My dentist Dr. Stein retired so I was referred to Dr. Wolnik because he had bought Dr. Steins practice. I was so disappointed when I found out my dentist would not be practicing anymore as Dr. Michael Stein AND his staff were very friendly and professional! Well, I went to Dr. Wolnik about three times and never again! After getting a cleaning and routine exam I received a bill for $35. Since my insurance fully covers a cleaning/exam every six months I called the office and questioned the bill. This is where the nightmare began...I was told by the receptionist after explaining my insurance should have fully covered the appt that the bill was for a periodontal exam and that my insurance did not cover it. Confused, I asked why I was given a periodontal exam if I was not covered at the time because I would not have got one if I knew I wasn't due and it was going to cost me money. Very Rudely, she told me that it is ROUTINE for them to do a periodontal exam every cleaning whether or not insurance covers it at the time and that I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN WHAT WAS COVERED BEFORE COMING IN. What???? I said " don't you check to see what my insurance covers before I come because Dr. Steins office did and I NEVER received an unexpected bill from him. She said "well we're NOT dr. Stein and it's our policy to do the periodontal exam, besides it's only $35 really?!?!" wow! She also said to me that I SHOULD HAVE ASKED what they were going to be doing that day when I came in and should have KNOWN what was covered and how come I didn't know what they were doing in my mouth if I didn't want one done! I said "what!?!" I then asked her "so if I needed a filling you would just do it whether or not my insurance covered it without asking me?" Her response was, "well I don't know what to tell you but it's our policy to do a periodontal exam at each cleaning , and what, you can't afford $35???" I was appalled...I explained that I have 5 children and I'm not going to pay for something that I didn't authorize....I asked her to have Dr. Wolnik call me and she REFUSED. She then took out my chart and said my insurance shows that I WAS actually eligible for a periodontal exam and that I need to call my insurance...more confused, I explained to her that I just had one done 6 months ago and NO I was not eligible but I will call the insurance company anyways since I was getting NOWHERE with her. After talking to my insurance company, I was informed by them that NO i had no periodontal exams left until next year because I did just have one 6 months ago. I called Dr. Wolniks office again, left numerous messages but no response...finally a week later I call and got a hold of the same receptionist who argued RUDELYwith me AGAIN that I DID in fact have a periodontal exam remaining which should have been covered. She then got tired of me and passed me along to another receptionist there who too was extremely rude and told me I had to pay the $35 or they would send me to collections! I told her then to fax me what THEY have that shows I was eligible for the exam so I could understand this all...WELL they faxed me my insurance information (WHICH THEY PRINTED OUT AND WERE INFORMED A WEEK BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT) which showed I had ZERO periodontal exams remaining before my visit BUT my son (whose name was directly under mine) had 1. Well, this explained it all...THEY MADE THE MISTAKE AND LOOKED AT MY INSURANCE ELIGIBILITY WRONG. I called numerous times after...no reply back...finally got a hold of them two weeks later and explained to them that they looked at my sons eligibility and not MINE and that NO, I was not eligible and NO I am not paying for the exam. After saying they would consult with the doctor about it (very Rudely) and that they would call me back..never did I hear anything until I CALLED a week later and asked what was the outcome which I received a NASTY response of "just forget about the $35"...NEVER an apology! Just rudeness and aggravation for a month over $35! Needless to say I canceled every appointment for my family after that and switch dentists. They can thank Their unprofessional nasty front help for that! read more
