This is a 14.5 acre park located in Miami across from Killian High School named in honor of Ronald…read moreRay Ehmann (1940-1975), a beloved coach of the Killian Cougars before his life ended tragically in a car accident at the age of only 34. Coach Ehmann was known for his love of sports, physical fitness, and the out doors. At Killian high school he was a biology and physical education teacher before taking over the P.E. Department. He championed his students and before his passing he accompanied six of Killian's most accomplished athletes to compete nationally in the Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test. A unique feature of this park is that it has a walking trail through seven acres of a preserved pine rockland habitat which is only found on the limestone terrain in south Florida and the Bahamas. The only trees that live in this habitat are slash pines along with an understory of palms, shrubs, herbs. Pine rockland used to cover 180,000 acres of Miami Dad County but after development, only two percent are left in public parks and preserves. During my walk through the preserve I spotted many Peter's rock agama lizards, an invasive species from Africa. They were first introduced to Florida in 1976 from the pet trade. Adult males have distinctive red heads and black bodies and can grow up to a foot long. Their range has been expanding and they are now found as far north as Jacksonville and as far south as Big Pine Key. Unfortunately they like to feast on Florida's endangered butterfly species like the Florida Leafwing and the gray Bartram's Hairstreak which also live in the pine rocklands. Scientists are currently studying the effect on the environment of these lizards and I was able to file an online report of my observations with the University of Georgia who is recording invasive species sightings. In addition to the nature trail park amenities include a basketball court, soccer field, softball field, bike path, quiet resting place, playground, outdoor fitness equipment, recreation center, tennis center and six lighted tennis courts. Winter, spring, and summer camps are offered in the park along with tennis lessons. This park is a respite of nature in urban Miami. Come out and play, exercise, bird watch, or just to enjoy nature. The park is open every day from sunrise until sunset.

The community dates back to 1950 and has continued to develop over the years. Suniland Park was created from Rock Pit #21, a five acre parcel that Miami Dade County purchased in 1916. In 1938 they added 3.5 acres and dedicated the land to be used for a park. On September 8, 1962, the county officially agreed to develop the property with athletic facilities including baseball and football fields and basketball courts. In 1999, the facility was deeded by the county to the Village of Pinecrest. The park was completely redeveloped during 2002-2003. The $1.6 million improvements to the park included building a gazebo, enhancements to the basketball courts and fields, a new jogging/walking path, and lighting upgrades. Today Suniland Park is known for Andre Dawson Field and Howard Palmetto Hall of Fame Field. Andre Nolan Dawson, nicknamed "the Hawk" and "Awesome Dawson", is an American former professional baseball outfielder who was born in Miami. He played 21 seasons in Major League Baseball on four different teams as a center and right fielder and spent most of his career with the Montreal Expos and Chicago Cubs. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010 and is a longtime Pinecrest resident. The main field was dedicated to Dawson in 2011. The park is home to the Howard Palmetto Baseball Softball Association, the largest recreational baseball and softball league for children 4-17 in Florida. The league was founded in 1962 and since then over one hundred and twenty thousand people have participated, coached, or attended games at the league. The active ten-acre park has multipurpose athletic fields for both baseball and football, batting cages, basketball courts, a multipurpose room, a Wi-Fi Spot in the gazebo, a playground, and Pawcrest Park, the only off-leash dog park in Pinecrest. Many generations of Pinecrest kids grew up playing at this park and it is still just as beloved today.

They also host a annual fire work show here on the fourth of July that is AMAZING! Tons of fun games, entertainment, Food trucks, and Fireworks. Its a must to come and check this out.

Plenty of leagues in the area use this park for their practices and events so if you're a soccer mom- you've likely ended up here. It's a nice spot to walk your dog when it's emptier in the early mornings or late evenings. The park also has parking which makes it a plus for those commuters. Most importantly, there's actually bathrooms which makes things a lot easier when you just gotta go. The area is in the nicer edge of SoMi so the neighborhood is definitely aesthetically pleasing. It's right in between Miller and Sunset on 67th Avenue so you can exit either road and be here in a heartbeat. Now, go enjoy those great outdoors.

Today we went to this water park for my little cousin's 8th birthday, a celebration that had been…read moreplanned well in advance. Our family spent weeks organizing everything, invested a significant amount of money, and arrived early to spend over two hours decorating the reserved birthday area we had rented for the day. There was a brief moment of thunder, and we completely understand that guests cannot be in the water during lightning or thunder for safety reasons. However, the thunder stopped almost immediately, there was no rain at that time or for the rest of the day, yet the staff forced everyone to leave the park. We were also required to take down all of our birthday decorations, despite having paid to reserve the space. The staff was rude, provided little to no explanation, and told us we would not receive a refund. This policy was never disclosed to us when booking the birthday rental. About 1hr later, we were finally allowed back into the park, but by then we had to completely redecorate the party area and contact all of the families and children who had already left so they could return. It created unnecessary stress, confusion, and took away from what should have been a special day for an 8-year-old. This is a warning to anyone considering booking a birthday party or group event here. Be aware that if weather causes even a brief closure, you may be forced to leave, dismantle your entire event, and receive no refund or clear communication. We were very disappointed by how this situation was handled and expected much better customer service.

Flagler Grove Park is ideal for sports enthusiasts. Dedicated in 2008, this 2.4 acre park has four synthetic field options, a 7x7 soccer field and a 9x9 soccer field which are overlaid on a full 11x11 soccer field and a full-size lacrosse field. Fields can be rented from the city. The park also has a bleachers, a shade covered playground, restroom, and water fountain. Like all of the parks in Pinecrest, this park is clean and well maintained. Teams who come to practice and families who want to kick a ball around with the kids are the most frequent visitors to this serene park.
