Decided to make some updates to my very dated bathrooms and needed to change the 1960 exhaust fans. After doing a little research I landed with Kemly. I had a very good experience with with them as the electrician was very knowledgeable of this process, the options that were available and once he got into the ceiling the challenges that needed to be addressed. Mike showed me the original shoddy installation of the duct work and gave me options on how to make this new installation work and also proceed in the future to have roofer come out and correct the issues. He took pictures of the areas and gave me instructions on what to tell the roofer. He didn't have to do this but I really appreciated his professionalism and honesty. I came away with the feeling that he is someone I could trust. All in all I am very happy with the results and I am going to use Kemly again in the near future of other projects that are coming down the pike. read more

I needed to upgrade my 125 amp electrical panel as I was out of space to add another EV charger. Most electrical companies seem to add an "EV" tax onto your estimate when they hear that you're doing anything with an EV. Got a couple quotes that were astronomical to upgrade my panel. Then I found Kemly through some local Reddit thread of people talking about how they went about doing their panel upgrades. I reached out and got a very realistic and competitive quote to do a panel upgrade. Chris did my assessment and gave me several options, which I appreciated. He was super knowledgable and down to earth. Nice that there was no pressure to do any option. My project was a bit more extensive because my PUD required me to replace my meter as well. Again, Chris provided a decent and competitive price to do this. Through it all, the project was done in a decent timeline with very competitive prices. I've worked with Kemly 4 times now and every single time, they've been excellent. The first time around we needed a hot tub circuit installed on our rooftop. Kemly did a great job and we haven't had any problems with it. The second time we were installing an EV charger. Since the house was hitting the limits of it's 100 amp service, most electrical companies said that we can't install the EV charger without upgrading the entire service to the house. Kemly was able to install a smart load shedding device that cuts power to the EV charger whenever the rest of the house uses too much power. This way we were able to avoid having to upgrade the service and saved a TON of money. We haven't had any problems with the setup during the years since. The third time around we used Kemly to do a bunch of upgrades on our new house. They did a smart panel change, added some ceiling lights, added an EV charger, hot tub circuit and a induction range circuit. They were also able to run a wire to our crawl space for a future basement conversion project so we wouldn't have to run more wires through the walls in the future. The fourth time we had a problem with a floating neutral on our wall oven circuit. Kemly's electrician was able to pretty quickly diagnose the issue, find the loose circuit in the crawl space and fix the wiring. Every time they've been punctual, done a super high quality job and have been open to adding little pieces of work here and there as they've come up. This is a long overdue review as Kemly has been a trusted go-to resource for many years now. My first interaction with them was a complete home re-wire on my 1926 craftsman. I called 5 electricians and only 2 actually produced a bid. They were within rounding distance of each other so I just went with the one I felt most comfortable with. They replaced & relocated the breaker box and replaced all older wiring. As with many homes, mine was actually a mix of modern and knob and tube wiring. They inspected everything and gave me feedback/the option of what needed to be replaced and what was acceptable to leave (i.e. studs remodel of kitchen from just a couple of years prior). They also were realistic about adding/relocating outlets and other little add-ons later. They kept me regularly up to date as to how the project was progressing and left the jobsite clean at the end of each workday. They accidentally broke the glass door of my oven while moving it and immediately ordered & installed a replacement without skipping a beat. (Accidents happen, and I appreciate that they just "owned" it and fixed it with no hassle) A few months later, I needed an EV charger installed on the exterior of my home. They came by, listened to what I needed, and worked with me to formulate a functional plan. When I needed to have a dining room light swapped out, I got on the waiting list for Kemly. They were booking 3-4 weeks out. But, as my job was small they called and got me in the very next week. They do have a 1 (or 2?) hour minimum so I asked if they could take a look at my under-counter lighting which had been on the fritz. Turns out the contractor who installed it used some janky wiring that hadn't held up well. They were able to fix the issue in about 15 minutes. Let there be light! Kemly is always a class act. They show up on time. Do what they say they will. Provide accurate quotes/estimates and take care of your home while they are here. There might be cheaper options out there but Kemly is a local, family owned company, who I know does great work. They've certainly earned my loyalty over the years. read more

Kemly Electric recently completed a knob and tube decommission and home rewire (including new outlets, lights, car charger, fixtures, and fans). We are very grateful that we ultimately went with them to perform this work and are really happy with the outcome. Specifically, the work was completed by Tim (estimator/project manager) and Paul and Peik (active electricians). The work performed was very clean, detailed, and professional. Cut holes were minimal, dust was nearly non-existent at the end of the day, and communication was easy and clear. We were prepared to have a home that was a dusty mess and resembled a piece of Swiss cheese at the end of all this but that is really not the case. They were even able to avoid damage to the half-wall wood paneling in our basement. I'm glad this is done, but if we had to do it again we would absolutely go with Kemly. read more

I hired Kemly to rewire my upstairs for a kitchen remodel and remove all knob and tube wiring present in my house. Work was done on time, they did a great job cleaning up, and any change orders that I made a long the way were reasonable and respected. While Kemly was not the cheapest I was very impressed by the thoroughness of understanding the project scope during the bid. When bidding this work to other electricians I had the problem of them being very nonchalant about scope which turned me off. read more

