Monster media monopoly strikes again in their effort to destroy radio on our public airwaves and propagandize America with their right wing drivel.
Since the format change of 1150AM from KTLK progressive talk radio to their new lineup of Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck (in one of the nation's most liberal markets???), the ratings have predictably tanked.
In the interest of full disclosure, the ratings were not good with KTLK, but here is the MAJOR difference:
Clear Channel did not spend one thin dime to promote KTLK. No promotions, no billboards, no bus benches - nothing. They wanted them to fail from the get-go, and did everything possible to make it happen.
Since their lousy format change however, I've seen billboards all over town promoting "The HateRiot" - Real American Values My A$$. I've heard ads on their sister station, seen bus benches - suddenly Clear Channel is bending over backwards to promote the turd they have created. Had they given KTLK half the promotion they're giving "The HateRiot," it would have been a winner. Progressive personalities Stephanie Miller and Randi Rhodes beat Limbaugh in many markets - just the slightest promotion in this town would have gone a long way.
Clear Channel and it's agenda of propagandizing America from coast to coast with their right wing talk on multiple stations in every market, regardless of the demographics of the markets, is destroying radio in this country. The challenge in this country is not finding right wing talk radio - the challenge is managing to find anything else!
In response to the format change (of KTLK, (advertisers take note) I abandoned Los Angeles radio entirely, with the exception of public stations KPFK Pacifica and KPCC NPR on the FM dial. Just because Clear Channel decided to force feed me Limbaugh Beck and Hannity did not mean I was going to swallow, and I switched instead to listening to my favorite progressive talkers on other radio stations via IHeartRadio.
What's the problem with that? Clear Channel owns IHeartRadio.
I continued buying thumblefuls of water from the devil to listen to my favorite progressive talkers, until Clear Channel decided to destroy one of my new go-to stations, 760 AM in Denver CO. Enough is enough.
Advertisers again beware - not only do I not listen to Clear Channel stations in Los Angeles, I have deleted the IHeartRadio app from my phone and my computer and replaced it with TuneIn instead. Now I can get my favorite progressive talkers via independent stations like WCPT AM in Chicago - not a Clear Channel station, not on IHeartRadio - totally progressive talk. I'm encouraging everybody I can to make the same leap.
To hell with KEIB "The HateRiot," to hell with Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck, to hell with Clear Channel and their agenda to force right wing talk radio (and sports talk radio) down the throat of America, and to hell with IHeartRadio - Clear Channel's internet radio aggregator. We need to break these people - they're destroying our public airwaves, and even worse, they're destroying reasonable exchange of information and the political discourse in our democracy. read more
