Common Deer happens to be one of them. Probably a nightmare to locals, but a pure dream to any and all tourists! I saw nightmare to locals bc locals complain constantly about the types of little stores that are all over their downtown areas. We have quite a few here in downtown Boise. Locals complain constantly about the tourists. Funny how locals everywhere..whether in Burlington or Boise will complain about tourists all while forgetting how much $$ tourists pump into their economies. I absolutely love supporting little stores like this. Small local shops are the absolute best. Sure, prices will ALWAYS be higher, but chances are you will find something at these stores you'll never find at another. If a touristy item...finding a unique is even better. Common Deer is one of those special places. You will certainly find some incredible little things here, Knick Knacks, souvenirs, maple syrup (now that's plentiful all over Vermont haha), candles, etc . I know, they all sound like things in every store like this. I'd like to think that...yes of course, you'll see some repeat things...especially in VT t-shirts, but each store has something the other doesn't. Common Deer is absolutely worth checking out! If you are visiting Burlington, there's a 99.9999% you will go in. It has a very inviting vibe to it. The outside does a great job...drawing you in. You'll love it! Has jewelry and lots of locally made crafts. There's also some things like specialty foods and that kind of stuff. A lot of great ideas for gifts. It's particularly a place to go if looking for something local. They sure have lots of that. Handcrafted items. There's even some food like maple syrup and granola, and that kind of stuff. Maybe kind of expensive, but that's to be expected. The whole selection is local. For sure there's a lot to check out in here. It's got plenty for all types of people. They're closed Tuesdays.

I pulled out my phone literally got SCREAMED at from across the store. I hadn't seen any of the signage that the lady said said was everywhere (looked for it tears in my eyes never saw anything)... and based on others yelps many people have taken photos too and I don't know maybe ask nicer and in a less publicly embarrassing way, people have social anxiety. I was there to get my Halloween costume and ready to spend some money. But instead I left and almost started crying. So do not enter unless you're ready to get screamed at!

This was my 1st time in the store after moving here, and stated that upon entering. The staff and…read moreboss were very friendly and helpful, however they ended up guiding me into a woman's jacket that doesn't fit and smells of excessive perfume. My ADD got the best of me in that store :/ My partner (who is sensitive to perfumes) quickly laughed/scoffed " ha, uh...no" upon seeing/smelling me try it on at home 4 hours after purchase. Called back the next morning to see if I could get store credit, was told perhaps and to come back. I don't live in Burlington so it's about 30 min round trip. Longer story shorter, no dice even when I proposed that if the store credit wasn't used in the next 24 hours = they could keep the smelly jacket AND the credit. Idk what boss/manager wouldn't see the value in this, especially for customer retention- but they didn't. Would have unloaded a bunch of accessory items onto us at worst, and probably spent $ beyond the jacket credit, but oh well ‍ Anything you can find in there you can probably find online for much cheaper, and potentially new. Will not be supporting this small business again, and will use FB market for these type of items in the future. First time customer, last time customer. Simple as that.

Liebling is my favorite clothing shop in Burlington. I don't have many pieces from the shop…read morebecause the clothing isn't exactly Vermont-esque and it can be expensive. That being said, if I were still living in a city, I would dress from head to toe in Liebling-style garb. Vermonter Kara Alnasrawi opened Liebling a few years ago. Kara is an ex investment banker who met her husband in Germany (thus the name of the shop). She saw a gap in women's fashion offerings in Burlington and decided to open a clothing shop with items she would wear. I'm so glad she did, because I share her taste in fashion. The brands Liebling carries have clean, simple lines, are made of high-end materials and indeed offer "casual luxury" like it states on the store's website. Sweaters are cashmere, denim is Japanese, shirts are made of silk or fine brushed cotton. The cut of the clothing is flattering but understated. I'm a big fan. Still, in a state where 90% of the inhabitants shop at TJ Maxx and similar bargain stores, I wonder how this shop stays afloat. Regardless, I'm so glad it's here to remind me of other places and lifestyles. Designers include Helmut Lang, Rag & Bone, ALC, Raquel Allegra, Mother Denim, NSF, Goldsign, Inhabit, etc. And the store is now carrying Isabel Borland Jewelry. I went to college with Isabel and I love her aesthetic!!!! I'm so pleased Liebling is carrying her. Her jewelry complements the clothing perfectly. The few other women's shops in town that compare to Lieblling are Monelle (Nantucket-style clothing, lots of whites and navies, stripes, nautical cuts, cotton, linens, and some fancy dresses. Casual elegance); Whim (a bit more trendy, less classic than Monelle, less luxurious than Liebling. More in lines with Ecco); Ecco (trendy mid-range brands) and Jess Boutique (hard to describe, more flowy and mature with prints, not my bag but a lot of people love this shop). The only men's shop that is comparable in the Burlington area is Michael Kehoe. Burlington isn't exactly the fashion capital of the northeast. ;)

There was a plastic cuff bracelet that wrapped in a knot that caught my eye, but at $33 or $36 dollars it just wasn't worth it. There are some cute hats in the ~$30 range. There were some plush robes available that were proudly displayed as being "Oprah's favorite robe!" Very squishy. Very expensive (about $140 I think). But some people may find it worth it, and if so, Hydrangea Too is where you can find it. Most of the jewelry looks pretty cheap, honestly. There were some interesting pearl necklaces and earrings though but again, overpriced. Lot of charms, horoscope-themed and otherwise. Some scarves, wallets and plush baby toys. In the end though, Hydrangea Too was another store that was more for browsing than actual buying. Having seen what's available, I don't see myself making a point to come here again when I'm in Burlington. Plus points for very friendly service though!

Let me preface this by saying that I moved back to VT from Philadelphia and in philly this is where I bought all my clothes, I was so sad that there wasn't a store here in Vermont or anywhere near by, I literally cried to my partner about where I was going to buy my clothes. I'm dramatic I know! Anyway, the store manager came out and greeted us all in line. She was super helpful, extremely personable, friendly and nice. The rest of the staff I met once we were inside were super helpful and friendly. The store itself seems a little small, but I think the location and store itself is really nice. The prices seemed the same as other torrids I've been too, the layout of the store was great, and they had so many if not almost all of the standard bra options in store- that alone made my day! If you haven't been inside a Torrid before- they carry women's sizes 10-30, plus size exclusive. I love their bras because I can wear the same size in basically every bra and have it fit. They carry super trendy and comfortable styles with a fit that never disappoints, and if you feel like staying home you can order online and have it shipped for free to the store for pick up. So glad my favorite store is finally in Vermont!
