Silversmith Orthodontics - Dr. Silversmith, our orthodontist

    Silversmith Orthodontics

As with most health care providers I see, I sought out Dr. Ian Silversmith based on a referral…read more He came highly recommended by our son's trusted pediatrician, Dr. Howard Silversmith - who also happens to be his brother. The office staff at the pediatrician's office also gave their seal of approval - and they don't hold back any punches. Our dentist let us know that our son would need some orthodontic work to correct some bite and alignment issues. We had already done the homework on who we wanted to use, so we gave Silversmith Orthodontics a call to set up a consultation. Kris, the office manager, made our appointment, took care of all the record transfers and worked with our insurance companies (both of them) to get the pre-authorization needed to off set the cost of treatment. She was prompt, professional and friendly. As for Dr. Ian Silversmith? He is truly great at what he does. During the consultation he took his time evaluating my son's challenges and thoroughly explained the treatment plan. What I really like the most is that he worked with my son and answered HIS questions. We decided to move forward with treatment and have been extremely pleased so far. He always runs on time and his office is spotless. When Dr. Silversmith is doing procedures that are uncomfortable for my son, he is always very kind and encouraging. Orthodontia work can be uncomfortable. He always gives my son a realistic expectation of what's coming up next - how long it should be bothersome and what to do to make things more comfortable. After every visit, Dr. Silversmith tells my son that he is very proud of him for toughing it out. I mean, I'm proud of my son for being brave, but pretty cool that his doctor is, too.

Over the years, I have taken my children to other dentist for consults regarding braces and I, like many, have gone to dental professionals throughout the decades. Ian is the best of the best. I have recommended him to my family and friends. Just recently he came in after hours to make a minor adjustment to my daughter's braces so she would be more comfortable. Truly a compassionate and competent professional. He has my highest recommendation!

My son got his braces put on and a pallet expander. They explained how to crank his expander nightly and they have done a great job with helping teach him how to really clean his braces. He loves coming here they have the kid area he can play in until he's called back (which is never a long wait). The office is small, but very nicely decorated. They answer any and all questions or concerns you may have without hesitation. They accept credit cards, most dental insurances, and even offer payment plans on dental work. I would definitely recommend coming here for any adult or child dental work you need done :)

I should have been called so that school and work was not missed once again. very very disappointed in this final customer service experience especially after all payments were made. will not be using them in the future for other needs based on this final experience unfortunately. now i will need to miss yet another activity to go back and hopefully the device will be ready, but who knows bc i will likely not be contacted until my time is wasted.

I was fortunate to learn about Dr. Bob through word of mouth. I heard positive reviews of the…read moreMATTIOLI office from both previous & existing patients aged 10 to 60. They, like me, had the very best orthodontic experience & braces outcome ever!! My procedure began in January 2019. (Pre- Covid) I was so impressed with the professionalism & cheerful camaraderie of the MATTIOLI team. At that time 3-5 patients were seen in an open examination space; sharing transparent experiences. As an older patient I especially enjoyed seeing the young kiddos and mature adults all going through very similar orthodontic processes right next to me. I was able to complete my teeth straightening fairly quickly, in one year's time. I was given a retainer to wear and used it as directed. I may miss a night every now and again, but my teeth have benefited greatly and been able to hold their shape beautifully. Dr. Bob has a genuinely warm and kind manner and successfully puts all his patients at ease. A special shout out to Carol, Donna, Tracy, Jasmine and Rachel who always offered the most courteous professional care.

I've waited a long time to write this review because I didn't want it to come across as emotional…read moreor reactive. After several years of reflecting on my experience, I feel it's important to share. About five years ago, shortly after moving to East Greenwich, I received a flyer for Mattioli Orthodontics and decided to move forward with treatment without doing much comparison shopping. They recommended a system called 3M Clarity Aligners. At the time, most people I knew were using Invisalign, but I trusted their recommendation. Unfortunately, my experience with the aligners themselves was not great. The trays extended higher into the gum line and often had sharp edges from the molding process. They repeatedly cut the inside of my cheeks and were very uncomfortable. When I brought this up during appointments, I was told I could file them down myself if needed, which was surprising given the cost of treatment. The most concerning part of my experience, however, was my interaction with Dr. Mattioli. Several months into treatment, I came into the office visibly upset. I had recently moved my mother to Rhode Island into a memory care unit due to Alzheimer's and was dealing with severe insomnia. I explained that I was struggling to consistently wear the aligners because I was grinding my teeth and having a hard time managing everything. While I was in tears explaining this, Dr. Mattioli responded by raising his voice and saying, "If you're not going to wear the braces, what is the point?" and then walked away. I was left shocked and embarrassed. One of the dental hygienists later said something along the lines of, "I'm sorry, that really wasn't about you," which made it feel as though his reaction may have had more to do with his own frustration than my situation. That moment made me seriously question the environment within the office. What made it even more difficult was that Dr. Mattioli never acknowledged or apologized for this interaction. At my next appointment, he simply returned to a cheerful "Hey, how are you?" as if nothing had happened. That disconnect felt disingenuous and made it hard to trust him moving forward. That interaction completely changed my comfort level with the practice. After that, I avoided speaking with him altogether during visits. In addition to that experience, I also felt there was a lack of clear guidance around care. I was never clearly told that only one set of retainers would be provided, nor was I properly instructed on how to maintain them. At one point, I was advised to brush them with toothpaste, which I later learned can damage the material and harbor bacteria. I was never informed about better cleaning methods, such as using an ultrasonic cleaner. I have since transitioned my care to Frenchtown Dental, where I was re-scanned for Invisalign retainers and given significantly more thorough guidance, including options that accommodate teeth grinding. My experience there has been much more positive. I'm sharing this not out of anger, but because I believe patients deserve both quality care and respectful treatment. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Mattioli Orthodontics

Hmm how has no one written a review of these guys yet? How have I not written one yet?…read more Anyway, I've heard that everyone is supposed to hate the dentist. But I LOVE the dentist. I've always wanted to move down south to be with family and I gotta say the one thing slowing me down is the thought of leaving these guys for a new dental office. Mastrostefano is a nice guy and very funny and as careful as he can be not to hurt you even on the worst fillings. They remember everything important about you and make you smile even when you've got an open mouth full of equipment. Most importantly, they are honest and won't fill a cavity just to squeeze money out of you if it's a beginner and doesn't need to be filled. Even though I moved an hour away I still come here because there's no one better. Today I came in for a cleaning appointment that was apparently scheduled for another day (my fault) and they squeezed me in anyway!
