This place was highly recommended for our trip. I knew going here that I wanted to order the skor bar Bannock. When we arrived, there weren't any prepared. The young man behind the counter, said that he could make me one on the spot because the fry bread had cooled down . Omg. D E L I C I OU S!! Took me two days to finish it and oh boy was it worth it. I visited this bakery a long time ago before they relocated to their new place. I love bannock, an Indigenous treat fried over a pan, which is incredibly delicious. I've had bannock from several places before, but this shop offers a more unique variety of flavors. We tried the venison bannock, apple and cinnamon, cinnamon sugar, and cinnamon bits. The dough was denser than what I've had at other places, so I think it's better warmed up in the microwave. The flavors were simple, but I really enjoyed the cinnamon bits--they were like mini donuts. The shop's interior was decorated with Indigenous art, and the service was very good. They offer original merchandise, such as mugs. I also noticed that several celebrities have visited this shop. I really like this place and look forward to trying different flavors on my next visit. read more

Found this place while we visited West Kelowna (Kelowna is now divided into West Kelowna and Westbank) back in June. Kekuli Cafe was located within walking distance from our hotel Fairfield Marriott. They mainly sell Bannocks, sandwiches and coffee. Never heard of what Bannock is until I walked into Kekuli Cafe. Felt too curious of what Venison Bannock was like. It was around $6 for Venison Bannock which wasn't cheap. This pastry was soft and tasty. No gamey smell of venison at all. There was some venison meat which looked and reminded me of ground beef. Forgot to say the pastry was big. I'm glad we went here to try Bannock at Kekuli. John Catucci's picture urged me to try their food. It was worth a try! Staff was fast and friendly. read more

This is a cafe by indigenous people. They have a good selection baked pastry which is different from regular cafe. The dough is slightly heavier just like homemade bread. Drink menu covers most drink including Matcha Latte. They've also have their own merchandise. What I love most is the indigenous arts that they've put up in the cafe. We stopped by around 11am on our drive back to Vancouver. Two of us got the chicken mushroom havarti bannock melt, one got the breakfast sandwich and another got a bakery item. My first time trying bannock was a pleasant experience; it complemented the savoury chicken and mushroom sauce very well. I scarfed it up and it was so filling, I didn't eat again until close to 8pm! They also have an oat milk option for my fellow lactose intolerant foodies :) It is a busy little cafe with a constant flow and ebb of lineups. I would come back next time I'm in the area! read more

We were anxious to try Kekuli cafe, a very popular cafe in West Kelowna that features bannock bread. Bannock is a fry bread adopted by indigenous people and this Bannock restaurant gives it a modern contemporary twist, First Nations style! We decided on bacon breakfast bannocks and a sweet maple glaze bannock. They were delishious! This place gets pretty busy. At 9am on a weekend and it was already packed. Well, kekuli has turned into that guy u wanted to meet online, and when you met him in person, were sorely disappointed. They've moved, but apparently left their food quality and customer service back at the old place. Called them to place a pickup order, and the girl initially didn't even want to take our order, asking us to use an app. She even stated "we don't take orders over the phone, and we usually don't even answer the phone." after some back and forth, she transferred us to someone who could take our order (apparently she wasn't capable?) Ordered the usual, smoked salmon sandwich with hashbrowns, and I sit on the toilet hours later, I severely regret my decision. The bannock was oily and didn't taste fresh, the "hashbrowns" looked delicious, but tasted like over boiled potatoes with some green onions sprinkled on top. It's really hard to mess up potatoes. Throw some salt on them and they're good to go. These were the most tasteless thing I'd ever had, and a waste of calories. Very sadly disappointed as we were looking forward to our treat every time we traverse through here, but their motto should be changed from "don't panic...we have bannock" to "our bannock will explode your buttocks". read more

Great service: When I went to get a napkin and the dispenser was empty, young Eddie noticed without asking and came running over with one for me. That's a polite, attentive, and observant gesture that I haven't experienced for a long time. I'll definitely be back. Update: again, delicious, healthier than fast food for only a little more money. Yum!! I stopped by this cafe to check it out, and I've already been back since. I had the matcha/lavender freeze, made with coconut milk in substitute of milk, and it tasted like fruit loops. Was really refreshing, the touch of sparkle sprinkles on top made it pleasing to the eye. The taco bowl was tasty and had fresh ingredients, and the s'mores bannock is to die for. My first bannock and we absolutely loved it. Cheap, tasty and super quick. Recently tried a beaver tail for the first time and I thought this was much better. It was kind of halfway between a beaver tail and a donut. My husband had the saskatoon berry and I had the breakfast sandwich. Both were great! Would certainly stop again. read more

