Classic Kelly's Family Restaurant, a Sunday Morning Stop in Cedar Springs, MI. After church on this chilly January Sunday (January 11, 2026), I kept up my weekly tradition of trying a different breakfast spot. This time I headed to Classic Kelly's at 356 N. Main St. in Cedar Springs--a longtime local institution that's been serving homestyle breakfasts for decades, though it's been under new management (Heather Youngs) for just the last couple of years. The place was hopping--classic small-town diner on a Sunday morning. Every seat was taken except the one right in front of me. The vibe was warm and lively, full of locals catching up over coffee. My waiter was friendly and on top of things: greeted me immediately, handed over the menu, and quickly returned with a large chocolate milk (always hits the spot after church). I ordered a classic combo--scrambled eggs (with an extra egg added), three sausage links, deep-fried hash brown patties (the crispy, golden McDonald's-style ones that arrived instead of the chunky home fries I was expecting), and wheat toast. Everything tasted good and hearty. The sausages were juicy, the toast nicely buttered, and the portions were generous enough to leave me fully satisfied. Those hash brown patties were a pleasant surprise--crispy outside, soft inside, and honestly delicious. The only minor letdown was the scrambled eggs being a little dry (probably straight from the shell with no extra milk or butter for extra fluff), but a quick hit of ketchup fixed that right up. The kitchen was definitely taking its time, though. With the restaurant at full capacity, my solo visit stretched to over 65 minutes from door to door, with only about 12 minutes of actual eating. It felt a bit drawn out when dining alone, but I can see how it would feel alright with family or friends and good conversation. Now, the decor... let's be honest--it's the one thing that keeps me (and probably a lot of others) from coming back more often. The big, bulky 1970s chairs with armrests and leather seats/backs are straight out of a time capsule, and personally, I can't stand them. They take up way too much space, make navigating the crowded room feel like an obstacle course, and honestly, they feel like a turn-off for newer customers--especially younger generations looking for something fresh and modern. I've been quietly griping about these chairs for the 20 years I've lived in the area, and I still think swapping them for slimmer, standard restaurant seating would open up the dining room, make the place more inviting, and help attract a broader crowd. (Though I get it--more seats might mean even longer waits, so it's a classic diner dilemma.) Payment was a small moment of confusion--used to be pay at the corner, now the server handles it. There was a short wait after my plate was cleared before the check came, adding to my confusion, but no major issue. Bottom line: Classic Kelly's delivers that comforting, no-frills small-town breakfast with a massive all-day menu (omelets, skillets, benedicts, pancakes, you name it), friendly service, and reliably filling food. The new management has kept the welcoming community feel intact while running a busy, well-loved spot. The food is solid, the portions satisfying, and the atmosphere is unmistakably Cedar Springs. If you're not in a rush and enjoy the laid-back pace (or have company to chat with), it's a great choice. Solo diners should just plan for the wait. Great food and heart, but those dated chairs are a real drag and could use an update to bring in more new faces. read more

Wow what a treat. We had Walleye baked with perfection and green beans to perfection and a yummy baked potato- then homemade turtle cheese cake. We are stuffed and happy. Large portions and incredible. Thank you! Our first restaurant in Cedar Springs MI. We will be back! read more

I work close to here so it's always convenient. Food is pretty average but it works. People here are very nice. Tried the liver and onions the other day. The perch dinner is pretty good. They offer a giant one and a third pound burger. read more

Nasty. Bugs flying around. Mouse droppings on the window sill. Dusty, dirty, cobwebs. Eggs Benedict English muffin was a dry hockey puck, sauce was out of a package. Loaded pancake had ham and bacon in it and was seasoned with cloves?! The syrup was cheap watered down disappointing. Service was good but I would never go back. I was litterally gaging. read more

If you like good home cooking, then Kelly's is the place for you. The low-key atmosphere is perfect for a mid-week meal. We had dinner there last night. I recommend a burrito, or an omelet (the Red Flannel is our favorite). The service is hit, or miss; but never bad. The food is always good. read more

The waitress was nice but after I paid my bill they refused to refill my coffee. The Man told me flat out I had to leave and made a scene about it in front of all his customers. Went there for the first time today. Kind of reminds me of a small town gathering hole. I had the hot turkey sandwich. It was good and a good size portion. Would have been better with white meat though. It was all dark meat. My wife had the Rueben sandwich and she thought it was very good. Even had her choice of light or dark rye bread. She also liked her fries. We also had the deep fried mushrooms and I loved those. All in all. Not perfect, but very good for me. read more

Kelly's is a good example of why you don't judge a book by its cover. Located in a drab grey building on the largely-derelict main drag of Cedar Springs, Kelly's manages to look slightly more inviting than the vacant furniture store next door. But just slightly. Inside, the dining room is drab and could probably use a scrubbing, and the menus are....well....sticky. What a pleasant surprise then to get a beautifully pan-fried fillet of fresh walleye for lunch, paired with equally-well-prepared homefries and a salad! Oh, and a HOMEMADE dinner roll! My companions' breakfasts all came with toast made from homemade bread as well, including a lovely wheat bread and a delicious dark rye. I'd not left any room for dessert, but the pies in the case by the door looked like good, homemade fare as well. All in all, a perfectly fine meal from this off the beaten path restaurant. read more

