I highly recommend Dr. Kenneth Hovden, for his outstanding dental knowledge, highly skilled dental workmanship, and sincere caring for his patients. Our family of three have been patients of Dr Hovden and his Father's original practice for 30+ years. We really appreciate the team's attention to detail, knowledge of the dental industry evolving treatments, patience and light touch, and concern for our oral health often tied to our overall well being. A few years back Dr Hovden was the first to observe early stages of Tardive Dyskinesia in my mother that allowed us to address the symptoms much earlier with positive results. Many many thanks to Dr Hovden and his team for being so observant and proactive! The Wurnitsch Family read more

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Hovden and his extraordinary care. After a previous dental procedure went horribly wrong, I was left not only with physical damage but also with a deep fear of anyone working on my teeth again. When I first came to Dr. Hovden, I was terrified--truly traumatized--and didn't know if things could ever be made right. From the very beginning, Dr. Hovden exuded a calm, confident professionalism that immediately began to rebuild my trust. He took the time to explain every step of the process, and it was clear he wouldn't settle for anything less than absolute perfection. Over the next three years, he carefully and meticulously corrected the damage, ultimately building a bridge so flawlessly crafted you'd never know anything had ever been wrong. It's genuinely beautiful--a work of art that blends so naturally you would never know any work had been done. Dr. Hovden is not just a dentist; he's a perfectionist, an artist, and a healer. I can honestly say I would trust him with anything. If he told me I needed something done, I wouldn't hesitate--I would do it, no questions asked. His skill, care, and dedication changed my life, and I'll always be grateful. If you're looking for someone who takes pride in doing things right--especially if you've had a bad experience elsewhere--Dr. Hovden is the one you want. I'd give him ten stars if I could. read more

Doctor Hovden and his team are amazing! I first met Dr. Hovden about 15 years ago and presented him with a lot of challenges as my teeth were in horrible shape and I needed a long-term plan. My treatment plan required extractions root, canals, and more involved collaboration with other healthcare practitioners. My goal, what I wanted was a full heathy smile to replace the missing and damaged teeth I had. He not only presented several options and customized a plan for me that took @10 years (because of my other health issues) but he's also helped my wife and daughter. My treatment resulted in complete replacement with upper and lower porcelain dentures and implants and a fantastic smile ! I encourage anyone looking for a caring and extraordinarily talented Prosthodontist (his specialty is cosmetic dentistry) to seek out doctor Hovden and his staff Together they provide a small and close knit team that gave me my smile and a large part of the enjoyment of my life back. It would be impossible for me to say all the complementary words he and his team deserves Dr. Hovden rocks! read more

Dr Hovden is a leader in Cosmetic dentistry, but first he is a leader in good dentistry. I need a crown so my damaged tooth needed a lot of sculpting for the impression. I didn't feel a thing! I heard lots of whirring, but felt no pain, not even the local anesthetic. Afterwards, when the local wore off, I had no discomfort. His staff is very accommodating in scheduling appointments and pleasant in person. I feel more like a guest than a patient. read more

Dr. Hovden is the most thorough dentist I've ever seen. And I've jumped around quite a bit. Most dentists I've seen are acceptable, but not exceptional. I went to see Dr. Hovden because I'm interested in veneers, due to wear (grinding), particularly on 1-2 teeth. Other cosmetic dentists I've seen have jumped straight into a full smile makeover proposal, but Dr. Hovden wants to understand the full health of my mouth. It started with an online cosmetic consultation. I sent photos and Dr. Hovden made a video recording with his comments and examples of other similar work he has done. In person, Dr. Hovden took the time to understand the full health of my mouth and other factors. He asked about my IBS, snoring, diet, etc. He took very thorough photos. He checked not just for decay and wear, but for oral cancer, jaw health, gum health. He made a model of my teeth, but digitally, not with the clay other dentists put in your mouth. Pretty advanced stuff. Now I'm switching all my records to do my general dentistry here too. I'll come back and update this review with my results. So far he did a full exam and consultations, no actual work yet. Dr. Hovden is very patient to answer all my questions. I'm sorry to whoever came after me that had to wait! read more

