Devoted and caring teachers, my son loves coming here. We've been coming since April 2013, and it's really surprising how much my son has learned. My son loves the water. But every time I tried to take him in the pool all he wanted to do was hang on my neck and be carried. Now, he's comfortable and confident enough to jump in on his own and explore. Be warned that it's on the pricy side. But the classes only have four kids, so they're essentially semi private lessons. And for a small fee they will let you make up missed classes, so when you go on vacation or travel, you don't lose money. And at the sunrise school, they have enough classes that you can bunch up your 30 min lessons-so that your child can swim for an hour, making the drive more worthwhile. Lots of flexibility, so there are options for you to bring your child any day of the week, at your convenience.

Another pickle ball court review!…read more You can usually find me and my friends here every Sunday for an early morning to noon pickleball session. A few downsides to these courts- - They don't have any lights so they aren't ideal for evening play - I've heard they're strict with locking up at a certain time - There are also no partitions between some of the courts so get ready to yell "ball!" during your games - No bathrooms that we know of. Some of our friends had to drive over to Target to use the restroom. There are 8 pickleball courts, 2 tennis courts, and a few racquetball areas. These courts are rarely crowded, which is what we love. Even playing with strangers, everyone so far has been super courteous and play levels run from beginner to intermediate from what I've seen. Overall a good court if you're in the Kendall area.

Munroe was born in a log cabin in Prairie-du-Chien, Wisconsin in 1850. One of his first adventures was to walk across the continent of North America. He went on to travel the world where he wrote stories based on his experiences. His career included newspaper reporting, editing, and authoring adventure books for boys. "Through Swamp and Glade" and "Flamingo Feather" are novels based on his experiences with the Seminole Indians in Florida. In 1866 Kirk Munroe settled in Coconut Grove with his wife. It was ten years prior to Miami being incorporated as a city. Although he still traveled, he always enjoyed returning to his home in Coconut Grove which he called Scrububs. Kirk was a noted member of the Florida Audubon Society and helped establish the Ransom Everglades School. While in the Grove, he and Ralph Munroe founded the Biscayne Bay Yacht Club in 1887 to celebrate Washington's birthday. Ralph donated the land that Kirk founded the Coconut Grove Library on. It was the first library in the state of Florida to own its building. Kirk Munroe passed away on June 16, 1930 at the age of 79, at a Florida sanitarium in Orlando. His funeral service was held at the Plymouth Congregational Church. Kirk Munroe Park is Miami's only tennis park. The park has five tennis courts and offers tennis programs for youth and adults. Other park amenities include bathrooms, picnic tables, a playground, and outdoor gym equipment. While primarily a tennis park, area residents also enjoy picnics here and taking their children to play. Changes may soon be in store for this park. Coral Gables-based Allen Morris Company is proposing a massive mixed-use project, Ziggurat, for the block where Coconut Grove Laundry & Cleaners now operates, between the park and Fuller Street. If it is approved they agreed to redesign Kirk Munroe Park with a new children's play area, café, new landscaping, and a complete refurbishment of the park's five tennis courts. Some Grove residents are worried that such a massive project with impact the bohemian charm of their historic neighborhood. It is something to keep an eye on.

Besides the courts, Kirk Munroe is a regular ol' park. It has a jungle gym, large grassy area (but dogs must be on a leash), and also fitness equipment for pull ups and the like. There are plenty of large trees to provide some shade, as well. Overall, it's an awesome center in the heart of Coconut Grove! Metered parking is found around the courts on Matilda St.

The boat itself is incredibly spacious inside and outside the cabin, and very comfortably accommodated our group, along with a private chef for our catered excursion. We had plenty of time to "booze and cruise", swim, and take turns using the JetSki. Captain Kevin helpfully advised us on the ideal spots for each activity, and even acted as a tour guide for some of the noteworthy sightseeing hotspots we encountered. Tiffany from Y Charter was a delight to work with. She was attentive to our needs from the day I confirmed the reservation through the day of our sailing, and made herself available to answer my questions via phone and text. I wholeheartedly recommend Y Charter, and look forward to my next trip on the Carpe Diem!

