In less than 30 minutes, Dr. V listened to me, examined my foot, diagnosed the problem and fixed it. He carefully cut out some deep and very hard callouses (caused by a lot of hiking in fairly rough terrain), with the immediate result that I could walk without pain or a limp for the first time in weeks. Just as importantly, he gave me a lot of practical advice about various things I can do to prevent a recurrence. And he assured me that, if there is a recurrence, I can readily schedule another appointment with him to fix it again. I only wish all medical problems were this fixable, and all medical practitioners were this competent. Hooray for Dr. V!!! I enthusiastically recommend him for treatment of your foot problems.

My dad is 82 and needs his toenails clipped regularly. He missed his last appt so today his nails were super long. Dr. Huey is incredibly patient and gentle and isn't (visibly) grossed out by my dad's feet and fungus issues. The staff here are also very friendly. I love Dr. Huey's shoe collection. It's much bigger here than the Berkeley office. He says patients just keep giving him shoes. There's some beautiful glass ones, enamel, a recent one from Thailand. And he's not a shoe snob either, there's plastic wind up shoes in the collection too.

Dr. Teplin saved my father's life a few years ago. You wouldn't normally think a podiatrist would…read morebe involved in a life or death surgeon, but when you're a podiatric surgeon who specializes in caring for diabetic patients...well, stuff happens. My dad had some ulcers on his feet that just would not heal, and his other doctor was useless. Since diabetics frequently suffer from neuropathy, most of the time my dad didn't even know that something was wrong with his feet. By the time his current podiatrist admitted that he couldn't do anymore and referred him to the John Muir Wound Care Center, he was in very bad shape. We went to see Dr. Teplin, who was aghast at his condition. He did a number of tests, including a Doppler test, and called for an ambulance to take him to John Muir's ER. My dad's infection was so bad that he had to be on IV antibiotics for an entire week before his surgery. He almost had to have his leg amputated. Dr. Teplin performed the surgery (just a toe or two), and was just wonderful to my dad and our whole family during the process. He was open, honest and always available. Thank you Dr. T!

Just one visit! She is a very clear communicator who comes up with practical, non-invasive solutions whenever possible. And the staff at her office have been great too.

And if you call them concerning your referral they won't have any information if they don't take your insurance. For the simple fact that all traces of that referral isn't saved. Bottom line, have all of your health insurance information in hand to see if you can make an appointment regardless weather they received a referral or not. Simply don't bother asking about your referral nor take their word that they'll call you once they receive your referral. Because that call will never happen if they don't take your insurance. Heard of customer service much?!?!?! First impressions starts with the first initial call. And at that they have completely failed.

Post procedure I had a very serious infection which lasted for several weeks which was extremely painful. Eventually I had to visit the Emergency Care Unit. They confirmed a deep infection and a possible pocket of pus under the remaining nail. They took x-rays because they suspected that the infection had gone into the bone. In the end I got 10 days of antibiotics. I was out of pocket for these treatments. There are other factors such as I did not go to the follow up appointment, this was because there was no infection at that point in time. I could not get an appointment back at Dr. Patel's office because of their restrictive office hours. In fact it was Dr. Patel's office who suggested I go to Emergency Care. I asked that Dr. Patel not bill me for the outstanding payment of $80 because I had the infection and I am out of pocket for the Emergency Care visit. Her response was "no". as a FYI....I found out afterwards that a friend of mine went to Dr. Patel as well and received poor treatment/ service. He ended up at the hospital as well with an open sore that would not heal.