Excellant office and support team. Dr. Hovden is amazing. Professional and kind. He is constantly bringing in the latest in dentistry and has been our family dentist for over 30 years. His sister was our children's and our orthodontist and I would say the same about her. While she has retired I continue to see Dr, Hovden and recommend him easily. read more

Dr. Hovden worked with my periodontal implant surgeon, Dr. Paola Guglielmoni, to create implant-supported dentures for all of my upper and lower teeth. I have advanced periodontal disease, and my teeth were rotting, loose and falling out (see "before" photo below). This was a 2 year process which involved 2 major oral surgeries, 1 upper and 1 lower in which ALL of my teeth were removed, implants screwed in, and the full denture attached. Dr. Hovden's role was to measure my mouth, jaws, existing teeth and create upper and lower dentures to exactly fit the implants placed by Dr. Guglielmoni. This involved crafting 2 temporary and 1 final appliance for the upper and lower teeth. He did this with such precision, craftsmanship and attention to detail AND literally held my hand during the surgery while the implants were being screwed in! Aside from the technical aspects of fitting the appliance which is a feat in itself, Dr. Hovden had a great sense of artistry when it came to color, size and texture of the dentures. If everything was not perfect, he sent it back until it was. He is also a really good photographer both professionally and recreationally. Due to the level of detail and very involved process, I saw Dr. Hovden a lot over that time period. His office and clinical staff were always friendly and professional and he was always flexible with scheduling when needed. I highly recommend Dr. Ken Hovden. He is an expert in his field, regularly teaches and takes continuing education classes, is kind, compassionate and professional!! Bonus for me was that his office is off of Skyline Boulevard so my drive there from the Outer Sunset was always short and beautiful! read more

This review is just for a consultation, I haven't had any work done here... YET. I'm still shopping around (I don't have any dental insurance) but had to write up a review for Dr. Hovden because he is just so awesome. :) He provided an in-depth consultation with great insight and knowledge. I was blown away by his sincere kindness and *free* invaluable advice. I've never gotten that from anyone in the health industry. I've always felt other Dr's wouldn't give me the time of day because of the no insurance thing, but from the first moment I walked in the door, I was greeted very warmly by the Dr. himself, filled out the customary forms and was taken back for my appt. within 2 seconds. Well it seemed that quick. I was so impressed that I'm now writing this review. I have a few other consultations but I have a very good feeling I'll be coming back to Dr. Hovden. Update 3/27/13: I went in today for an exam, x-rays and cleaning. I was planning on spending between $400 - $450 according to the nice lady that scheduled my appt. I spent $500.00 but was not able to get the cleaning done. I need deep cleaning (and other treatments) which will run me somewhere like $5000.00! This doesn't even include the cosmetic part of what I need done. I truly appreciate the excellent work that is done here at Dr. Hovden's office, but I don't see myself coming back here - I simply cannot afford their services. read more

I've been lucky enough to have found Dr. Hovden when I moved to Daly City a few years ago. He did my veneer procedure which restored my smile. I have been going to his clinic ever since for cleaning, fillings, and check ups. Dr. Hovden is the best dentist I've had. His passion resonates with his work, as well as the upbeat demeanor of everyone in the clinic. They definitely make you feel comfortable and welcomed. Highly recommended. read more

Dr. Hovden is best there is (and worth every minute of my hour drive). He will communicate well and allow you to establish your own goals rather than trying to upsell you at every occasion - I really appreciated the honesty. His review of my oral health was a great learning opportunity for me, and he was diligent at explaining all the options I had. Every treatment I had was done with great skill and attention both by him and his staff - and he personally follows up and cares afterwards. There're lots of other great reviews here and I can just repeat every positive comment. Also, I really like his composed posture, from the very first second you know you're in the best hands. read more

Dr. Hovden is absolutely exceptional! By far the most professional and thorough dentist I have ever been to. From the initial consult where he took the time to explain proper tooth care, flossing, brushing angles, etc. to the professional-grade photos he took of my smile, bite and jawline. Everything was top notch and performed with cutting edge technology. His bedside manner was superb as well. You can tell that he truly cares about each and every one of his patients and genuinely enjoys his work. I am so happy with my dental work and love the results! I cannot recommend him highly enough! read more

