We sometimes prefer a cocktail or a glass of wine with diner and will occasionally have a tap only Guinness with our meal. We expect good service because we do not wish to wait, as most of us don't, because we have our lives to live and for some reason, we have gotten quite used to delicious, hot food! lol. We enjoy smiling, and laughing as many of us do, so a friendly, polite, and efficient Server is a plus. For all of these reasons and especially because we don't always know what we feel like eating, we would like to recommend to you the British Open Pub in Bluffton, SC. Why? They are trying hard to improve, but you won't find too many residents just hanging out at the bar as you might have before. They used to have daily specials which they don't have anymore. In addition, if you look at their hours, they're missing out on any golfers who return to the clubhouse after 4 pm on Wednesday and Thursday. They're also completely missing out on any weekend dinner crowd by keeping bankers hours. I would suppose lunch and brunch is the only thing they specialize in. Most golfers check in early around 7-8 a.m. and might even grab a quick breakfast or load up on some beer for the course. Unfortunately you'd have to return at 9:30 a.m. if you want service. I'm hoping they'll improve and become a bit more customer focused and therefore more successful.

British Open Pub does not prepare squirrel, but they do great with liver and onions - the bacon is the secret. Travel tip: Elect a patio table for neat views and quiet. Our excellent server Jennifer continues the tradition of great service at BOP. BOP was one of first Sports Bar on the island. Small property is divided between bar and restaurant, but we recommend patio dining. Perhaps it has been some time since the owners experienced actual British dining.... Missing is the ever present chicken dinner; also we cannot recommend their version of French Onion soup (we recommend a visit to Chez George.)

NEGATIVES: 1) The wait for service after being seated was too long. 2) The server ghosted us after the meal was delivered. 3) The ribs were tough, and not up to the quality we consistently receive at the Bluffton location. 4) The sides were served haphazardly on the plate with one overlapping the other. 5) The pot pie's crust was badly overdone / burnt. The second delivery of the pot pie appeared to be the pot pie I sent back with the upper crust removed and a new one plopped on top. So, when I tried to remove the spoon that was stuck through the crust the entire thing came off the pie. 6) As we were nearing the completion of our meal we received multiple visits from the reception hostess and kitchen staff trying to remove plates from the table before we were finished. Again on the positive side, however, the waitress was very nice to us when it came time to pay the check.

Their pizza tasted good, their service was outstanding and we did not wait for our pizza. They offer a New York/Philly/New Jersey style pizza which is much thinner than a Chicago deep dish. They are located in an outdoor location, so sunshine and blue skies are your natural ambiance which we felt was a terrific change. They are only opened until 7:00 PM now, but in March they will begin closing at 8:00 PM. They were not crowed when we visited so we did not wait for a table. However, we would recommend you call first to check to ensure they have availability first, as we did. This restaurant is open to the public although, you do have to stop at the Sun City security gate and get a pass to enter. We recommend Argent Lakes Pub & Pizzeria which offers a a full bar with beer and wine, a limited Pub style menu and pizza, and because it is a great outdoor restaurant which we felt was a lot of fun. On a side note, a family a eleven came into the outside dining area. The server pulled two square tables together to seat six and pointed to a side round table to seat five. As the server went inside the family had a discussion and pulled the two square tables and two round tables together so they could all sit as a group. The server reemerged and was not amused. The family stated that the barmaid inside said that they could all sit together. The server said that the barmaid does not work outside and that she may need that round for other people and started to pull the tables apart. They ended up leaving.

Servers who waited on us--Eboni, Britton and Javier all were so kind and welcoming and the decor was replete with pretty Easter centerpieces in pastel colors. Even the napkins were transformed into bunnies! We live in Palmetto Hall and this was our first brunch here. We will definitely make it a yearly tradition!
