My family and I came here to watch wolverine and Deadpool. The theater definitely looks older historically speaking, but not necessarily updated. However, that is not what's important. What's important is the food was really good. I love being able to have a table in front of me at my seats and having them bring pizza and pitcher of beer to us. The staff is super nice and I love the food.

I was there last night for the annual showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. It was a blast. This is the first time in decades I have seen this movie at a venue where it was allowed for all the props. Kind feel sorry for the staff as I'm sure they had a mess to clean up. The seating was comfortable, I had slice of some great tasting pizza. They have quite an array to choose from. Staff was over the top friendly and it was a great experience. About a hour before the show they had " the Virgins" get up on stage and do some adult themed stunts. I'm really glad that I decided to check it out. I will be back to see movies there in the future. I do enjoy supporting the old style theaters.

Came here from Vancouver to watch a locally produced movie & give some community support. Kelso isn't Portland & vis-a-vis, so comparing the theater to one in a city with some of the best in the world when so many micro brews are there as well is pretty silly, in my opinion. Keeping this in mind is how I'm approaching this. Judging the seats by their looks would be a mistake. They are the old metal backed chairs with wooden arm rests, however they must have been restuffed as they are comfy & the row I was in leaned back. As far as the arm rests they are extra wide; maybe made out of 1x4's, so the person next to you can use the rest as well. Almost all of the rows had tables in front of them, so you can order pizza, sandwiches or salad to eat while watching. I had the Cowboy which was pulled pork with waffle fries...I mean awful fries. The pork with pineapple was fine, but the fries were limp & rather tasteless. I'm gonna dock 'em for that, because the smallest greasy spoon should be able to make fires not just the brew pubs in Portland...Fries are a staple at a theater pub! They had a selection of soda, beer, water & wine available but I went safe with a Thomas Kemper Root Beer. The diner next door, which I'm assuming is connected in someway as it's called Backstage Cafe looked interesting & the next time I'm in town if I remember I shall give it a try. I really don't know what other options are available to the local Kelso area for anything like this, but it's pretty good.

It's expensive but you're paying for the experience and I'd say it's worth it once in a while. I saw 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple here, kind of a weird choice for a movie theatre where you eat dinner- it was pretty gnarly. The good: -couches/comfy seating -actual food -friendly staff -neat atmosphere The less good but not necessarily bad: -having to wait to be brought to the theatre by a host -much more expensive than a regular movie theatre -no cherry coke (but they do offer a Roy Rodgers) -the popcorn is REALLY buttery which is cool if you're into that but I was overwhelmed by the sogginess

Simple expectations - good service, good food, good product, good experiences. In the world of service, that isn't difficult to provide. To get a 1-star review from me takes actual WORK. I must say, Studio One Theaters absolutely earned in every-single-way, this review. Let's start with purchasing tickets online. The platform is poor. The tickets are double the cost of any other small local theater. By the time you get to the purchase page, you're total will double in fees. They don't give you a confirmation number... you just have to assume your purchase went through. No confirmation email, nothing. The only way I knew I had made a purchase was by the charge on my credit card. The parking situation is poor. I was fortunate that I found a spot but the overall parking lot situation is a nightmare. We got stuck for 10+ minutes trying to leave, we finally escaped through an alley way. Alright, let's get to the actual experience. We arrived a bit early hoping to get our seats early or enjoy a drink at the bar. We stood around for 10 minutes while staff ignored us. Three behind the bar, one behind the register, two random floaters. They didn't as much as acknowledge our existence. After one of them finally got off the phone, we were acknowledged and told we needed to wait. We took a seat at the bar. I ordered a 10oz wine that was served in a tiny 8oz glass. The metal-and-glass bar was noticably dirty, the dust was thick on the shelves of the bar overhead. We were promptly ignored by the staff, only to get their attention when it was time to tab-out. Approximately 30 minutes before the movie, we were finally granted access to the theater. The manager invited us to the theater we had tickets for. We were then held hostage as we slowly crawled down the hallway while we were tormented with his pre-scripted speech. It started much like the disney script of "we have 45 members of our cast and crew" that work here 24/7 and 365. First, leave disney's script to disney (left lower-case so the review doesn't get flagged). None of the sales pitch was believable. This is a tiny little theater in Portland... the big-brand theaters don't even employ that many people per / theater. Much less, could any reasonable person believe that a theater has chefs and staff that work 24/7 at a theater open Monday-Friday from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM and Saturday-Sunday from 8:30 AM to 11:00 PM. Doesn't even make sense. Then, out came the iPad pics of mediocre food he was trying hard to sell. No thanks. Once seated, our waiter appeared to take our orders. We asked for a few minutes to review the menu. The prices were outrageous. That's a difficult comment to get out of me... price doesn't matter when the product stands behind it's value... this however, immediately felt off. The waiter felt impatient and pushy. The minute we didn't order a ridiculously overpriced alcoholic beverage, he was done with us. He did return 10 minutes later, we resolved to a "medium" popcorn for $11 of which, was TERRIBLE. Honestly, I didn't know you could make bad popcorn. Studio One Theaters has BAD POPCORN. Tasteless, burnt, just awful. Once we ordered the popcorn, declined $30/ea appetizers and $40+/ea entrees, the waiter was done with us. He huffed away, never to return. The popcorn showed up, salt-less, cold, burnt, and tasteless. We pushed it around the weird metal bowl it came in and ultimately, gave up. The movie started and the talking started. First, everyone in the row behind us completely ignored the movie for the first 30-minutes. The water that had abandoned us completely and fully ignored us but had fog-horn volume conversations taking order, laughing, conversing, completely ignoring the movie that had just started. Then came the food. Orders being delivered, one after another on loud plates with chunky silverware. Nothing better than listening to spoons and forks scrape against plates while people conversed as though they were the only ones in the room... it then got worse... ...the people directly behind us decided to call the theater out on their less-than-mediocre menu. Everything they ordered was terrible, of which, we heard them very loudly and very clearly complaining to each other. When they complained to the waiter (mind you - WHILE the movie is playing!) he decided to argue before taking away the horrible food. THEN, making things even WORSE, here comes the manager. He decides to want a full narrative of what was wrong with the food and why. After a lengthy 5+ minute conversation, he then offered them more food, they declined because it was so bad. They left 1/2 way through the movie. The talking never stopped. Someone finally yelled out "shut up" near the end of the movie. People were rude. The staff was awful. The food and beverage was less than mediocre. This isn't worth a second try. Horrible.

