This place is top notch! I had a burrito here and it was the best burrito I've ever had. They hand press and cook every tortilla to order which makes such a big difference. Everything is made from scratch. They use antibiotic and hormone free meat that is so flavorful and tastes very authentic. They offer full transparency on every ingredient used in their recipes which is great for people that need to avoid certain ingredients due to allergies/intolerances. They don't use any seed oils! They also prioritize the use of the clean fifteen produce and don't use produce that's apart of the dirty dozen. They are doing it right! I got a carne asade burrito with honey lime cabbage, feta, cilantro, sour cream, salsa verde, chimi-aioli, arugula, lime, and jalapeño relish. It was TO DIE FOR. Classic tacos on fresh made corn tortillas with a sub of pico de gallo was fantastic! Simple cheese quesadillas with pico de gallo were also great! The pico could have been a bit spicier, but very good, even so. The build your own bowl was excellent as well! Go for the green sour cream style sauce instead of the plain sour cream sauce. Been coming to Poppos for years, whenever I'm around the area. This most recent time was probably my least fave visit. I got my usual black bean quesadilla (was pretty soggy this time) and wanted a salad but they were out of romaine. Came in starving. This place had good reviews so we opted to dine in. This is walk up service so you place your order and if dining in, they have plenty of seats. Staff was friendly and accommodating until we got to the part where they add the meat to the tacos. My friend ordered the Classic Tacos but she doesn't prefer pork so before ordering she asked the staff member if she could sub for chicken which he said yes so she ordered. When we got to the meat area and the staff was about to place chicken on her tacos when the manager stopped him and said it was to have carnitas. My friend said that she asked for chicken but he refused to accommodate despite the staff member telling her in the beginning it was ok. This is not cool at all and I can't believe you can't choose or sub out the meat type. Food was delicious. I had the basic tacos with chicken, onions, salsa and cheese. I also ordered the side of chips with salsa. The chips are made fresh and you can definitely taste the freshness. The taco shells are also made fresh! They press them and heat right in front of you. Went to Poppos Taqueria as a quick stop on a road trip. It was very fast and the food was very healthy but it packed a bit of flavor and the service was okay, the people were not the nicest. I would probably go back to try it again for a quick bite. I had seen this little. Taco spot the last time I came shopping to this shopping center where this is located. I finally went back months later with an empty stomach and the food didn't disappoint I ordered a side carnitas taco on a corn tortilla and a baby/mini chicken burrito. I absolutely LOVED how the tortillas were made right in front of me, my meal was incredibly tasty and fresh. I live 45 minutes away, but I will return to eat here again. There is a lot to like about this place. Nice building, good inside design, clean, outdoor seating, local products. Just a couple minor things keeping it from being five stars including higher pricing than some competitors and non-brand soda that isn't bad, but not what most are used to. The food is five stars. Super healthy and lots of options to spice up the selection One nice thing is steak is the same price as chicken (well nice for the steak lover who usually pays more). This simplified approach is a good arrangement. The only complaint is $2.50 to add guacamole to your item seemed too steep. Options include two tacos, burrito, bowl (16 ounce) and large bowl (32 ounce). Tip: get the big bowl for $2 more and have leftovers for the next day....just order it to go. Nice they have kombucha, which is a very tasty version of this drink; however the $6 price tag was high for a standard size bottle. The inside seating is interesting but cute. You sit on two-by-four boxes that are painted antique. Cool designs on the walls and counters. read more

