They sometimes have varieties that aren't in the big box stores. Today was no exception. I selected some rare succulents and proceeded to the outdoor checkstand to pay. That is where things went downhill. This usually open checkstand had a note stating it was closed and to pay inside. So back inside I went. After a short wait I approached the check stand and after the young man rang my purchases he handed me the receipt. I said well I need to pay you. And as I unzipped my RFID-shielded wallet to obtain my debit card the young male cashier said, "oh it already took your payment" (and he pointed to the "tap here" feature on the credit/debit card machine on the counter). I was flabbergasted! So after looking at the receipt I saw that the machine had charged a credit card that was located several cards deep inside my wallet in my crossbody bag that I was wearing at the time. I asked him to refund that and place the items on a debit card instead. Wow. After a brief discussion, both he and his "Lead" admitted that machine is super sensitive so my recommendations are to the consumer be careful when shopping here, and to ACE replace the machine or post a warning to customers. Lastly, the attitude of the Lead was a bit condescending - loud, and restating the obvious. And the cashier was aloof - detached and not listening.

The store is also wonderfully stocked and maintained. I recently decided to try to attract some hummingbirds into my yard and figured a nice hanging plant should do the trick. With my limited knowledge of such things, I immediately asked for some assistance and recommendations. I was referred to Ava, who was just an absolute delight. She was genuinely excited about my pursuit and immediately gave me many options. With her help, I was able to choose a beautiful calibrachoa. She was nice enough to trim it up a bit for me, while also offering recommendations on care and watering. I tend to like to highlight when I receive service that I believe goes above and beyond my normal expectations. This was one of those occasions. Ava is knowledgeable and just has a radiant personality. A true asset to the staff at Ace.

As it's been in the past, I can again describe the Dixon Ace store as "twice the store and half the…read morestuff" (referring to the other two nearby Ace stores). Today I went to the Dixon store for two small hardware items. I spent considerable time in front of rows of small drawers, as did another customer, searching for one of my items. I think the other customer finally became frustrated and left the store after pacing back and forth looking for something for many minutes. We caught glimpses of store employees at the end of the aisle, but they never seemed to notice us . . . or care that we might need help. I finally found one of my items without help, but I had not seen the other one (Pop Rivets) during my time there . . . so I tracked down an employee and asked. The employee apparently hadn't heard of a pop rivet, so he called to learn where they were. When we finally arrived there, the selection was very sparse with only aluminum pop rivets available in any quantity less than 100. I resigned myself to traveling west on I-80 to the next Ace store where, no surprise, they had a better selection of pop rivets. If it weren't for the extra distance, I would always opt for "half the store with twice the stuff". Most days parking is a real problem at the Vacaville store . . . for good reason.

I had the pleasure of being assisted by Jeff P., who was extremely helpful, kind, and professional. He took the time to help me select my keys and made the entire process easy and enjoyable. His friendly attitude and excellent customer service really stood out! I also had the pleasure of meeting Art S., who stepped in to assist with a missing price on the keys. He was just as friendly and welcoming, and we even shared a few laughs and jokes along the way! When I got to checkout, there was a small mishap with the keys ringing up at the incorrect price. Art was right there to help and made sure the issue was corrected immediately without any hassle. What impressed me most was how genuinely friendly, personable, and attentive both gentlemen were. It's refreshing to encounter employees who not only take pride in their work but also seem to truly enjoy what they do. Their positive attitudes, professionalism, and sense of humor turned what was supposed to be a quick trip for a key into such a pleasant and memorable experience! We drop in to check it out every time we're in town and always find something we want or need. They've got regular hardware items, plus all kinds of nuts, bolts, tools, and more.
