I never knew this massive park was tucked into a residential neighborhood just a few blocks off of Lincoln Road in South Beach. Residents most likely prefer it that way. Ninety-five percent of the people who use this park live in the neighborhood but I stumbled on it while looking for Lincoln Road parking. Flamingo Park is located in the historic Flamingo Park section of South Beach. It is one of Miami Beach's oldest parks dating back to the 1950. The land the park sits on was once part of the old Flamingo Golf Course, an amenity for Carl Fisher's grand hotel built in 1921 on the Biscayne side of the beach. The northern end of today's park and Lincoln Rod was a polo field. Carl Fisher lost his fortune in the crash of 1929 and ended his life in a modest cottage on the beach. The hotel was demolished in 1955 and replaced by the Flamingo South Beach Apartments. The golf course was destroyed on Sep. 18, 1926 by Category 4 hurricane called The Big Blow. On December 2, 1926, the owners of the Flamingo Golf Course turned over the property to the City of Miami Beach. That same year permission was granted to put a baseball diamond on The Flamingo Golf Course. In April 1929, the Miami News reported that the City of Miami Beach purchased Flamingo Park for $300,000. Eventually an open air theater and six tennis courts were added. In the ensuing years the park was used for boxing matches. A theater built in the park in 1932 has since been demolished and forgotten as has the art shows, Easter egg hunts, and elephant rides that were once held in the park. Flamingo Field was used for spring training by the New York Giants from 1934-1935, the Philadelphia Phillies from 1940-1942 and 1946, and the Pittsburg Pirates in 1947. The field was also home to the minor league Miami Beach Tigers in 1940. Today the baseball field is adjacent to a soccer field. The park also has a new tennis center with 17 clay courts. From 1947 to 1998 the tennis center was home to the Orange Bowl International Tennis Championships where John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg played as juniors. Other park amenities include a shaded outdoor fitness zone, swimming pool, a football field and track, basketball courts, handball courts, restrooms, and two dog parks. There is an ADA accessible playground for 2-5 year old and 5-12 year old with play structures like a rock wall, swings, and spring riders. The Police Athletic gym and children's after school structure is within the park, as well as a new structure housing the county's Boys and Girls Club. This park has long been a center of community and recreation for South Beach. With its variety of play and exercise options it will continue to bring recreational enjoyment to future generations.

Flamingo Park Is a 36 acre park located in the heart of South Beach. It has a soccer/football field with a bleacher building, press box, concession stand and restrooms. The Flamingo Park Tennis Center have 17 tennis courts. The Aquatic Center have a lap pool and kids pool. This beautifully landscaped state-of-the-art aquatic facility features two separate pool areas. The main pool features a lap pool that are aerated in the summer and heated in the winter to maintain a 79 - 84 degree temperature. The water playground is a zero to 15 inch depth interactive/play pool. The aquatic facility offers locker rooms with showers, lounge chairs and sunbrellas. The pools also offer birthday party rentals, learn to swim classes and specialty camps throughout the year. The Dog bark park consists of two separate dog areas available for your dogs. One area is opened at a time in order to continuously serve the users. It also have a baseball stadium, basketball courts, raquetball courts, running track, softball field and a kids playground. It is open every day from sunrise to 10pm. .

First is first: NO there are no flamingos spotted here even though when I googled it some photos popped up with flamingos. It's a nice park to play sports at or walk around and enjoy the fresh air. I walked by a baseball game, a tennis match, a couple people walking, a few sitting and jokingly told me all the flamingos are long gone and I might be able to find some in the everglades. Beautiful line of palm trees and cool looking trees with interesting trunks.

Visited the pool at flamingo park. One of the cooler days and the water was just too cold for the kids to bare it. The kiddie pool is great, I think they should add a life guard to the kiddie pool because the one lifeguard that is there can't see the opposite side. Great place to work on laps and doesn't seem to be too full. The playground outside is great too. Big area and under shade. Gotta love that!

This is the end all spot in South Beach. Anybody living here or spending quality time in the area should be taking advantage of its amenities... Playgrounds for the kids, a pool & mini water park that is free for residents, low cost tennis courts, basketball courts, a track area, baseball & soccer fields, a community center and gym... It really has it all... And staying active is what South Beach is all about.

