Started with the Lobster Roll as my mouth was watering for the taste of Cape Cod that has been burned in my mind since years gone by in Chatham. 2000% disappointed. Best single word description is "tasteless". Literally like biting into a piece of lobster that was just unfrozen and still soaked with freezer burn dredged in lemon and celery water. The roast beef itself wasn't much better if at all. One word description here would be "bland". All in all our experience would have rated a solid "eh" rating and given them a 3, but when all of this is combined with a 20-minute wait in a drive thru line, which was extended as they had to fix the wrong order for the lady in front of us, I was kind with a 2. Typical roast beef sandwich with fries. We ate here on our way back from St. Petersburg since it wasn't too far out of the way. We have eaten at Kelly's many times in the Boston area and my wife was super excited to see one pop up in Florida. Was it great? Not really. The sandwich was ok and the portion size was fine. The staff was sort of weird and oddly quiet. I think because it is still new that they were working out the kinks. The dining room was really clean and the bathroom was immaculate. I like Kelly's and their food is good. This one probably just needs some time and they will be up to par. We might stop in if we are in this area again. read more

I ordered the 2-way combo with the clams and the scallops. I thought the whole belly clams were the star of the show. If I visited again, I would likely just get them. I liked the scallops were good too but just loved the clams. Hardly ever see them outside of the northeast. I know I read negative reviews of the fries but I actually really enjoyed them. Tried my wife's shrimp and I thought they were good as well. It was a bit pricey but I thought it would be a place I would go back to again if I were in the area. Funny thing is I grew up in Massachusetts and had never heard of Kelly's but it came highly recommended by a friend that lives outside of Sarasota. When you grow up on the North Shore of Massachusetts, roast beef is life. Is this location as good as the Mass locations? No. But it's good enough for those of us Bostonians craving a taste of home . First of all, like all Kelly's, the service is great. They run their restaurants like a machine . It's obviously not as big as their Saugus location, but it's perfect inside with plenty of things to remind me of home with a Florida touch . The roast beef, which one should only order three-way (cheese, bbq sauce, Mayo), is a bit saltier than it is up north. I've eaten here twice and noticed the higher salt concentration both times. Im not sure if this is on purpose or not, but it's enough salt for me to not consider this amazing . The lobstah roll was good, but again, missing something from the original. Cold and disgusting lobster rolls, pretty sure it was Manatee. This place is on the ropes, they will not last much longer - employees have the "unemployed soon" stare. No customers inside or in the drive-thru (clear warning sign), a testament to the overpriced menu and poor food quality. $4 for a large drink that wouldn't even classify as a medium? So 1st off, don't go by business photos, your sandwich will not look like that. So, they serve you a pretty big sandwich, but on a paper plate the same size, it's annoying, you can't afford a bigger plate, 2nd the beef was nice and rare, but also stone cold, and flavorless, then they drown it in mayonnaise that squeezes out everywhere when you bite into it,(all over the table because the 6" plate doesn't hold it), and top it with a cold hard piece of white cheese(tasteless). That's an $11+ sandwich. Onion rings large order size was $11.95, ridiculously high price for small generic onion rings, that were severely undercooked. Fries were tasteless but at least cooked. we ate here on Saturday, being from Mass we tracked the opening of Kelly's. it did not disappoint. We both went with traditional Roast Beef with fries and onion rings. Roast beef with light sauce was exactly the same as we have had in Mass many times. Tender, thin and delicious. My wife could not get enough of the onion rings, they were fried to perfection, nice coating and a good bite and taste. a wonderful experience. We went just after 2:00 and there was a line to get in and the line was there until we left. We met many others from Mass. it was a 50/50 split on people having Roast beef and the others having seafood. Seafood is also good here. read more

Disappointing. We ordered two roast beef sandwiches and two sides of coleslaw. The total price was $29.75 which included the tax. The beef was cooked properly and tender but, quite flavorless and served at room temperature. The condiments, a vinegar based BBQ sauce or horseradish sauce are definitely needed . Maybe that's their point? The coleslaw was also bland. This new restaurant was very clean with a polite staff. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. In fairness, we did not try anything else on the menu. Perhaps their lobster roll would have been a better experience. Given that "roast beef" is in their name, we started with there . The rest of the menu is primarily an assortment of fried table fare which, we will likely never try as our first experience was not very good. read more

I was hoping for more!! I have to say the texture of the beef was good, but taste and cook not for me. Needs seasoning and at least medium cook! Also I struggled with knowing the condiment options. I didn't even see the tarter sauce and horseradish everyone is raving about. Not a seafood fan so wouldn't be able to judge clams or chowder. My husband really liked the bun/ roll on the hotdog. Having been a Kelly's regular customer at Saugus, Revere Beach, and yes even Natick, Sarasota was a treat! First visit ordered the large roast beef with the usual BBQ sauce. Verdict=absolutely the same as the sandwich in MA. Downsides? Ummm, no Aquarium, or Carousel Horses. But, hey this is Florida? LOL Look forward to future visits to compare the rest of the menu choices. read more

