As much as I love listening to Booker and Stryker and the radio station overall, mostly during the later morning and afternoons, most of the time when i try calling in for tickets for something, I can't even get through with a busy signal, let alone a ringtone! I dont mind if I'm not caller 98 now and then, but if i dial and it's still stuck on "Calling", then get hung up on, something's up!! I have been a faithful listener of 98.7 since the 90's (back in the days when it was called STAR 98.7 and the likes of Ryan Seacrest and The Jamie, Frosty and Frank Show graced the airwaves). Even when I moved to the Bay Area in 2006, I would often make the drive to LA to visit my family, and as soon as I was within range, this station would always be on in my car. Shortly after I settled in San Francisco, it wasn't too long before I found the Woody Show and became a faithful listener. I fell in love with the show for it's authentic, no-bullshit attitude. And when they were fired in 2009, I was beyond devastated and irate that the only good show the Bay Area had going for them, was no longer. Fast forward to 2014, wouldn't you know it? I was driving back home to Oakland after a visit with my family (as early as I could because LA traffic is the spawn of satan); I put it on my go-to radio station and there they were again in all of their broadcasting glory, THE WOODY SHOW! 5 years later, they found themselves fully reunited (sans Tony) on my favorite SoCal radio station and it was like the best of two worlds collided. My favorite station and my favorite morning show holding hands. Full circle! I may be in living in Milwaukee now, but I will never stop listening, especially now with live streaming capabilities and podcasts for the many times I cannot listen live. Me love! read more

This review is specific to their morning show. I was tuning in on Wednesday morning around 9:45a when I heard The Woody Show mention they were on yelp, but under their station page so of course, I had to wander on over. My favorite morning show in Los Angeles, they remind me of my former favorite show back in Philadelphia when Y100.3 PMS (Preston, Marilyn & Steve) existed. I knew when I moved and had to sit in the dreaded LA traffic, I would 'need' something to listen to, and TWS has taken the top spot. Since I don't like (talking to) people that early in the morning, listening is always better for me, and I find myself smiling in my car as they go on about random topics, including their redneck news, craigs list freak of the week, and of course, porno birthdays. They have all the personalities covered, from a gay guy, to one that is kind of a prick, to the cool chick, and then someone else who I can't really remember but is integral to this morning show. I also enjoyed hearing them bash Mike the ShowKiller (we can all relate), but he's now gone; I wish I listened enough to know what happened there, but that would mean I had to be up early...and have a regular consistent, well-paying job, which I don't. Only reason I'm giving it a 4 is because I've won many tickets and the Booker and Stryker show:). It's literally the best show I've heard and they keep it entertaining. The only problem I have with the station overall is that they play the same songs Over and over. They play "as it was, running up that hill, black summer, bad dream, somebody else, enemy, feel good" every hour! How is half of those songs alternative?? Change it up please, it's annoying. Best radio show I've heard. I listen to the podcast so I can just hear the show, no music, that's how much I love them. My husband and I have been listening everyday for a year now, to and from work and it makes my day. If I'm having a bad day they always cheer me up with her witty banter slot, Raveys commentary , first of all slot, Greg's laugh, Menace being menace, Cameron's input, Seabas' intelligent comments and Woody is overall the best! I used to be an avid listener of #thewoodyshow until this morning. The most appealing part of the show was their no politics policy. Until this morning the format stayed its course. That's when Woody decided to take a stance on reparations for descendants of African American slaves. Made it clear not his problem, not his fault, don't come looking for any money from his tax dollars. No compassion, no special treatment for black people. on my recent drive down to disneyland i was in great need of some music to listen to. it was a rough drive with absolutely no good radio. finally we got reception and 98.7 came in loud in clear. right away it was what i like to listen to. it reminded me alot of live 105 in the bay area but with more random music. the mix was fantastic with songs from now and back in the day. they play artists you don't even here to often so it was a great car drive the rest of the way there and the rest of the ride home. a station that plays portishead and deftones is alright in my book. read more

