the move, two men showed up claiming that the other guys called out due to the weather. They got his 16 year old nephew and his friend to come "replace" the other two movers that were unavailable. The teenagers tried, but were completely clueless. They were unable to disassemble any furniture, leaving most of the work to the main guys. Rather then asking what was going, they were just carrying stuff downstairs. There was a bunch of stuff that was moved that was supposed to stay in the apartment to either be trashed or donated. The boys carried all the boxes while the two main guys took cigarette breaks every 15 minutes. Once they arrived at the new location, it was my fault that there wasn't parking right in front of the house, and they had to park around the corner. (It actually worked out to an advantage as a lot of stuff had to go down the driveway anyway and the rest through the front.) The boys carried ALL the boxes into the garage (which is under the house in the back) ALL of the boxes were clearly labeled "kitchen" "bedroom" etc., but we're all left in the basement. When I asked if they were going to bring them up to the appropriate rooms they got annoyed. A lot of furniture was damaged (mostly scraped wooden edges). Some furniture was assembled improperly and when I asked they said no it's fine it's just because the floor is crooked (not the case, as they took it apart and then assembled it correctly after I made them). They also left other furniture unassembled. Included in the original estimate was my refrigerator, which they took, but claimed that they weren't allowed to take the shelves or drawers because they are tempered glass and may break. (Im pretty sure these are pieces of the fridge and should be included in transport) so I had to go back and pick them up myself. They left garbage and 32 empty rolls of tape all over the floors in the apartment. Which I had to go clean up the next day. They also left wads of tape all over the new house. They ripped my expensive mattress cover. 13.5 hours later, they charged me an extra $1000. They claimed that I had 175 boxes when the original estimate said 50-60 (there were extra boxes, maybe 85 total, definitely not 175, and also included items that werent even supposed to be moved.) I called the owner the next day and he didn't even want to listen to what I had to say. No apology, nothing. He said that I paid for 4 guys and I got 4 guys. I don't think the movers 16 year old nephew and his friend coming constitutes 4 movers like I was promised. When I mentioned the mess left behind, He said if the rolls of tape bothered me so much he would send someone to pick them up. This is awful customer service. These movers mistreated my disabled Aunt this month!!! The four movers surrounded my aunt and SUGGESTED $150 TIP for each of them. $600 TIP for: They broke her chair (I saw other things were damaged, too), put dozens of the labeled cartons in wrong rooms (they KNEW she is disabled and cannot move a single carton, nevermind DOZENS!), refused to put anything upstairs, left beer bottles around, commented about her disability and MASTECTOMY!!! Our move was not easy- moving into a co-op building with PITA management, and Ken and Karen made it a total breeze. The moving crew- we had Ricky and his guys- were total pros, and were very friendly. All was moved in a timely fashion, with extreme care taken for our property, all was attentively placed where we asked, it was great. Ughhh, moving! Who loves moving? Well, Ken's does! Got our quote which was fair and accurate for what we had. Movers showed up right on time and were so efficient, we said to them to take a coffee break! We still had things to pack up! Moving into our new place was seamless. Moved all the boxes in the right rooms, reconstructed some of our furniture perfectly and even had to carry the couch up 5 flights of stairs! Final quote was nearly a match to the original (we had to add some items along the way). They handled the payment promptly and we tipped them well. Job well done Ken's! read more

Ken's was my first time using a moving company. I moved from Astoria to Bayside and called them on a recommendation via a neighborhood Facebook group. Everyone I spoke with, from the highly spirited and *very on top of her game* woman in the office, to Ken (tremendously personable and puts you at ease), to the moving team was professional, highly capable, and respectful. The move cost waaaaaaay less than I had anticipated using a moving company would, too! Ken visited my home to put together the estimate, applied no pressure to get me to "buy," and answered questions I didn't even think to ask. The movers were lightning fast, fun to be around, and treated my property with care. I can't say enough good things about Ken's. The movers did everything fast. All my stuff was safe and they moved everything fine. I even got a Thank You card in the mail which was a nice touch. My complaints were: They were at least 45 minutes late, a phone call would have been nice telling me that they were held up by the previous job. The "main" mover guy needed to let me know that "most people tip us". This annoyed me to no end. It was something that needed not be said because I am neither an idiot or an asshole. Also it totally says in the contract, tips are not required but of course people tip, it is only natural. I felt that he wouldn't have said that to a man, but since I am a woman I felt it was a little bit on the intimadation side. I think maybe they might be a tad overpriced for certain services. If I need to move again I would probably look up quotes from other companies and compare instead of going straight back to Ken's. read more