This is the best park in South Miami Beach, centrally located right in the middle of it all. Flamingo Park is fully equipped with anything you could hope for, a tennis center, community pool, soccer field, baseball field, basketball courts, racket ball court, handball, huge playground, track and field, the best part, two large enclosed dog parks. We come to this park daily with our dog so he can play frisbee and run off some energy. I tried playing with a boomerang here, ended up running from it. Clearly I need lessons on how to catch them. When that thing comes flying back at you it is absolutely terrifying, I took off running the other direction. Nonetheless, it's a fabulous park to spend the day being active.

Park, pool, and beach walking distance can spend most of the day outdoors with the family here. Pool offers a concession stand and you can bring your own snacks. Locker area allows you to change clothes & wash up if doing something after ++

Love warming up on the wall before tennis.

Douglas was an author and environmentalist whose seminal book The Everglades: River of Grass brought awareness to the importance of this ecosystem preserving it from development. She worked with Ernest Coe to have the Everglades named a National Park. Douglas was a tireless champion for the environment and so it seems appropriate that a number of parks have been named in her honor, including this beach park in Miami Beach. The Marjory Stoneman Douglas Ocean Beach Park has a limited number of metered spaces along the street. Parking can be frustrating depending on how busy the park is. It is worth the effort though because the park is a leafy green oasis filled with tall shade trees. As I was walking around I couldn't help but notice the trees were filled with squeaky Monk Parakeets. The centerpiece of the park is an enclosed, large, shade covered playground with poured in place surface surrounded by benches. There are two play sections, one for ages 2-5, and one for ages 5-12. The playground has slides and climbing structures. Other park amenities include a shower, restrooms, and a water fountain. Surrounding the park are large paved paths ideal for walking and biking. The park offers direct beach access and at the perimeter you can pick up an electric City Bike which I think is the best and most fun way to see South Beach and avoid the parking headache. With the playground, beach, and all the other amenities, this is a great place for a family outing.

You still have to pay for parking. I recommend the parking lot next door. The Pirate Park Playground was built by Superior Playgrounds who was tasked with designing a one-of-a-kind pirate theme play space to spark creative play and provide a safe place for budding buccaneers to play. The playground is made of recycled material like milk jugs and was created to be corrosion resistant so that it would always look good in this salt water coastal ecosystem. Located only 100 feet from the beach, the playground is fenced in for safety. There is a large pirate ship for older children to climb on and slide down and a smaller area for younger privateers. The crows nest with rigging looked especially fun to climb. Other playground play structures include clownfish and blue tang fish spring riders, a custom octopus playhouse, and palm tree shade. There are four triangle sail shades and poured-in-place safety surfacing to protect little knees and bottoms. Bathrooms are nearby. During my visit the playground was filled with kids and their families enjoying the nautical theme. This unique play space fosters imagination and physical movement for the youngest North Beach residents and visitors.

Maurice was a member of the seven time Grammy award winning musical group the Bee Gees. He liked to take in the view from the park and the group recorded at Criteria Studios now the Hit Factory in North Miami in the late 70's and early 80's. Maurice also lived in the area. His former home sold for 13 million in 2012. In 2007, the year the name change took place at the park, it received $75,000 worth of improvements including landscaping and a three ring mosaic that was created by artist Dale Bryant. It was added to the park near the sea wall. The yellow ring represents peace, red is love, and blue is tranquility. The park was rededicated in a ceremony attended by members of Maurice Gibb's family. Tributes to Maurice Gibb are small in the park. Besides the ring on the southeast corner of the park there is a small granite carving with his name and there is a plaque outside the playground. In March of this year, the park reopened with two upgraded scenic lookout areas over Biscayne Bay, a green space, a brand new music-themed playground, a new dog park, fishing pier, shade structures, pavilion, outdoor seating, walking paths and additional native trees and shrubs. A living shoreline was created to minimize coastal erosion while creating a natural habitat for fish, aquatic plants, and wildlife. There park has 30 spots in the lot and you have to pay at the kiosk or through the phone app. Additionally there are also a few street spots, also pay by app. The main attraction of this park is the stunning water front view. You can sit on a bench and watch the mega yachts sail by. On the southern end of the park is a wooden boardwalk providing a view of the Venetian causeway. You can launch a kayak from the park to Flagler Monument Island. It is about a 15 minute paddle from here. This park is the perfect place to take in the view of Biscayne Bay and enjoy being outside in the beautiful Florida sunshine.