You had me at "Miami in November."…read more The Miami Man is not just a triathlon, it's a whole two day Multisport event with the Aquathon ( between 2/3 and a mile swim depending how you look at it) and a 5k run) on Saturday, and all the many other events (aquabike, duathlon, triathlons) on Sunday. Many of these events, including the Aquathon will qualify you to be in Team USA at the world championships if you place well enough. While I only participated in the Saturday aquathon (which as I understand it is a little more laid back than the other Sunday events,) I really enjoyed the event. I thought it was well organized and staff and other participants were all quite friendly. There's lots of fun things to look at and pose by - the giant #Miamiman sign in front of the lake, a sign with all the participants name on it, lots of miami man merch to buy, various local food trucks. My only gripe would be the venue...it was fine overall...but its Miami and I was dieing for some ocean views or swims! The event is held at a park and lake connected to the miami zoo. The aquathon does not go through the actual zoo but the triathlon does. Its Miami proper but very southwest of the main city area and Miami Beach by maybe 30-45 min depending on traffic. I realize it would be pretty hard to do this near the ocean but nonetheless that's what I was hoping for. They did incorporate the zoo theme into our swag (see the adorable monkey bag - they also had giraffes and elephants), super cute finisher medal and a really nice tech shirt. If you are looking for an event to do with a little vacation on the side, I'd highly reccomend you look into this festival for next year!

This is the only 70.3 miles multi sport event in Miami - It now has the option of racing this…read morecourse for both Olympic or International distance or doing the full 70.3 or half ironman event. Kudos to Multirace.com for putting together such a monumental event. The location is totally representative of South Florida, although the swim leg is not in the ocean, we have plenty of open water events in Miami that take care in the ocean. This one is unique because you do 2 laps of half a mile each in the lake at Larry and Penny Thompson Park - Because this race is held in October, it is touch and go whether it is wetsuit legal or not - the rules allow for wetsuits when the water temp is 72 degrees or less. Normally I race sans wetsuit because even if it is allowed it is never cold enough to make it necessary, and I don't like to deal with the hassle of trying to peel it off in the swim to bike transition. The bike leg is 56 miles of rural unincorporated Miami Dade county, it is beautiful and peaceful, a great opportunity to ride your bike next to strawberry fields and other farm products, it is as close to nature as you can get around here. With limited vehicular traffic and police officers in all major intersections, this ride is a very enjoyable part of the race. However, the openness of the field makes it for a windy ride which will pack a pretty good punch when you are battling the headwinds. Keep in mind that this is not a draft legal race so cannot benefit from drafting behind other cyclists - it is all you - but then again, this is why we do these kind of efforts. And for the run - half a marathon run that takes you right through the Miami Zoo -yes that's right !! The Miami Metro Zoo - For the Zoo goers we are actually a bigger attraction than the animals because we must be out of our minds to want to swim, cycle and run for almost 6 hours for no reason at all ... The run is beautiful and unique and it makes for a fantastic experience. Check the multirace website and sign up for any of their events - including the Miami Man - triathlon - you will come out a better you.

You have to be a member to use the club. If you try and walk thru the property the manager or…read morecustodian will tell you to leave because you don't belong there. If your a local key rat and know members of the beach club then you are welcomed. If you are sitting on the beach and are not a member but want to walk on the property to get a burger and fries as your spending money there ... then your welcome. Moral of the story is know someone who is a member or be very polite when walking there from the beach and spend some $$$ and you will be ok to sit there and enjoy the view. If you randomly just walk there and don't buy anything and your not a member you will be kicked off the property. Members only. Honest mistakes by passing thru to the beach isn't a good excuse... it says at the entrance members only. That's why they have the Public Park with local key gate entrance next door. If your not from the key and your an out of Towner or fake key rat then you wouldn't know that. Love the beach club but it's lost its touch from a traditional local fun key spot to becoming an egotistic members only stuffy and pricey beach number spot with low quality service and idiotic people running the institution of what the beach club should truly represent... a good time. It needs a facelift and I don't mean that physically.... it needs to have a fresher style of today with the personality of the 70s. The only thing good they've done there lately is remodel the patio area for weddings. That's about it. Maybe build a new gym and equipment for members and how about a real grill like they just opened at key colony or ocean club or the ritz? Welcome to the 21st century. I'm not even a member but I say spend members money on things they can really use.

Sealife rentals has saved the day! A few times I've contacted them super last minute, and they…read morealways manage to find a captained boat for us to rent, even on holiday weekends. We had originally booked with another company who cancelled on us the day of, so I contacted Sealife and they found us a boat the same day with all the required paperwork. They are meticulous about making sure their boats and captains are up to code, very reliable, friendly, and always pull through for us! I would recommend not waiting until the last minute to book your rental, but whether in advance or otherwise Sealife rentals should be your go-to. They're the best!