I didn't even use this company because of how sketch it was just getting a estimate, oh wait a didn't even get a estimate. "Ken" asks for the addresses to and from with also a list of the things they will be moving, and also just regular moving information, flights, elevator, totally normal. I've lived in Manhattan for 5 years and have moved plenty, I know moving companies. After I submit all the information, I get an email back saying he can offer 3 movers with a truck for $120 a hour (high in my opinion) and also I could have just read that off your website, that's not a estimate, that's your service prices. So I email back, saying how long do u think it will take? then I get this b*llshit response about how they DO NOT GIVE ESTIMATES, because of so many variables, like weather, and parking, and traffic, and how long it's gonna take to do everything...... 1) what was the point in making me send u a list of everything, and my addresses if ur just gonna send me service prices 2) I only asked to wrapped three items, he acted like he couldn't estimate that? Like what? 3) I gave my addresses, so if u can't estimate driving time by using GOOGLE in 1 minute, you would see it less that 30 minutes and all highway, so it shows u did nothing with my addresses and sending u that information was pointless completely 4) I have never, ever had a moving company not give me a estimate, ever! EVER! That is a huge scam move. It's like going in blindly and then they can do whatever and charge you whatever for whatever "reasons" 5) moves cross country have estimates, but apparently moving from Harlem to Woodside cannot be predicted, there are too many variables? My husband and I used Ken's moving 18 years ago when we first moved into our apartment. They did such a great job that we decided to call them to help us relocate to another home while our apartment gets renovated. Carlo and Julian arrived to our apartment on time. They were very careful about how they stacked and carried things out of the apartment and into our new home. They had to move some very large pieces including a very heavy kings size headboard, mattress, and box spring through a very narrow staircase without breaking the chandelier or any of the many glass ornaments in our new temporary home. Each of the men introduced themselves to me which was simply so polite. They made me comfortable in the middle of chaos and just handled. everything!! Admittedly my move was very simple. I had one item ( free standing hand carved bar ) to be moved within Queens. The truck showed up pretty much on time. Movers were all very courteous and professional. they carefully wrapped the bar and placed it in the truck. it arrived the same way it was packed .. no damage whatsoever so I was very pleased with movers and the price. What puzzles me is reading a few negative reviews here. I'm sure that not everyone may have a positive experience but I'm confused at the customers that had a bad experience but then call them back a second time, have another bad experience and then write a bad review read more

Had the misfortune of a person from this company ringing my outer intercom bell today. Turns out he was ringing for the next door neighbor, but only found that after repeated rings required me to come downstairs 6 floors as he would not speak on intercom, then he tried to blame this on the super saying she rang the bell. On the mutual elevator ride up, this guy kept arguing with me, truly borderline harassment. I contacted the company via email (he had refused to give his name, but there was a Ken logo on his pullover), the apologized for the wrong bell (that the guy said he never rang.) As I read the reviews on here, though I am not a customer, I would not be based solely on this experience. A business should be aware the people it sends into the field are representative of the company. read more

AVOID! Ken's Moving moved some stuff for us years ago & it was OK, some furniture was scratched & such. On leaving, one guy told my wife that most people tip them & she told him to speak with me. When he repeated the tip hint I told him people don't tip me or my wife, both teachers. The movers looked like they had just left alcohol rehab. One of our kids was moving years later from here to another NYC neighborhood & I called Ken's Movers & spoke with Karen, a rude & abrupt person, but I let it pass. Karen said it was $100 dollars cash (so it's not reported to IRS!) on setting a move date, an amount deducted from the total cost, & tried to get me to agree to a day which I didn't. I called back later that week with some questions but another gal, also rude & abrupt, said Karen was busy. Later, I thought, why bother with them, it's not like they're doing me a favor. My contractor's guys do stuff on the side on weekends, so I hired them. Total cost, $400 dollars & no snippy women to deal with. All of my daughter's things were wrapped in thick blankets & there was no damage & no hints about tips. Also, at local thrift shops, like the Salvation Army, they have phone numbers of guys with vans who move stuff. I've used them too & they were fine.. read more

