Kelly Young is the best in the business. When she broke away from area gyms to start her own business, I know many gym owners were upset because her clients traveled with her. She is so passionate about health and fitness and is so incredibly motivating. She teaches 12 classes a week and it is never flat. It amazes me how she can show up every day (often more than once) and be so full of energy and motivation and have such creative, fun, butt-kicking workouts. She also really cares about her clients and I have heard her get stern with her clients who are trying to work out through an injury. Safety is a priority to her and she always finds ways to modify moves. Boot camp can get big and sometimes you feel like she doesn't notice if you are there or not. But believe me, she does. I have received a note or text from time to time saying, "Where were you today?" Also, the people at bootcamp are so great. It is a non-intimidating, friendly group and all skill levels are welcome. I have never felt judged for being a little slower or for not being able to lift as much weight as the person next to me. I started Kelly's bootcamp after my second child, and I was really out of shape and uncoordinated. There are some amazingly fit people, but I never felt out of place--always welcome. I have been going to her bootcamp for almost 2 years now and LOVE it. I do the Saturday AM bootcamp and typically Monday and Wed. nights. It worked so well my dad and husband joined the bandwagon. Its made a big difference in our overall fitness and state of well-being. I like the format which enables you to just show up and "get what you came for" and get back to life (I even sometimes bring a kid or two if I need to). Its a great value in my opinion-- yes, its outdoors and weather can be a factor, but the price cannot be beat. Its also fast paced and you really have the opportunity to push yourself, but Kelly always advocates doing the workout at your pace-- modifications for health concerns are always encouraged and she is happy to help you come up with alternative moves. On a side note, I also have plantar fasciitis, and had a huge flair up during my second pregnancy. However, working out with Kelly has never caused it to flair up, and I have not had any issues since I wear supportive shoe inserts and stretch. read more

I have been an athlete for most of my life....but I have become a TRUE ATHLETE since I have been working out with Kelly. Over the last 8 years since I have been working out with Kelly it has been life-changing for me! Getting back into shape after having three babies! I moved from CA to Fairfax almost 2 summers ago and was at a loss as where I could find an outdoor fitness program. A good friend in the South Riding area told me about Kelly's Bootcamp. I was skeptical at first b/c of the size and the distance from Fairfax, but after my first class-I was sold. Kelly's Outdoor Bootcamp is a great workout environment for those new to fitness, athletes trying to maintain their overall wellness and children! I joined this group when it only had 30 people attending. Kelly continued to improve herself through professional training and conferences which brought new fitness training to our group which has grown to over 200 people. My overall health and wellness improved so much that I ran my first half marathon at the age of 35! Now at 41 I have learned so much about diet, fitness and strength training that I have ran 5 half marathons, 7 obstacle runs two of which were Super Spartans and recently ran the Keys 100 mile relay! You can't find a better group to workout with and at her prices! I've been with this awesome group since May 2011. They are like family to me. Kelly does an awesome job at getting to know each of us and works with you if you have any injuries or issues by providing modifications you can do and still get a serious workout in. You'll find that each of us has a story as to why we are here and what motivates us. Four years ago if you told me that I'd be doing triathlons I would have laughed. Through Kelly and the boot camp family, I've learned to ride a bike and become stronger after major neck surgery and several leg injuries and now do triathlons. I have been going to Kelly's for 4 years. Before her, I hardly ever exercised and never enjoyed it. She runs a super fun and super affordable program that can give all levels of fitness ability a great workout. She varies her format and always keeps things new. She goes to conferences and brings back new equipment each time. Everyone that goes to class is very supportive because that is how Kelly is. Attending her classes 4-6 times a week has improved by fitness abilities beyond my imagination. I ran a 1/2 marathon this year and would have never been able to do it without her and fellow bootcamper encouragement. I can honestly say that Kelly's Boot Camp changed my life! Before she started her business I rarely if ever exercised, was very overweight, and generally unhealthy. Thanks to her I have turned all of that around. Kelly makes exercise accessible to all levels so that you can modify based on your level. Kelly probably has more than 150 people come each week to her classes between weekday and 2 times on Saturday. Even with this many students, she makes an effort to get to know all of us. She focuses on form and on improvements. Often during the session she performs benchmarks to show us how we are getting better. I have been doing bootcamp for 2 years and I love how many classes she offers--its close, convenient and reasonably priced. Kelly teaches 99% of her classes. She is so motivational and when she yells at us on occasion, it's all in love :) Kelly comes up with creative ways to keep folks motivated during times when its easy to slack off--mainly in the dead of the winter.
