It's been a little over a month since our wedding in May at River Cafe in Brooklyn, NY and I STILL cannot stop thinking about their floral design. My family and guests can't stop talking about it either! They really made my wedding and EXCEEDED my expectations. From our initial conversation and throughout the entire planning process, they were so organized and open to my vision. When I was unsure as to whether I wanted a ground arch or normal arch, they provided examples to help me narrow my options. I also, appreciated the fact that they scheduled a site visit as that allowed us the opportunity to better connect in person. Additionally, I loved the fact that they sourced the flowers locally. I would pick Traveling Flower Ladies again and again.

Recently, I placed an order for a floral arrangement to be delivered to my 90 year grandmother for her birthday, my credit card was charged. I spoke with my grandmother the day after her birthday and asked her if she liked her flowers, she said she never received them. I called Amberworks right away and no one picked up the phone and no way to leave a message. I called all day and more of the same. I emailed them and finally (2 days later) recieved this response, "We were unable to fill it. We will forward you the email confirming cancelation." That's it, no apology, nothing. I am sad that my grandmother did not get anything from me on her 90th birthday and this company absolutely did not care. Not a place I want to do business with.

I've never been to CT so when I needed a florist - stat - I didn't know where to go. Turning to…read moreYelp was all I needed. Glad to say that the site led me to a business I could trust and which yielded good results. So... some context: someone I used to know lost someone very close to them very suddenly. Wanting to show care and compassion, I looked up local florists, surveyed their reviews and inventory and made a short list of businesses that could get the job done in a respectful and meaningful way. The team at Sweet Pea's was receptive, helpful and fast. They put together a condolence basket that the recipient could share with family and show that all involved were thought of. I tipped for faster service and that tip was well-spent. The turnaround was lightning fast and the actual basket was something of value. One quote about it that I remember was that the basket was 'shockingly heavy' and filled with items the recipient could use. Here's the twist: said recipient would turn around and stab me in the back so horribly it took quite a while to recover. You would think such an association would cause me to give Sweet Pea's a bad review. Nope. Sending condolences is always the right thing to do even if the recipient is unkind and untrustworthy. Sweet Pea's provided a well-received and well-valued service in a very quick window and I'm appreciative of that... even given the circumstances of how things turned out.

She listened and helped me bring my vision to life, even when I didn't know exactly what I was looking for. I also did most of my planning from NYC, and Koko was flexible, working over email and the phone. When Koko showed up on my wedding morning, I teared up at the sight of her work. My bouquet was exactly what I had envisioned, and my bridesmaids all loved theirs as well. I requested that each of the groomsmen's boutonnieres be unique - and Koko nailed it. Koko took on every ask with enthusiasm - and had suggestions for making my vision even better. She even brought extra flowers to photograph my invitation suite. I am so happy that I found Koko out of all of the New Haven area florists!!!

Our institute's BBQ party turned out to be the best Boston lobster I've ever had!…read more Steamed 1 1/4 Lobster: The lobsters were incredibly fresh, with plump, firm meat filling every crevice of the shell. Each one had large chunks of roe and brain. This was the first time I'd ever had lobster with roe; many seafood restaurants in Boston don't offer this! Steaming preserved the lobster's aroma and umami to the fullest. Dipped in butter and with a rich, creamy flavor, devouring large chunks of meat was incredibly satisfying. BBQ Baby Back Ribs: Grilled to a tender, fall-off-the-bone perfection, melting in your mouth. A sweet and savory sauce with a slight spiciness, fragrant but not greasy. BBQ Boneless Chicken Breast: Grilled a little too long; chicken breast tends to get dry easily. New England Clam Chowder: Seasoning and texture were perfect. Rich, full-bodied, and incredibly satisfying. Steamed Littleneck Clams and Mussels: A classic New England dish. It seemed to have a fair amount of white wine added; it was a bit acidic, but the wine flavor isn't overpowering, it was quite nice. Red Smashed Potatoes: Mashed potatoes, skin and all, were smooth and creamy with a distinct buttery aroma. The crust was surprisingly crispy, adding a fun texture. Mixed Salad with Homemade Vinaigrette: The rich, gentle aroma of olive oil paired surprisingly well with the vibrant sweetness of strawberries. Cornbread: The best cornbread I've ever had! Soft, moist, naturally sweet, and with a perfectly textured, slightly coarse consistency. Fresh Rolls: They have a thin, crispy crust, a soft interior, and a rich buttery flavor. The bread itself is delicious, but it's even better dipped in clam chowder. Fresh Corn on the Cob: This was boiled sweet corn; it was a little watery but very sweet.