Dr Ken Hovden has been my general dentist for over 25 years now and I could not be happier. He has taken fantastic care of my teeth and when work needs to be done I have full confidence is his work and ability. A true perfectionist for all the right reasons. Very contemporary is his approach and uses the latest technology to care for his patients. Always up-to-date with improvements in dental care. The office staff is always friendly, helpful and respectful. The scheduling of appointments is well managed and he does not run late. Dr. Hovden does beautiful work and pays attention to detail. I am thrilled with my new veneers and all my friends are in awe. If your appointment is 3: p.m., you will be seen within 3 minutes of your appointment time. The office staff is welcoming and efficient. I also loved the quietly played Maroon Five music in the background. Expensive but competively priced and worth it! Thank you Dr. Hovden for a job well done. read more

Dr. Hovden is simply the best dentist one could ask for. He knows his stuff, not only the things every dentist learns in school, but also the latest studies and innovations in the field of dentistry. He considers all angles regarding what is best for each individual patient, and communicates the options along with his expert opinion in a way that is informative without being pushy. He shares offices with his sister, Caren Hovden, who is a fantastic orthodontist, so the combination is great if you need both. The only downside for me is that my insurance only reimburses part of the bill, so the rest comes out of my pocket. But he is so good that I don't even mind the insurance issue. I'm sure that I've saved far more in time, money, and pain by taking advantage of his expertise over the years. read more

We chose Dr. Hovden because of the great reviews. My husbands experience getting a crown replaced did not go as well as we hoped. They use a laboratory in Southern California so the wait time is 6 weeks. After doing some research the usual turnaround is 2 weeks. We assumed that lab was so good that their work would be exemplary. When the crown arrived the fit and color were wrong. Had to wait a few more weeks for the replacement. The fit was good but the color was still off a bit. The Dr. said he would send it back and make it right, but by this time my husband was not willing to wait anymore and has just decided to live with it. His prices are high and we expected a better initial result without having to keep coming back. read more

Dr. K. Hovden has been our family dentist for over 20 years. He is the consummate professional. On top of trends, knowledgeable at various levels and his technique with even the basics of injections and cleanings is the best. This review is LONG overdue! Ken is a wonderful dentist and it's taken me years to finally find a dentist I love in SF. I went to Ken wanting veneers for my two front teeth. While my issues weren't huge, it definitely was something I wanted to do for years. I had quotes from other dentists that were cheaper, but they would've had to shave my teeth down completely and I'd lose strength and the core of my natural teeth. Ken made it possible to save my teeth while adding the thinnest veneers possible. I'm so happy with my new front teeth I could cry! He walked me through the process step by step and made sure that I was aware of everything that would happen along the way. His main concern is keeping the strength and health of your teeth, which is so important when requesting cosmetic work! No shortcuts with Ken! Not only is Ken wonderful, but I love the staff there as well. They will definitely be my dentist as long as I live in the Bay Area! read more

Dr Hovden is one of the best dentists I have seen. He gave me the most thorough and detailed exam I have ever had! He was the only one who was able to do the cosmetic dentistry I was looking for. He works fast and is caring. Very personable. I highly recommend him. Six stars. read more

He is kind and experienced. No complaints regarding the dentist. However, you must pay up front and get reimbursed by your insurance company and that can be a pain since dental procedures are very expensive. read more

A dentist I no longer respect or trust. He told me he would be upfront with me regarding all prices. When I didn't want 4 K in additional dental work he tried to charge me $200 to remove my upper attachment. I spoke several times to him regarding the fact that I never wanted to go back to Dr Randhawa and Dr Hovden told me he would remove the attachment for free. I've been very direct with Dr Hovden that I found his attempt to charge me an additional $200 a sleazeball tactic when I wouldn't give him the 4k for veneers and more. He's fully aware that I'm a student and simply didn't have an additional 4K. He also had his receptionist tell me that the $200 was on my written plan of payments but I have a copy and it wasn't AVOID DR HOVDEN. There are far better dentists out there. read more
