You want cheap, dishonest, and rude? This is the place for you. Otherwise, look elsewhere. I spoke to Anthony at first about replacing my Mercedes battery, and he quoted me a good price for turning in my old battery and promised that he would program the new battery to the car's computer when they installed it. When I called back today and spoke to the owner, he quoted me a slightly higher price at first, then told me that they actually don't program the new battery to the car -- that it's not necessary to do that and does nothing. I wanted to make sure that I wasn't harming my car, so I simply asked why Mercedes told me that it was very important/necessary to do that. He said that they were just trying to get me to buy from them. To confirm I wasn't harming my car, I asked "But what does programming the car do?" And he abruptly said "This isn't going to work. You're not my kind of customer." -- then hung up on me. Incredibly rude. I looked it up and found that the programming makes sure that the car recognizes the new battery to ensure it functions properly, makes sure that it monitors the battery's health, optimizes the power usage/efficiency, avoids electrical issues (ie: warning lights, improper charging, even damage to electrical components). It also ensures that the vehicle's service records are updated, so we're covered for future warranty claims, etc. And it ensures that the car's alternator adjusts its output based on the battery's condition and load requirements, to ensure optimal charging. Maybe these are small issues to him and he thought I didn't need to worry about them. But I should be told the truth about what the battery programming does to make my decision. I may have still gone forward with the battery if he told me the truth. But he didn't. He lied. Or, just as bad, he didn't know the purpose of programming the battery/potential problems of not doing it. And then he hung up on me after rudely dismissing my concerns completely. Cheap, dishonest, and rude. He's right about one thing. I'm definitely not his kind of customer. read more

I purchased a battery 4 months ago. Replaced 2 months in after 2 more months went bad again. Refused to replace battery was supposably new with 24 month warranty. Then said he would give me my money back. Minus $20.00 first said it was restock fee. Then changed and said it was core fee even though he kept my old core. read more

These guys are awesome every time I come here. You try to turn the car on, it doesn't turn on, and you just hope and pray that it's just a bad battery. Make sure Kem is open and get a jump start and drive straight here. I've gotten batteries here for 3 different cars over the past few years and only once did one of them did not last more than a few months and I came back and they replaced it under warranty. There are two Kem Battery places less than a quarter mile apart. The one that's more West of the other is run by Sarkis, a guy who has bad customer service and over-charges on batteries. I was quoted $35 for a Mercedes battery with a core. The core I provided was a first-rate Varta battery sold by Mercedes for over $275. The battery had just gone bad over the years and I decided to go with a used one rather than forking over serious loot for a battery that would give me a good seven years of service. Kem Battery West wanted $55 for a Mercedes battery, including a core. I looked at the AC Delco battery he offered me, and it looked good and passed the battery test machine (although I know better than to trust one battery tester--you need three different tests to determine the quality of a battery). I decided to see if the other Kem Battery East was still there. Guess what, the original location was still there and still running. I walked up to the bench and the Mexican dude who worked there found me an AGM battery for my Mercedes. As you know AGM batteries are much better, last longer, and are maintenance-free. He gave me a near-new looking AGM battery in the correct group size for my car, for $30 including core, and he also gave me a 6-month warranty. A warranty I won't be needing, because I daily drive the Mercedes that this battery is going into, and it will be constantly re-charged from driving. The only reason I gave up on that Varta battery I traded in, was because every home-brew method of recharging didn't work. I used my trusty Schumacher Battery Extender (one of the best rechargers on the market right now) on this battery for over week, doing the disconnect/reconnect method over and over. The best I could do was get it to charge to about 25% of its capacity. Not even Kragen/O'Reilly's professional heavy-duty recharger/tester could bring this battery back to life. So it was time to replace it. At any rate, my newer Mercedes is running perfectly with the near-new AGM battery supplied to me by Kem battery. Remember that places like this will at first always try to give you the battery that they 'touch the first' in the correct group size. I had a group 49 battery, and so the first one they could find in their inventory, they brought it out to me. Don't be afraid to tell these folks that the battery they show you, just doesn't look new or doesn't look good. Tell them to show you another and another, until you see one that looks new. Then have them do a load test on it. Like I said before the load test is not a sure-fire way to know if a battery is good, but these guys do provide that 6-month warranty. You can't expect a used battery to last more than two years though, unless you daily drive the car or put it on a float-charger. If you have a lot of cars, and you don't drive some of them, you need to be float-charging the batteries to maintain the charge. The model and brand I recommended above is the best for that job. And for $30 plus your old battery, you can't beat that price for an AGM battery. Look up AGM versus Lead-Acid batteries and decide what's best for your car, then ask a place like this if they can hook you up with an AGM battery. Although AGM's cost much more brand new, to a place like this, a battery is a battery is a battery, and they won't charge you more (until they catch on to that fact) PS. I used to go to 'The Battery Station' in Sun Valley prior to going to Kem Battery. Now Battery Station charges $45 for their batteries including core, and the owner is a mean, mean guy you want to avoid. read more

BAD BATTERY. Worse customer service! This company does not stand by their products. I bought a battery on 11/3/21. On 11/12/21 it was dead to the point it could not even be jumped. I figured it must be the alternator and took it to the mechanic. It wasn't. Everything was fine other than the battery. I took it to Kem and they won't refund my money. Scam guys sold me a battery in aug 18, battery died on me . Went to get it replaced because it was still under warranty. When they looked at the battery they asked me what i needed. I told them a replacement since its still under warranty. Once they seen that it was about to expire. They told me they didnt sale me the battery . That they dont put red stickers on their batteries, but they have a roll of red sticker right infront of me . Why sale batteries if ur going to cheat people on warranty. This place came as a recommendation from a friend of mine who provides vehicles for the motion picture industry. I was looking for a battery to replace the one in my leased 3.5 year-old Toyota Highlander. So I wanted something reliable, but inexpensive. Kem Battery-Shalom made the process easy, even removing the old battery and replacing it with "used" battery for $30. (oddly, they have a sign that states they don't install batteries, but there would've been no way for them to get the old battery core if they didn't!) I also could've bought a new battery from them -- I just wanted something to hold me over until my next lease. The care involved with installing the battery was as detailed as if I would've done it myself. So nice, so professional. This place is the best. I've been going there on and off with different cars, for the last 10 years or so. They never fail to provide a good, strong battery at a reasonable price. Even the couple of times I bought used ones just to tie me over for a while, they worked well. Doesn't matter that the place isn't clean and appealing, and barely any parking, the people that work there are nice and efficient.