This is the second move I have used Ken's for. The first time I was extremely satisfied and recommended them to a friend who was also pleased with them. I used them again recently and was again, more than satisfied. They arrived in a timely fashion and moved quickly and efficiently so I would stay within the price frame quoted. No one bullied me or requested a tip as seen in previous reviews. I actually find this hard to believe. All three guys were professional and careful with all of my belongings. Ricky, who was the driver and in charge of paper work, was beyond pleasant and made this very stressful endeavor so much easier! Renee in the office, was also extremely helpful in easing my stress. Met with Ken on May 5th for an estimate & booked the move for 5/12. His estimate was the most reasonable. That, combined with the fact that the company has been a fixture in my area for some time, made the decision easier. The 3 fellows who were moving me arrived on time and went right to work. Hard-working, pleasant & didn't stop for 1 minute. When we arrived at the destination, they made a few choices for furniture placement that were all for the better. I had made many an error in measuring. Once they saw a piece could fit better somewhere they put it there, which was great. I've used Ken's for three moves over the years, with the last in January 2018. Each move went very well and this last one was exceptional. The four men worked so well as a team and moved my four rooms and about 60 or more boxes and bins with amazing speed, attention to detail and care with every piece of my furniture. When we got to my new place they helped place everything where I wanted it to go. The whole job took 5 hours which was an hour short of the estimate. I thought their prices were fair. My first dealings with Ken's Moving were positive. Ken came to our house, gave us a fair estimate, seemed fine to deal with. He preferred cash but I figured he was just "old school" and that its just part of the moving business. The day of the move things went well- guys showed up on time, were nice, got the work done quickly. The quote we got was accurate and very close to what we paid the day of the move. So overall, I was pleased. However, a week after moving I noticed that a brand new (expensive) kitchen item (still in its original packing) was missing. I received it as a gift and decided not to open it until after the move. I looked everywhere for it and then realized it is the perfect item to go "missing" because it could be re-sold or gifted. I called Ken, who of course, told me that the truck was checked after the move and that nothing was found. When I asked to be compensated, he said he can't offer anything and that he is sure I will find it somewhere. This item was obviously taken and I am beyond aggravated. They take advantage of woman, demand a Tip, change their quoted price, destroy your furniture , call you names if you accuse them of any wrong-doing and refuse to finish the job. I have used Ken's three times--and had been happy with them up until my most recent move. I had to keep most of my items in storage for several months, which I did through Ken's. However, when they moved all of my stuff into my new apartment, a big piece of furniture never arrived. When I called the office to follow-up and ask where my missing piece of furniture was, Ken instantly went on the defensive and started accusing me of not telling the guys it had to go into storage in the first place. They would not reimburse me for this CUSTOM piece of furniture because I had signed the receiving slip when the movers left. I feel like I was scammed and ripped off by their carelessness and reassurances--they are reasonable, until you complain, then iron gates get slammed in your face. I feel betrayed. read more

Had a horrible experience with Ken's, more so with management than with the movers themselves. My husband, baby and I were moving from our apartment and they sent two men and a small van. A van to move a family of three! Multiple trips had to be made. Job started at 8:15AM and wasn't done until after 5PM. My husband and I even helped move some things to make it go faster because our building doesn't allow any moving after 5. It was truly a terrible day. PLEASE DO NOT USE KEN'S!!! Despite Ken doing the estimate himself, the final price was $500 more than the estimate. Ken grossly underestimated the number of boxes we would have and then blamed us and LIED saying that we told him to lower the number if boxes on the estimate. That is absolutely ridiculous because we were VERY clear that we had a ton of stuff and had no idea how many boxes we would have. We would NEVER have told him to lower the number of boxes on the estimate! If you do hire them, be aware that if Ken writes "As per customer" on the estimate, he will later use that to insist that YOU said that number of boxes, even though you didn't. He seems to do that to cover himself for when he messes up so he can blame the customer. Worse than that, a large bag full of electronics and tools that we moved ourselves to avoid damage went "mysteriously missing" from our basement during the move. Lastly, the workers did work hard but they were extremely messy, leaving garbage from the food and drinks we provided all over our garage, our driveway and our neighbor's driveway. It was like cleaning up after a frat party after they left. I would NEVER hire them again!!!!!! read more

I've had others recommend Ken's, so they apparently do a fine job sometimes, but I would strongly recommend against using Ken's if you are moving in Manhattan. Their "over the phone" estimate proved to be HALF of what they charged me. They sent two men and a van(!) to move a family of three instead of a truck, which of course necessitated two trips, which of course increased the cost substantially. And my bookcase, which was one of only two large items moved, was scratched up terribly. If you do use Ken's, make sure they give an in-person review of your items, and make sure you find out in advance how many men (and what vehicle) will be used. The team is actually pretty nice and relatively easy with which to engage, but my experience left a lot to be desired. read more

I had Ken move from a home in bklyn ny to another home in bklyn close by.The men were all real nice and did a very good job loading and wrapping the furniture.I had no complaints.They arrived on time,did a lot of heavy lifting.just sorry I didn't have enough $$ to give them for a bigger tip.