The food here is just delicious - carefully prepared, very clean food. The bowl was amazing -- really good quacamole (which they should tell you costs extra) and excellent pico de gallo. My bowl was a bit expensive ($13) for fast food, but the quality of the ingredients makes it worth it. We ordered tortilla chips and they made them fresh immediately -- sooo good. This was pretty good! The flavor is really nice and it's not too spicy. Very similar to chipotle but a little different style. The Carnitas and the chicken were delicious. A few cons: the white rice wasn't great and we were charged for a pole without really wanting it. We thought it just came with the quesadilla we ordered. ROBERY!!! Do NOT eat here! Two barbacoa bowls cost $39.48! Not even kidding! They charged me $5.00 for the little scoop of guacamole (smaller scoop than Chipotle). There are no prices on the menu so we had no idea how much our SALADS with very little barbacoa, by the way, were going to cost. That's right, I said salad - no rice, no beans, and no chips or drink either! They were out of arugula, the typical base for the salad, so I got a heaping bowl of red cabbage instead. We arrived at 11:15 after they had just opened at 11:00. ALL of the tables were dirty, presumably from the day before since they JUST opened. My wife and I had previously eaten at Poppo's in St. Pete and it was great! So when we saw it here at UTC we decided to try it. When you walk in you can smell the certain something good in the air that definitely makes you wanna eat We ordered chips and salsa with a side of guac. Loved how when we ordered the chips - they were sliced from fresh tortillas and popped in the fryer, taken out, lightly salted and right to the table. Can you say yum???!!! We both ordered the chicken tacos. Super fresh! Super tasty! Super delicious! - again! The staff were nice and we were greeted by who I think was the manager - a super nice guy, and he even gave me a Poppo's baseball cap - the same one the staff wears - no charge. It fit me perfectly!, and is another great addition to my cap collection! Can't say how appreciative I was and am from this gesture of generosity! A tasty little spot to grab some fresh Mexican food. It's counter service and there is a good amount of seating at this location. My friends and I stop here sometimes to get a bite to eat before heading to the beach. While it's affordable, the prices have definitely increased over the past year. I enjoy getting the small bowl with a greens base and without beans to keep things on the healthier side. The carne asada is delicious and there are plenty of other veggie options to add to make a big bowl of happiness. After all is said and done, as long as you don't add any premium toppings like guac it's around $10. A much better option than Chipotle if you ask me. They hand press their tortillas for tacos and burritos right in front of you as well. Nice place to grab a quick bite to eat whether you're dining in or taking out. Fountain soda made up of real sugar, and pretty quick service as well. Although I like other poppo's locations better as they feel more relaxing and local, they have a character. Other locations are also more friendly and more generous on the meat, my burrito in this location was mostly rice and beans and other sides. Anna Maria island location is still my favorite. read more

****NO CASH****** Just a heads up!!! We were in town for a few days, and we wanted tacos. Asked a few local guys where to eat, and both agreed Poppo's was a good spot! We arrived around 5pm and the place was empty. One couple sat outside eating. 3 people were working and were eager to help. I ordered a chicken burrito. The flour tortilla was fresh made right in front of me. Like from the dough. Awesome. My wife ordered two pork tacos. Same thing, both of her tortillas were fresh made. It's set up very similar to a Chipotle In terms of flow. You pick your protein, toppings and what not, and it's assembled down the line. Flavor was good. I wouldn't say it was over the top. I love Poppo's! Honestly I've yet to find a better burrito around. Or quesadilla for that matter. I used to work here in high school and can confirm that all their ingredients are fresh and high quality. Me and my wife normally crave their food at least a couple times a week! Especially their homemade guacamole! They make it fresh every morning. Plus their drink options are some of the best I have seen. This is definitely a good find! It's a build your food, pay at end, and sit kind of place. I wasn't sure what to get and the menu was vague. I would've given this place 5 stars but if you are a first timer - it's not very welcoming. The food preps didn't ask if we had questions - they treated us like we knew what we were doing and I'm pretty sure our body language was screaming "we don't have a clue." Again, the menu is vague and when you are standing in front of the choices - you can't tell by looking what is chicken or pork because everything is seasoned and the coloring looks the same. They only had chicken to choose from as well at the moment since the pork and beef were being prepared - should prob time it better. Anyway, once we figured out what we were doing and asked a billion questions - we ordered along. I got a quesadilla with chicken in it and a drink. The drinks are specialty style sodas/teas made with cane sugar which is cool. I got the black cherry cola. It was yum. I couldn't wait to dig in (hence the photo) but the way they make their quesadilla is unique. They let the cheese melt on the tortilla and then fold it in 3rds and flip it so it gets very crunchy. Then they add toppings in afterwards. I love the way the tortilla came out. I let with a full belly and almost wanted to eat there again the next day - that's how much I enjoyed they food! read more

This is a pretty solid Tex-Mex spot close to UTC. The menu and the way you select your food and toppings reminds me of Chipotle. The prices might be about a dollar more expensive than a comparable order at Chipotle. However, the quality is pretty good and the people working the lines do a good job moving things along efficiently. I got the pork tacos and thought they were a solid offering. The pork was nice and juicy and flavorful, but not too saucy to the point where your taco gets all soggy. The toppings were all nice and fresh. I also liked the touch of having pickled onions as a topping, something that Chipotle does not have. The pickled onions add a nice hit of sourness that cuts through the richness of the pork and really ups the flavor experience of the tacos. Overall, solid place. If you want an alternative to always getting a burrito bowl at Chipotle, this is a good option :) read more
