I love tropical park…read more I've been coming to this park for like 30 years . Not sure if you are a fan of running you can use causeway and bridges for hill and speed work. There's something nostalgic about running up what used to feel like a mountain, but in actuality is a hill. This park has a bit of everything for folks who want to get in a jog in a safe and close place to birthday parties, events, family outings, even spend a little bit of time on the water There are basketball and tennis courts and a great equestrian center . The other side of this park used to be a winter time Christmas celebration. The park itself has a plethora of random parking spots , but my favorite thing has to be being outdoors in a safe place Please, no as with virtually all other places, I am not wanting to hang around after dark . Additionally, though there is a regulation 400 m track on the bird road side of the park that opens early, I am not one to arrive somewhere before the sun comes up. That being said the hours of operation are convenient for folks who are visiting and want to just relax or for those that are training for something physical and getting healthy and prefer being outdoors instead of inside a gym with recirculated air Tip: the distance from SW. 56th St. to SW. 40th St. is exactly 1 mile. If you run along the west side of the park, you can literally run safely without heavily tracking distance and instead focus on the run and how you feel I highly encourage anyone who hasn't been to this park to visit it and touch grass every now and then . I love it and I will continue doing so anytime. I'm in town.

City of West Miami Recreation Center

It is a fenced park that includes a baseball field (kid size), two full basketball courts, a tennis court and a racquetball court, a tiny gym, and two ballrooms. If you had the pleasure to have The Rec as your voting site, then you know what I am talking about. I used to play basketball regularly on the basketball courts, but a knee injury limits my time on the sport. Nevertheless, the park is pretty quiet, and it's a comfortable place to play sports. I like not finding beer bottles or glass laying around, like at some other parks. Also, The Rec is only open to the residents of West Miami, so no crackheads are allowed. Of the other amenities available, the ballrooms are worth to mention. They are available for rent, one of them comes with a small kitchen, and they have been recently built. The rest of the amenities are also available, although you may have to check with the office for available times, since they are used for private lessons. If you live in the City of West Miami, then you must have stopped by The Rec at some point in time. If you are not a resident, then you can access the facilities with a resident of the city. Whichever way you choose to enter The Rec, you are guaranteed to have a great time.

The basketball courts are very well lit and impeccably maintained. They do have a small area that's available to rent for private parties but since the supply is limited it is strongly suggested to reserve ahead of time. This venter is one of the best parts of West Miami and you'll find that it's quite enjoyable and not as congested as other community centers. It's a great spot to do laps around or even teach your kid how to ride bike without training wheels. It's got a little bit for everyone and it's centrally located so accessibility isn't an issue. I can't emphasize enough on how pleasant it is to have such a clean neighborhood park that the community can use happily.

Ten 2 year old kids with one coach is way too many kids per teacher. We were assured there would be 2 coaches but that was a lie, it was always 1 coach. Trying to round up the kids took up the majority of the 30 minute class. Handing out stickers took up another 10 minutes of the class. My son touched the ball an average of 3 times per class and I was paying $16 a class for that. Most of the time he was standing around bored waiting for other kids to take a turn. The coach also obviously didn't have experience with this age group as he would consistently ask the kids things that weren't age appropriate. A 2 year old can't name all the different colors and understand what you want them to do based on a color cone. When he went into a whole explanation and definition about dribbling I had to laugh when I saw the deer in headlights faces of the 2 years old in the class. Killian complex is a dumpy facility too. If you are looking for classes where your kid will actually play and learn soccer basics, this is not the place for you.

Based off of what I've heard and experienced with other organizations, this one is very professional and thorough. I was very happy with my sons' summer season and already signed up for the Fall. Happy to have found Soccer Shots!