I'm moving to Hollywood in October, when ever I'm in the Los Angeles area I'm always listening to this station! I currently live in San Jose (408) and I listen to the Woody Show every morning religiously, and I download the podcast if I missed anything. The stations music is the usual for any alternative station in the US. The only improvements I would like to see would be To get LoveLine syndicated! Star 98.7 you seem to have had a make-over. The station seems a little more edgier. A few years ago, I could her denisty's child being played on the station. Now I don't think that would happen. The image change is cool. If I don't feel like listening to my iPod or a cd in my car, I don't mind tuning to 98.7. But I have one small issue. You overplay Guns N Roses. I really would like to see the release of Chinese Democracy so I can get my free can of Dr. Pepper. But seriously I don't need Welcome to the Junge, Sweet Child of Mine and Paradise City to be played like every hour. Seriously. Please mix up the music. read more

This review is based on only one thing this radio station offers - Complete Control Radio. Every Saturday night, from 10 to midnight, a broadcast called Complete Control Radio comes on, bringing LA/OC the best of old school and new school punk rock music. Now I'm a big fan of punk & ska, and sure enough this is currently the ONLY local radio station that plays punk rock. With that, I'm already sold. Punk is hard to make a station out of here in Southern California, and that was evident with the selling of 94.3 FM to a Mexican radio station; 94.3 used to be an indie punk rock station. Won't hold my breath for an explanation. I called a few days ago for what I thought was a contest for Disneyland tickets. First time they say I'm caller 2. I get through again immediately and they say I'm caller 17. Ok, I call again and get through to hear, "Alt 98.7". I say, "oh my gosh, did I win?!" Girl says, "win what?" I say, "Aren't you giving away Disneyland tickets?" This was what she says..verbatim..."WRONG!!" and then hangs up on me!!!! Ummm what?!!!! Seriously?!!! Let's assume I was wrong about which tickets (I could have been. I'll take responsibility if I was indeed wrong), but the way she talked to me, what and how she said it was inexcusable!!! Losing wasn't my problem...I was talked to and treated like garbage. Will be sending a formal complaint to station manager with time and date 12/21/18 4:39pm) I called. If this is acceptable behavior, I'm done with this station. If they are capable of stepping up and apologize, I'm more than happy to update review. Somehow I doubt I matter to them. read more

So glad I live in a place where the woody show is live streaming! ALT 98.7 has become my favorite station ever since they came on the radio. I listen to it on my podcast on the weekends to catch up on what I miss. Honestly I would listen to KROQ before but it's not for me anymore. The woody show is so refreshing that you can't get enough. It's real talk and of course there is a lot of goofing around but that's what keeps me tuning in to hear more and more. You end up wanting to know about them. And for people that don't like them I don't know what's wrong with them honestly. Live a little. I like how they do the news and what's trending. They make it more interesting and they all always break it down for you. I met them all at many events and they are also wonderful people. I discovered this station through a friend. Its an intermediate between contemporary music and our parents'. Some of the choices are dated instead of classic. Still a decent mix because its not as repetitive as other stations. They had a lounge thing that favored acoustic performances by singer-songwriters. read more

In my opinion, Los Angeles has the best selection of radio stations in the country. Either that, or I just really fit in here and/or Washington, D.C. (my point of origin) really needs some new stations. But here's my point: 98.7 FM is my favorite radio station in the city with the best radio stations. 98.7 is probably my favorite station in Los Angeles. They play alt rock, they really do seem to have fewer commercials than other stations. They recently slightly-rebranded themselves into "Alt 98.7" instead of just "98.7" and it's now a direct KROQ clone... I frequently hear the exact same song on both stations. They used to play a lot more 90s throwbacks. Like, Mazzy Star's "Fade Into You" was on regular rotation at one point. They still play that stuff occasionally but it's much less than it used to be. Current "alternative" is practically dancepop, so I liked having a station that played more old stuff than KROQ. They even got a morning show to compete with Kevin & Bean (although I do enjoy The Woody Show). Rock radio is dying, sadly, so I can't complain too much and I will be very upset if 98.7 flips formats. read more