    Venetian Hillsboro

    Venetian Hillsboro

    2.8(5 reviews)

How many times do you think the restaurant portion of this business has closed and reopened since…read morethe new owners took over the Venetian? The answer? A surprising number, even this year alone. The narrative around Downtown Hillsboro business has several villains. There's the city itself, which does absolutely nothing to help businesses half a block off of Main Street and considers simple implements like A-frame signage an affront to aesthetics--though city officials have publicly voiced their aspiration to have Main Street be more like NW 23rd Street in Portland, which is littered with said signs. And when it does intervene, it's often to do something outlandish like hand control of an entire arcade complex it owns to one business person and drive a dozen others out of the building. Speaking of landlords, the private owners do a fine job of spiking rents whenever there's a slight whiff of economic upturn and squashing any growth by pummeling margins and rendering storefronts regularly empty. Then there's the "Downtown Hillsboro Demographic"--not the Pacific students, young professionals, and parents who flock like dehydrated desert travelers to any new Oasis, but the doddering fossils who complain about any parking more than eight feet from their destination, any menu item with a slightly "ethnic" lilt to it, and any noise, temperature, or light reading that is a hair too high or too low for their liking. They wonder why downtown can't just be the pharmacy, a hardware store, a mortuary, nine dying barbers, and roughly 18 antique shops. But there there are the business owners, who are far more difficult to generalize because no one is like the other. You have a famed baker propping up a bakery, bagel shop, cooking school, seasonal cart pod, and winery space and adapting to every foolhardy left turn this town throws at her, market owners who've turned tables of local offerings and a little coffee counter into a small community of their own, a pub owner who's basically transformed a tweaked-out lottery bar into a gastropub with $95 bone-in ribeye and $18 seasonal cocktails, a theater company that's holding down a full schedule as well as event space and a film festival, a wine shop owner we basically stole from Downtown Portland who's tailored his knowledge and whole life to this town, and a pizzeria owner who provides not only downtown's most stable source of live music by a headquarters for its run club Then there are the businesses that close, and all for different reasons: 1. Sometimes, your pet store owner's family is going to move out of town. 2. Sometimes, your arcade owner has a very distinct vision of an 80s-only place that's generally 21+ with limited hours despite soaring rents and no pandemic aid. 3. Sometimes, your food cart owners want to help a landlord launch a local pod, but don't have the resources to hang around until the pub opens and the foot traffic follows. 4. Sometimes, you're a giant holding company bringing a heavy-metal pizza slice shop to a town still actively listening to Southern Rock on cassettes. 5. Sometimes, your cocktail menu, regional Mexican cuisine, signage, and portion of the upstairs seating just baffle the locals. But that isn't the case at the Venetian. No, The Venetian still likes to trot out a menu straight out of Oswego Grill and price the thing like a night out at Janken. It genuinely thinks that all of those Intel deep pockets want to come downtown and overspend on uninspired dishes and poorly curated tap and wine lists. Oh, and then you're going to argue to anyone who'll listen that nobody goes to Portland anymore. Well you know those Intel folks? Well, if they haven't been laid off, most of them actually live in Portland. Their homes in Irvington and the Pearl are featured in Oregonian articles. And those who live here? Well, I can say from experience that they have their car or their driver pull out of Fishback Creek or up in Helvetia, jump on 26 through the tunnel at around 5 and are home by 11. Pandemic's over, chuckles, and a table at Kann or Republica's not so easy to get to get anymore. That you've had to close the restaurant multiple times after nobody bit on $16 gin-and-cucumber and $40 steak frites tells me you haven't been reading up lately. So let me put it in terms you'll understand: Magna in Beaverton? Gone. Pip's Donuts? Gone. Big's Chicken? Gone. At least one of the Cedar Mill breweries from Portland? Also about to be gone. Unless you're a ChefsTable offering, nobody's bringing Portland out to the 'burbs anymore. It's frankly unsurprising that the one transplant that worked here, Backwoods, made a pub more akin to its Carson location that the one in the Pearl... because that's essentially who's here. The Venetian's continued failure to read the room with its restaurant isn't on Downtown Hillboro's leaders, landlords (in this case, the same folks), or patrons: It's on one owner who's absolutely refused to adapt the model.

A friend and I were shopping in downtown Hillsboro and wanted just a small bite. We stumbled across…read morethe Venetian for some ice tea and an appetizer. You guys - this is a hidden gem.
