The dental hygienists and front desk staff are friendly, gentle, and kind. Dr. Allen is very personable and helps you understand what is going on in your mouth. The new building is really gorgeous. I was lucky enough to go there once after they redid it a few years back. It's very homey feeling. I really miss being a patient there, but I've since moved out of state and cannot drive to Kzoo just for a dentist appointment! I like that they still have the 'no cavity club' - of course these days all the pictures are digital and on the website - when I was a kid they took a polaroid of us and pinned it up in the waiting room. :) If you're lucky enough to go to Dr. Allen, I envy you!

They can give exact amount of what you are billed but, BUT EXPLAIN "you should get reimbursed from insurance company "delta". If you continue to question... you get the same information repeated, OVER AND OVER!!! Then you will be called "rude" because you want to know what's covered, what you have to pay. They don't care. They get sarcastic, condescending, stuff like "you want to speak to Michelle?" "You want me to call delta insurance?" of which they do neither. Then "we won't see you, blah, blah blah. They laugh at you and do NOTHING of what's been asked. Nor do they check with "delta" nor get anyone else to help. They enjoy useless word salad responses that don't help and endless "you're rude!" When they don't help. My suggestion? DON'T GO THERE!!! Save yourself useless FRUSTRATION! If you go there... merely ask "what's this going to cost?". I firmly believe his bedside manner, attention to detail, and dental work are truly impeccable, and I appreciated his clinical care during my previous visits over the years. During my most recent visit though, things had changed. I was told by the hygienist, Lyndi, that a panoramic X-ray was "required by law" to maintain their license, with implied risk if refused. No such Michigan law exists--regulations cover equipment safety only, not mandating patient imaging (per LARA-Licensing and Regulatory Affairs and Michigan Dental Association). My low-risk profile (excellent hygiene, no cavities in years, healthy gums, recent normal bitewings) showed no clinical need. ADA 2026 guidelines require panoramic only when necessary, to minimize radiation, not routinely. When I raised the issue feeling misled about Timberview losing their license, the hygienist called in the office manager who was beyond rude, defensive, interrupted repeatedly by obscuring and pivoting to "our standard of care," then asked my opinion of their standard. I said it felt revenue-driven rather than evidence-based. She immediately told me to leave. This was gaslighting: obscuring the obvious falsehood with vague "patient care standards" and punishing honest feedback with abrupt dismissal. Deceptive communication and unprofessional handling erode trust. Patients deserve transparency, not pressure and deflection. Unfortunately the unprofessional conduct of the office manager--particularly her repeated interruptions, twisting of the initial misleading statement, dismissive attitude, and abrupt decision to ask me to leave after I shared my honest opinion--has eroded my trust in the practice as a whole. Despite my high regard for Dr. Cohrs' skills and care, this experience will unfortunately prevent me from returning. Perhaps the business/name change to Timberview Dental has caused the business to now become profit driven over patient care driven. Be VERY careful about agreeing to unnecessary procedures that are lining their pockets.

They got me in within 2 hours of calling. The building is adorable and located in a woodsy area so that you can watch wildlife outside as you sit in the chair. They have cutting edge, mind blowing technology with their own lab that make the crowns while you wait. No need to make temporaries and return later for the permanents. I can't begin to say how impressed I was by the service! I thought the bill would be really high given how many things were done over more than 90 minutes. I got out for a tiny fraction of what I expected!!! I am thrilled to have found this practice!

His treatment plan was almost $6,000 out of pocket. I got a second d opinion from another dentist who said the bridge was not broken and cemented it back on. There was no charge because insurance covered it. Needless to say, I have found a new dentist and will not be returning to Drake Dental.

In short, her way or the highway. On May 27th, during my regular cleaning services, a small cavity was found by the hygienist and later confirmed after a full mouth X-ray evaluation. Before the X-ray, I was assured that the procedure was necessary and fully covered by my dental insurance. I asked about that not once by twice to make sure my understanding was correct. A surprise came when I was presented with a bill and additional payments. It turned out that four different X-ray pictures were taken but only two were fully covered. A greater surprise came when I wanted to scheduled an appointment to get a needed filing for the tooth with cavity. I was informed that I must take a panoramic X-ray, required every 3 years (?) and pay for that in full before I could get any new service, including the now very much needed filling. There was no way to negotiate to get the filling now and, possibly, the panoramic X-ray before my new October scheduled cleaning. I was denided that which I find very unethical, unprofessional and very wrong. I have to quickly find a new dentist to get very much needed filling now when my cavity keeps deteriorating.

Dr. Ellard prescribed antibiotics which didn't ultimately work. He had been following up with me personally by phone and text through that weekend (including Sunday!). As we talked, he determined that I would need an extraction and he immediately made calls to his staff members and rounded up the crew needed to do the emergency extraction the following day. A day when they were closed due to the corona virus mandatory shut down. We determined also that an implant would be the best fix for the problem in the long run and he was able to do all the other procedures needed to start that process also. (Ct scan etc.). The insurance benefits were handled and the work on my mouth got done. I can't express how lucky I felt that my dentist was able to complete all this work and create such a comprehensive plan for treatment over a weekend and during the shut down. What do other people do who's dentists can't or don't go through these measures? Mouth pain is all encompassing and hardly bearable for most! Every member of Dr Ellard's team is so knowledgeable and know exactly what to do in every instance. A well-oiled machine,always.