I enjoyed Large Roast Beef Sandwich meal, like most other Yelpers have said it is very overpriced fast food similar to prices of Five Guys or Culver's. I had multiple of my friends from Massachusetts suggest this place. Roast Beef was quality but seasoning on both the BBQ sauce and the meat itself left a lot to be desired. The French fries were seasoned perfectly but I was hoping for a lot more. Bottom line I would check this place out but with its close vicinity of one of the most popular fast food places right by it I'm uncertain of its future and especially Anna Maria Oyster Bar opening next year too. read more

Kelly's Roast Beef has been sending us Messenger messages, emails and texts for a BOGO on their sandwiches. I took my wife today and while I think it was a great sandwich, I think I prefer roast beef sandwiches prepared as Philly cheese steaks. I'll say this - the person who minded the register at Kelly's was as nice and helpful as she could be. In fact, everyone who worked there wore a welcoming smile and were friendly. The BOGO promotion saved us about $10, so I appreciated getting the deal. First time in. Read the negative reviews but wanted to try for ourselves. So glad we did. The food was incredible. The staff was so nice and welcoming. I had the lobster roll which was huge!!! The manager explained to me that it had a lemon aioli, WOW!!!!!!! My husband had the large Roast Beef with just the BBQ Sauce, it was delicious. A perfect medium rare piled high on the roll and hand cut onion rings. This will be our new lunch spot, just wish they had more tables. read more

Don't expect Arby's roast beef when you go to this place. Get Arby's out of your head or you will be disappointed. It is more like fresh deli sliced roast beef. Went to Kelly's yesterday for lunch. I had the Original Roast Beef (small) and onion rings (small) There was so much, that I only ate half and brought the rest home! The Onion Rigs were the best Onion rings I've ever had (and I love onion rings!). They were lightly breaded and not over fried. The roast beef sandwich was great as well. We drove from Tampa to check this place out. We both grew up with Kelly's in Revere and then later the location in Saugus, so we were pretty excited to see one down here. To our delight it was just like at home! The roast beef was finely sliced and they toasted the bun just right, and of course the sauce is super important and that was spot-on too. The food is very good, the portions are generous. I had fish and chips which also included onion rings to my happy surprise. The fries were your standard run of the mill, but the fish and onion rings were New England style. A light batter without heavy grease. The service was great. The venue was comfortable but not fancy, prices are a little high if you compare it to fast food restaurants, but I didn't. We have been waiting for some time for this place to open and had really high hopes that it was not just another tourist trap to take our local money. Well that wait was for nothing. Another tourist trap. Sorry we did not take photos but after waiting so long and having a couple bites we just were not in the mood to take them. First seems like the kitchen got way more room then the dining room and from first look seems like a fast food restaurant. Then you see the prices but hey figured we were in for some really good New England food. Ordered a couple "large" roast been sandwich meals, large onion rings, "large" lobster roll and clam platter. Cost $118.00 for 4 people. So first - Lobster roll was small. Lobster barely covered the roll and I would estimate maybe 1 claw was used. It was tasty, fresh and no seafood odor but if this was large I would hate to see what small looked like. This was really just 3 bites and I called it an appetizer. That was the first waste $29.95 Ha Next up - whole belly clam platter. $35.95 - Ok portion but clams smelled like fish food and very soggy. Wife ate some but nobody else would touch them. Turns out they did not go well in her stomach and we had to reroute our afternoon plans back home. Onion rings - $10.95 for a large which they forgot and I had to ask for them after. There was plenty there but mostly soggy, no seasoning and really for that price we should have been wowed but far from it. Lastly the roast beef that they are supposed to be known for. I love meat, beef, steak, etc. This was not it. Meat tasted like you make at home but forgot all seasoning then left it in the fridge for 3-4 days before cutting. Overly thick and chewy and the sauces - mayo and some odd tomato based gravy they call bbq sauce. No horseradish or other options but ketchup at least per the cashier which had a thick accent and seamed not to know much. I would have thought that training would have been better for a front of house person. They need to season their roast beef. Avoided the cheese as we saw many removing the cold american cheese triangles from their sandwiches while we waited in line. Off thing is that as we watched many trays go by all of the food looked to be the same sizes. So maybe everyone went for the large sizes or this was just their way to make more money. Assumption only here but people where their of all ages and I doubte many were doing lg onion rings or large roast beef sandwiches. Living in the Sarasota, Lakewood ranch area for over 16 years and there are plenty of other restaurants around and glad to see AMOB coming. This is a lesson learned but unfortunately we learned the hard way and gave away our money for a lost meal. Also, I take requests from my friends in Tampa as they love Kelly's too. Moderately priced, but lots of roast beef. Five minutes from the I-75 exit. Worth the stop. read more
