I filled out the info, paid by credit card, and about a week later, received the motorcycle tag... but not the one for my BMW. After calling Florida Tag Registration, they confirmed the motorcycle renewal but couldn't explain why the car didn't go through (apparently the state uses a third-party system). I was asked to check with my credit card company to see if a refund had been issued and to try again. I followed instructions and resubmitted payment to only to get the same result. At that point, I decided to visit Tropical Auto Tag Agency in person. Gotta say, from the moment I walked in, the process was smooth. I did a quick digital check-in, and less than 15 minutes later, a helpful staff member had my renewal processed. Amazing service, quick, clean, and professional. I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 because, unlike the $85 I paid online, I was hit with an agency fee and a credit card fee, costing me an extra $25. Years ago, credit card fees were just part of doing business vendors didn't pass that cost on to the customer. Maybe I'm old-school, but when businesses tack on card fees, it feels like a penalty. That said, I still highly recommend this agency for its speed, efficiency, and top-notch service. Just be aware of the added fees.

The truth is, with the advent of online services, it's not necessary to visit in person as often as before. In fact, it had been eight years since my last visit. However, I recently sold one of my cars and needed to transfer a personalized license plate to my BMW, so I decided to head over on a rainy day, hoping it wouldn't be as busy as I remembered. To my delight, when I arrived, the place was empty--yes, you read that correctly. There were five or six employees behind the counter but zero customers. I was warmly greeted by a very friendly security guard at the door and then proceeded to the counter. Remarkably, this place is exactly as I remembered it; nothing has changed in all these years, not the employees, not even the color of the paint on the walls. The employees were all very friendly and attentive, and my tag transfer was completed in less than 10 minutes. It's amazing to see that there are currently 120 specialty plates available in Florida in support of various organizations, including state colleges, universities, and sports teams. Overall, the Hammocks Auto Tag Agency served its purpose efficiently and effectively. While I may not need to return for another eight years, I'm glad it's there and how quickly I was taken care of this time. Highly recommend!

There was also no clear information online that this location is appointment-only and does not accept walk-ins. Even after explaining that I had driven over an hour to get there and they can see that my driver license address is not from this county, there was no effort to assist or provide guidance, which felt very dismissive and unwelcoming. If this location closes earlier than advertised or does not accept walk-ins, the website should clearly state that so people don't waste their time driving long distances. The lack of communication and guest service here was very disappointing.