This is by far the best place in cedar springs to get breakfast, their red flannel omelette is a great way to start your day and the service is always super friendly. I enjoy going and seeing the servers there the environment is like family. Definitely a must try if your in town read more

Service was fine - pretty much a hole in the wall small town vibe. The menu was extensive - which I always find worrisome - as its hard to be great at everything. They have a large breakfast selection - plus burgers, pizza, italian, wraps, salads and many dinner entrees. My main issue was the pricing - $5 for an apple juice - over $8 for a single slice of cheesecake - $14 for two chicken tenders and tater tots. The burger looked good but everything else we ordered was bland and very "Gordon Food Service" looking. For 2 people - 1 soda, 1 juice - mozzarella sticks - a burger and a chicken tender basket it was $51. Just totally not worth it in my opinion - Sue's in town while having less variety is much more adequately priced and as my husband pointed out at the Forager in HC we had alcoholic drinks an appetizer and I had steak and it was within a few bucks of the same price and the building and ambiance is so much nicer. read more

Nice server... old-timey furnishings and decor. I was on the hunt to find somewhere that served an egg-salad sandwich, and Kelly's was the only place I could find. The long-hunted-for sandwich had a sweet-pickle taste and came with a few shreds of lettuce only, on fluffy white bread. Not horrible, but disappointing. My husband and son got philly cheesesteak sandwiches which were so dry that they were inedible - had to get my son something else for lunch after we left. My other son had a waffle and over-easy eggs. Those were OK... and were eaten. We all had soft drinks and the bill was $50 with the tip. Not a bargain, not good food. We won't be back. read more

Typical small town "family" restaurant in a market with few other options. The prices were too high for what you get, the dining room is, as another reviewer put it, "icky". They definitely know "y'all ain't from around here" (even though I only live about 5 miles away) as the entire dining room of geriatrics turns to size you up when you walk into the drab and "icky" dining room. The servers seemed a bit annoyed that we were bothering them with the whole being there thing. The service was dreadfully slow. It took over a half an hour to get three sandwiches, three orders of fries, and three drinks. The food certainly wasn't worth the price. I had been curious about the place, and it's pretty much as I expected. Overpriced and unappetizing. Boo. read more

as a CS "townie" I would go here occasionally. Always had good service and good food. Hadn't been there in a while, so we decided go last night. I was very surprised on this experience. First, the prices appear to have jumped, but I didn't mind because they typically had good sized portions! What I was most surprised about was what I observed. Two of the waitress were openly hacking like a cold+smokers cough. Hacking near the coffee machine, hacking near the service window, hacking in and out of the back area. Sometimes covering their mouth, but sometimes not, then serving the food/drinks with no evidence of washing hands or even using some kind of bacterial disinfectant. Fortunately our waitress was a younger woman who was kind and professional. Our food was 2-stars "Meh". Hot Turkey sandwich was on the mild side of "luke-warm". Honestly, I didn't want to send it back for the microwave because 1. it would have come back like a soggy leftover and 2. I was afraid that it might get handled by one of those women. We ate it, but I felt like there was a cleanliness issue there and didn't enjoy it. Maybe I just caught them on a bad night. I think the owner takes pride in his work and in the past I'd go 3 maybe 4 stars. For a greasy-spoon, they have been pretty good. However, I was compelled enough by my experience to yelp them. Perhaps the owner will read this and make some upgrades. It's the little things... I will go back and when I do, I'll yelp it again. I've liked Kelly's in the past and would like to again. read more

Breakfast here this morning as always consistent food and good coffee. The French toast was amazing.

It seems as though the prices have jumped. It cost us $47 for my husband and I to eat here with our 3 children ages 6, 4, and 1. We each got a meal and a drink with an order of 6 mozzarella sticks to split between all of us. No desserts or anything fancy like steak or fish, just breakfast for myself and the kids and a sandwich for my husband. The food was ok but nothing special. The waitress wasn't very friendly but not exactly rude. Also the portion sizes have shrunk significantly. The last time we ate here a few months ago we got pretty much the same things with the exception of sharing a cinnamon roll instead of getting mozzarella sticks and the meal cost under $30. We wont be going back again, at these prices we can easily go eat at Applebee's or Fridays and spend the same amount or less. read more

We've been coming here off and on for several years and have never been disappointed. We feel the portion sizes are good and food has always been good. We love, love , love their burritos. We often come with our camping group and when you come in with a big crowd (sometimes over 20 of us) they do an amazing job of getting our food done at the same time and still hot! We've been to bigger places where that doesn't happen. read more
