So disappointing. Made an effort to go there today. Handwritten sign on the door stated that they were not serving after 4. We arrived before then and stood at the door for quite a while waiting for someone to greet us. Eventually someone came out and told us that they were not sitting for dinner. When I mentioned the sign and the fact that it wasn't 4pm yet, the young lady informed me that she was the one who made the sign (and apparently didn't need to be reminded what was on it). We left. We won't be back. Had an awesome meal at the brewery. read more

I thought this was a former church, but the website tells me it was actually a bank. In any case, it's a great space. Lots of little nooks, old brickwork, and vintage pews for seating. They have a good selection of beer (impressive for the area), and food was decent. There are also darts available, if you're into that. If I lived in town, I'd make this my local. read more

Oh Kelly's - I wanted to love you, but I just couldn't. The beer was warm and flat, the service was slow, the food was sad - especially the poor nachos, who arrived with their multicolored chips, sprinkled with dry ground beef, and dry/unmelted cheese. Weirdest nachos ever. "Nachos"? The steak and cheese sub was the only redeeming entree. The service was so slow... we actually watched several customers chase (LITERALLY CHASE!) the waitress down for their check. We overheard so many people complaining at their tables about the wait (including one little girl who talked through all of the steps, and times it would take, to make linguine - and speculating as to why hers was taking so long). Maybe the food or the service would be better in the on-season? I might not find out, since I will be across the railroad tracks at The Shanty. Sorry Kellys! read more

Solid selection of beers? Check. Lengthy list of vodkas? Check. Unpretentious atmosphere with chill bartenders? Check and check. We stopped into this pub after dinner for a post meal drink and ended up wishing we had scheduled more time for our visit. We walked in and, despite it being packed, immediately scored two seats at the bar. We didn't skip a beat before being helped (did I mention the bartenders are on it?), and my blueberry vodka soda hit the spot. After a few minutes of imbibing at the bar, my eye caught the dart board. The bf tried to tell me it was just for display, but I was having none of it. I asked the bartender and, sure enough, darts are available for play. For free, I might add. So we played. And I won ;). Luckily all the customers are just as friendly as the bartenders so a nice new friend taught us how to score our game. It was way fun and now the only problem is I'm desperate to get a legit dart board at home! I suppose there are worse problems in the world... If you're in Cape Charles, you definitely need to pop in here for a drink. And probs a game of darts, too. read more

Been coming here once a year for probably about 10 years. Super neat building repurposed from an old bank. Always cool insude when it's crazy hot outside. The bar is warm and friendly and bar staff is professional. They have darts in the front and music occasionally. The she crab suop is delish. My son gets pasta and vodka sauce and loves it. They always seem to have one or so really good beers, so that's a plus. With all the options now in Cape Charles we still make it a point to go every year. Yay for Kelly's! read more

My wife and I got into Cape Charles at around 9:30. We were hungry and Kelly's was the only place still serving food. What a pleasant surprise! The menu we saw online made it seem like they had a limited bar menu. Their menu is actually pretty substantial. We started off with a crab bisque which was pretty good. The Crab Cake sandwich my girlfriend got was amazing! Lightly breaded, not too oily and full of fresh crabmeat. The Fried Oyster Sandwich I got was also delicious. The cole slaw both sandwiches came with was fantastic. We substituted our regular fries for sweet potato fries. Maybe the best decision we've ever made. These jokers were dusted with the PERFECT amount of cinnamon and sugar. (Sigh)........So sweet............ So good.......... So many memories. My wife and I just stopped by for a drink. Really liked the look of this place. The bartender was very friendly as was an emplyoee who was at the bar ready to go home that talked with us.The food smelled and loooked real good. Next time we're in town this will be the place to go for dinner, As far a draft beer selection, there were a few. Being from Richmond, Va., there are many places with a large selection of craft beers. Overall...a solid place to spend time with a drink and food. read more

What a disappointment. When you first walk on it is quite charming and quaint, but that is where it ends. We were seated and went to wash our hands before eating. Well the bathroom door was wide open and facing the kitchen. The smell was atrocious ! You might as well have been using the bathroom in the kitchen. The waitress came and took our drink order. We both asked for a water and unsweetened tea. She brought the drinks out and I got the tea and my friend got the water. We asked again and another waitress brought out more drinks with tea so warm the ice was all melted. :( We weren't ready to order our meal so we ordered She Crab Soup each and the Fried Pickles. After about 10 mins the waitress came back and took our order. I got the Rockfish Tacos and my friend got the Crab and Brie Burger. Another 5-10 mins went by and the soup camee out. The soup was the "high light" if you want to call or that (not really). We ate out soup and awaited our fried pickles. Another waitress who had brought us our drinks came by and we asked when the pickles would be out. She told our main waitress and we were told they would be right out. They weren't! Our food came and boy what a disappointment. The house made chips were cold and lacking flavor. The Rockfish was so small and heavily breaded it was like eating fried pieces of greasy batter. The cabbage was pretty good though. Sigh! The burger had no Brie, the hamburger was like a hockey puck and the crabmeat was fried and not lump at all. The English Muffin that it was on wasn't toasted at all and literally was falling apart as my fried was trying to eat it. I ate my food, but my friend just picked at his. What a disappointment. The pickles finally came out after we had finished our meal and we just sent them back. They looked ok, but after the disappointment of everything else we weren't going to chance trying them. Timing and service: Got there around 7:30 on a Friday night and despite the place's looking pretty busy, we were seated promptly (party of 2). I was impressed by the atmosphere (used to be an old bank). We had to wait for what felt like longer than necessary to place our initial drink order -- definitely less than 15 minutes (reference other reviewer), but long enough that we placed our food and drink orders at the same time upon our waitress's first visit. After that, our service was timely and attentive. Food: Absolutely incredible in terms of quality and quantity! My girlfriend ordered the meatloaf and I got the shepherd's pie -- both were amazing. The helpings were plentiful and delicious. Prices: For a beer and two bountiful dinner entrees, we got away for $40 including tip -- not too shabby. Bottom line: The prices were fair, the service was good, and the food was fantastic! I would definitely come back here again. read more

