The value of a handmade piece of art varies as to the work and design in creating the piece. Urban Outfitters is a very cool store and always has been and sells a lot of street clothes and hip clothes and trendy clothes at decent, mid, higher than mid, or flat out high prices - depending on how you look at it - to the cool kids basically. I've been shopping at DY Northpark for a couple years now. Aside from wearing the jewelry (I can't format this message the way I want to, but imagine there's a strikethrough over "jewelry") art pieces on my body daily, you wouldn't expect me to be a DY customer. I'm blessed enough to have worked in an industry that allows me to make enough money to invest in art for myself and my loved ones, but my preferred attire is some form of American Eagle and/or Target shorts and t-shirts. Northpark has an AE, likely for teenagers, but that's literally the only NP clothing store I've shopped at other than Express for the sole purpose of wanting a new suit for an interview with a small company after escaping from 17 years of corporate life. I say all this because... I know I don't look like "a David Yurman client", and I say proudly: I never will. This story matters to me because when I showed up at this incredible store to buy my first chain ($300 gray titanium box chain) a couple years ago, I had no idea the journey I would start. A journey that has not only helped me reconnect with my love of art that I never realized I had because I spent the first 22 years of my life doing basically nothing other than playing baseball and going to school (in that order), but a journey that has helped me realize that there is nothing more important than human connection. And that when you connect with other incredible, loving, wise humans... you can accomplish anything you've ever wanted to. Dennis is the person who helped me start this journey. Because as dapper as that wonderful man is, he NEVER EVER made me feel the way I assumed/was worried I would feel the moment I walked into DY the first time. Like this place was not at all "my place", and that everyone working in the store would know it the second I walked in. Dennis had absolutely no idea who I was, and I had no idea who he was. Now knowing the type of money people spend at that store, I believe Dennis probably assumed he may never see me again, as I don't imagine some random dude in shorts, t-shirt, hat & sneakers buying the cheapest box chain DY offers, is usually the type of person that comes back. But I kept going back. Because of Dennis. Because Dennis treated me no differently from how he treats every single person I have seen him work "with". He is a true partner in anyone and everyone's journey of style, building confidence, investing in art, or in my case... building relationships and connections with the best humans there are. Two years later, I believe I am a "regular" and get greeted by name and with a smile from other amazing people like JILLIAN, Marcus, Ty, Kristin, Muluken, Donovan, and others. Many times, I'm with my family & extended family, which includes a baby, multiple toddlers, a 6 year old that enjoys running around and having fun... another thing I thought would be "an issue" because of how "rich folks" usually respond to "riff raff" (I'm showing my age lol) from young people. Have the amazing people at DY NP made me feel crappy for bringing them? Nope. Have they smiled and talked to all the kiddos the way I'd expect great people to? Absolutely. I've also made sure to learn the names of Virginia, Chris, and Larkin. No, I'm not trying to win a popularity contest, as I dress a certain way because I literally do not like spot lights. But do I want every single great person in this store led by Kristin to know that I care about them the way they seem to care about me? Hell yes I do. My partner (I always say "partner" and strangers eventually think I'm talking about a man, but no, my partner is very much a female, and my ex-wife/bff is also a female lol) calls these types of speeches / conversations "tributaries" because I always branch off into multiple streams... but I like to think I always make it back to the river at the appropriate time, even though most people don't have the patience to read through something like this. Admittedly, I'm the same unless "the hook" got me at the beginning. If the hook got you and you're still here, let me get back to the river for you... If you buy jewelry/art and don't shop at David Yurman in NorthPark, I'd say you're doing it wrong. Full stop. Am I guaranteeing your first experience will be perfect? Of course not... that's not possible to guarantee. Am I saying that you will eventually meet some of the most amazing people you can ever "shop" with because of people like Dennis, Kristin & everyone I named above? Fuck yeah I am. I remember a few months back, I had visited here to purchase a small pinky ring ( not very expensive compared to the huge pricey selection they have ) but that is only to say that Donovan made it feel like I was walking out the store with a million dollars worth of jewelry. He killed that. The presentation, the offering of a glass of champagne, the set up, and even him positioning the bag in front of the David Yurman sign inside just so I can get a good photo was just incredible. It was memorable. I had returned with my boyfriend the 3rd week of December to purchase his first DY piece-- PRAYING Donovan was working, but instead was helped by Jillian. Horrible experience. She said his bracelet was out of stock throughout all locations and when I double checked if the Plano location had it, she said no. I checked on the website immediately as we were checking out and saw it said IN STOCK. Huh... that's funny. When I confronted her about it, she stuttered and honestly, I forgot what she said. She did not offer water, no glass of champagne, no photo op, no nothing. It was just a sale. EXTREMELY disappointing for my boyfriend's FIRST DY piece and our Christmas present experience. It was not supposed to go that way. After we left, my boyfriend noticed she did not spell the shipping address correctly AT ALL. We went back to have her FIX the address-- so extremely irritated and just so freakin disappointed. Returned 2 weeks later and ONLY wanted Donovan. He proceeded to help me and my father with our Christmas shopping and again, he did not disappoint. He is truly amazing. He never makes me feel like we are taking too long, always suggests different pieces, compliments, offers beverages during the experience, and truly is remarkable. I can always count on amazing customer service from him-- which I guess is hard to find even within the same DY store lol. If you EVER visit this location... you know EXACTLY who to ask for. Henley is my guy, he is very knowledgeable about diamonds and takes very good care of moi. Henley very impressively redesigned my 18k Gold Yakut Russian yellow miner's cut canary diamond ring to a three stone showstopper. It's truly magnificent. He also fixed my little deco white Yakut Russian diamond solitaire that kept gettin caught on everything, the prongs had wore down & needed to be fixed. Henley had the jeweler redo the prongs on it. The jeweler even came out of the service area & brought me my deco solitaire ring personally & told me how much he enjoyed working on it, as it's very rare to see Yakut Russian miner cut diamonds nowadays. Henley is the sweetest. He showers me with outrageously expensive diamonds while I'm there, showing me this & that adorning me with gorgeous super expensive canary diamond bracelets & jewels just for fun while we share a glass of champagne. What a wonderful experience this place is. What a wonderful man he is. It's Henley that makes it magical, he himself shines like a diamond and is worth his weight in gold.