The cafe itself is modern, and has a bit of a feel of a franchise - which I imagine they may consider as their business seems to be going really well. I ordered the salmon on bannock. There were several slices of lightly smoked salmon on top of a cream cheese spread. There was a little lettuce to add texture and size. Great food and amazing service. I had high expectations going into this place being an admirer of bannock and having never been to an aboriginal style restaurant. I was really impressed. The place was quite busy but laid out very nicely with some beautiful aboriginal art on the walls. I was surprised at how friendly the employees were with us while we asked questions about the various forms of bannock. They have fried bannock in desert style with toppings like apple cinnamon or the more traditional Saskatoon berry. As well as bannock-wiches and bannock-burgers. I started with the apple cinnamon bannock and it was wonderful. Dough was not to thick and not too fluffy with the right amount of chewy consistency. Next was a BLT bannock-wich and it was very well made. The bacon was not dry at all. Tender but cooked. And the bannock did not disappoint once again. My wife had a veggie delight bannock-wich and it was similarly delicious. We had soup with our meals as well which was great. The servers saw that we had a third person with us who didn't order anything and they even brought her an extra bowl of soup! Of my limited exposure to aboriginal culture I have always noticed that hospitality is very important. Kekuli not only has delicious aboriginal styled food but their hospitality is in keeping with the culture as well... So don't panic and go get some bannock! read more

The food at this café is only OK. I had a sandwich of ham and cheese on a fry bread. Anyone can take packaged ham and packaged cheese and put them on a bun. It was underwhelming. The table I sat at had not been cleaned in quite a while. The place is a little shabby and not especially clean. There bannock is amazing wish the prices were a bit better for what it is. bannock is not expensive to make. That being said no one else does it so they can do it. And it's awesome there BLT and apple feta salad are so good! Great place for a quick lunch that's a bit of a different fun vibe. I tried it because it was on a show "you gotta eat here" and I'm glad I did. I pop in every few months for a bag of bannock and some bannock donuts the coconut one in the summer and the skore are so yummy !! read more

What a find! This place was a real treasure. We were in Kelowna and looking for something a little different for lunch. A quick online search led us here and were not disappointed. The Kekuli specializes in a First Nations twist on classic fast foods like burgers and tacos. Serving them in freshly fried bannock instead of traditional buns and shells. Everything here was fresh, homemade and fantastic. I had the all day breakfast. The bannock was golden and puffy outside and gorgeously soft and steaming hot inside. My eggs were as ordered and the bacon was perfect. The hash browns were simple but well done, being my favourite tiny potato pebble form. Crisp outside and tender in. My companion had the bacon cheddar bannock burger and chilli cheese fries. The fries were hand cut and fresh, drenched in fabulous homemade chilli with hand grated cheddar, pico de gallo and a drizzle of sour cream. It was an absolutely HUGE order of fries and we ended up taking the burger home to enjoy later. We also took home the cream cheese icing and skor dessert bannock and the cinnamon and sugar bannock for later. Service was friendly and efficient. I will be back anytime I am in Merritt or in Kelowna (they have TWO locations) This is a special place, two locations and absolutely worth a visit. read more

Do you like donuts? I don't (much).. but decided to share one with my mom, because the flavor combo sounded delicious: coconut raspberry. Literally. Life. Changing. So much so that we decided to buy a lemon and maple one as well as bring home the caramel macchiato flavor for my sister and her husband. Actually, if I'm going to be honest we bought the maple one to share again and the other two for them, but while waiting at the boarder crossing we decided to eat the lemon one. Sorry not sorry. I also had the Maple Canadiano which was so incredibly tasty that I burned the roof of my mouth, sucking it down too fast. It was gone in 10 minutes flat. We also had the pleasure of meeting the owner who was incredibly sweet, friendly and sincere. It was such a great way to end our very short overnight trip to (west) Kelowna. Excellent! What a find! We ate the Indian taco and it was delish!! I've eaten bannock before (boring!) but this was extremely tasty. My daughter thinks it's because it was deep fried and she thinks everything deep fried is tasty :) I say it's because it was fluffy and had good flavouring (a hint of vanilla and cinnamon, maybe?) Really friendly staff who were very apologetic for being late in delivering the mocha latte (chocolate container sprayed all over employee - she had the drips on her uniform to show it!)