First time in town with friends. Our friends had Kellys on the docket for dinner. Loved the atmosphere and vibe of the place. After getting seated our waitress came over to get our drinks... well, it went down hill from there. She was not attentive and no follow up. I can't fault her per say because she needs more training. However, summer is coming and preparation is needed. Our food was very good. Nachos are fantastic!!! Our table had burgers and other items. Nothing really stood out. Unfortunately service was very sub par. I think if our server had been trained well our experience would have been much better. Will give it another try. read more

Not as positive as expected, but perhaps the stress of coming out of COVID is to blame. My primary complaint is that the menu we were handed on arrival was nothing like the one we had seen on line. Not one item that had gotten us there was offered. No oysters, no steamed clams and no chicken Milanese. I had the fish tacos and my husband had the fish sandwich. Both were good but nothing special. Our waiter was attentive and efficient, and we got chatting with some locals so ended up well, just sorry to miss the opportunity to try the local seafood. read more

We ended up at Kelly's and the stars were not aligned for a superb meal. We were greeted with the fact that a delivery truck had been delayed and nearly half their menu was unavailable. It was too late to try anywhere else so we knuckled down and went for it. My wife got a soup which she said was good, though not spectacular. My burger was over-cooked and under dressed. BUT, the shepherds pie that we got the kids was outstanding! I can give a pass on the pub food, but an Irish place better get the Irish dishes right, and they did in this case. I almost wished we'd gotten it for everyone. I would give them another chance just to see if the missing menu items are worth it. I want to give more than 3-stars but just can't with the truncated selections. Maybe next time! read more

We are big fans of Irish Cuisine and Kelly's did not disappoint. I found it hard to choose what to order since everything sounded so amazing but I opted for a signature dish of Irish Chicken Cordon Bleu (stuffed with Irish cheddar and corned beef) and I was pleasantly surprised by all the flavors the managed to put on the one plate. My husband ordered the Corned Beef Reuben and I was very impressed with the fresh pub chips, which after having a few myself I craved late into the night. We will return here in our next visit... I met a high school friend here for dinner. It is nicely decorated and the menu was surprising for the shore (a bit fancier than you'd expect). Despite that, it didn't seem pretentious, and the food was delicious! They also have a great selection of beers on tap. I got a Sam Adams Summer Ale and really enjoyed it. We got an appetizer of fried pickles. I tried to order the fish special of the day but they were out of the fish so they let me swap out the type of fish but had the same accompaniments. So I had seared ahi tuna with green beans and cheesy but citrusy risotto. Very excellent! I would come here again for sure. Though it is sort of expensive. read more

Just not a good night for Kelly's. The bartender was friendly, and that's what got a second star. Otherwise, it would be a one star. The staff was grumpy; the waiter was a bit snarky. Food... well it took over 15-minutes to get an appetizer and well over 45-minutes to actually get a meal. I get it, it's Memorial Day weekend and you are one of three places for dinner; but it's not that bad and the place was half empty. Something was just not good at that joint. The hostess was mopey. The staff was just not about service. We felt we were inconveniencing them to eat. Why go back when you can have a better meal, better service, better atmosphere over at Shanty. read more

I have been stopping at Kelly's for the past three summers as I make the long drive back to New York from another summer vacation in the Outer Banks. It is located about 3 hours north of OBX (which make it a good lunchtime stop). Even though Kelly's is a bit out of the way (a couple of miles off of Route 13), I have been stopping here because I really like the little town of Cape Charles. It looks like a town that time forgot. Its uniqueness is charming. It is nice to see it slowly becoming revitalized. As for Kelly's, it has a lot going for it: unique space in a former bank building, interesting decor, a location smack in the middle of a rejuvenated Cape Charles, and I like that the owner is a native New Yorker. Yet, despite these pluses, I can only give Kelly's three- stars. The reason? - slow service. On my last visit in 2013, our lunch took an eternity to arrive. While it was good, the time it took to arrive canceled this out. I was painfully reminded of the slow service over the Labor Day weekend. Again, it took a very long time for our food to arrive (about 30 minutes for simple sandwiches). Our waitress, who was very pleasant, apologized several times, indicating that they were busy. I was willing to let this pass the first time, but given that this has happened twice, I cannot give a higher rating. I'm not sure if I will come back to Kelly's again next year. While food is decent, the service needs to improve. I cannot afford an 1.5 hour or more lunch stop if I am going to make it home at a reasonable hour. If the service improves, Kelly's might render a solid four stars, but until they speed things up, I will probably look elsewhere for my annual lunchtime stop on the Eastern Shore. read more

Full of flies and horrible service. The window we were seated at had at least 20 flies zooming in and out. I went to the restroom and noticed a fly trap in the sink behind the bar, again full of damn flies. The waitress in the back was eating fries off a customers plate and casually brought it out like she hadn't. The other waitress didn't bother to bring us a menu or ask if we needed anything.