They were very helpful in figuring out how to run the new line without having to chop down the large Western Hemlock nearby and they gave us a thorough explanation for the work they would be doing. Their work was done in a reasonable time period and we were consulted on any issues where a decision needed to be made. I'm so pleased with the folks at Kemly. I own an old house, and the previous owners were horrible DIY types who did awful electrical work. So a simple electrical job, like replacing light fixtures, can get very complicated when you discover that the old fixtures were installed with badly positioned boxes behind them. The folks from Kemly quickly came up with several possible solutions, and were able to explain the advantages and disadvantages of each one. Bottom line: I was able to choose a solution that worked for me, my new lights got installed, and I'll need to do a bit of extra drywall work. I needed a commercial rated electrician to run wiring for a heat pump at the building of a non-profit I volunteer for. Adam, the owner, came out to do the estimate and he was very helpful and careful in explaining what they would do. When they came to do the job I was very pleased that although I had agreed to patch any holes they needed to make while running the wire from the panel to the outside, they were able to fish the wire through the ceiling using the ceiling lights as access points and completed the job without me needing to do any repair work. The person who came out to build the estimate met with my partner, and when I had questions, the folks in the office got the right answers for me. Gabe and Marquise did the work on the house. They were delightful humans and very careful about the work. They were very thoughtful about communicating what would need to be done, where, and when. For example, when they understood I was worried about dust, they offered to put up plastic sheeting to keep anything from getting inside the rest of the house, and the work area was clean when they were done. I didn't end up going with them. This is a review for my communication with the estimator, David Otonicar. He was on time, professional, knowledgeable, and answered our questions while in person. Once he left he was singularly focused on writing up the contract. First email - David: "just checking in regarding the count of switches that you would like to bid on replacing." I had told him I didn't want to do this cause the cost. I repeated this and asked a couple clarifying questions. He didn't answer. He just sent me a contract, which had on it another job we said we didn't need. This went back and forth, me asking questions, him responding with a new contract. I wasn't getting the clarification I needed to decide what to include/exclude from the contract. One item I asked about multiple times. 4th and final contract: Kill one live existing baseboard heating conductor, exchange the place of two switches that right next to each other, and kill two live outlets. The quote was over $700. The costs weren't itemized, which I know a lot of businesses like these don't do, but I felt like I was really in the dark. In short, my guess is their cost is pretty competitive. Maybe on the slightly higher end but since my jobs were so small and for cosmetic reasons alone, I didn't feel like they had the time, patience, or energy to deal with me outside of squeezing as much money out of me as they could. Having worked with many contractors through the years, I don't think this is unusual but it would have been nice to get my questions answered. read more

Part of the reason I went with Kemly to replace our old breaker and garage lights was because during the quote inspection, they talked me through what the process would be like instead of just listing what needed to be fixed. As someone still learning about home repair, I greatly appreciated that they took the time to explain WHY certain things had to be addressed and how. And I'm so glad I went with them. Casey and Jonathan did a great job with organizing the wiring and replacing the lights in the garage and with replacing our old Zinsco breaker and globe meter. They kept me up-to-date on what they were doing throughout the day without my asking and let me know what the plan was for the next day when they were leaving. They kept up good humor (by evidence of their laughter and shaking of heads) in trying to map all of the breakers given that the old owners did some of their own work and didn't label the old breakers correctly. Although the service wasn't terrible, the rates are outlandish. They installed 2 Nest outdoor Cameras. Pretty straightforward job, but they left jagged holes in the drywall. Not a very clean job. They charged us $225+tax. 7 months later the Nest stopped working and we troubleshooted it on our own. When we called we explained that we thought it was the cord and wanted them to come out and fix it. They came out and performed the same steps we did and said "yep it's the cord. Sorry we don't have a cord." even though we provided the info prior to the appointment, explaining what we had done already (replaced camera, tested outlet, tested power adapter). He was there 30 minutes tops, according to our 1 remaining working Nest camera, and said he would come back and fix it when we got a cord. All good until I got an invoice 2 days later for $225 plus tax. I was told that I'd have to pay another $130 to get the cord run through two holes. So that's $355+ tax to fish a cord through existing holes. Then...when I disputed the rate, which involved two phone calls and 30 more minutes of debate, I got the bill down to $135 for one hour of work, despite him not being there an hour. They said I was paying for his travel time (the company is less than a mile from me) and cord research (it took me 5 mins on Amazon to get this "special cord"). It's not over though. Later that night they sent me a revised invoice from the initial install that I had paid 7 months ago, saying, "Sorry, we undercharged you last year. Please pay $168 more dollars--we gave you 10% off." I couldn't believe what I was reading. No company who wants to stay in business does this. Update We decided to replace the cord ourselves and it took 15 minutes. The advice is don't do business with them unless you understand and are willing to pay $500 to install $200 equipment. read more

We had Mike as our electrician for a repair and he was excellent. I particularly appreciated that he called before he left the shop which is in Lynnwood to make sure that he had the right parts. It's $275 for an hour of time which is pricey but isn't everything involving electricians and plumbers these days so I don't think their pricing is too far out of line with the Seattle area which is very, very expensive to live in. I felt the estimate was about right. Kemly also worked to help us save a $2,300 Seattle City Light power shut-off fee. That took an extra trip to the house. That effort was really appreciated. The electricans on the job were personable, knowledgeable and efficient. The Kemly back office support with permits and job coordination was excellent. One thing I appreciated on this project was that Kemly completed the work in a short period of time, from start through the final inspection. That's a sign of a well-organized company.
