What a wonderful spot to stay in King City. The property and rooms are well cared for and the owner/operators are so sweet! They have owned the property for over 20 years and I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed the checkin process and large room that had many amenities. The bed and pillows were so comfy! My room was 47 that was upstairs with a big king bed! Great night sleep... And, I left my earrings there and they were so nice to have found them and mailing them back to me. I am so grateful. And, they have the most amazing beautiful plants in their lobby surrounded by memorabilia that warmed my heart for a tired traveler. It's not easy to run a business and property like this. Keefer's Inn is a small hotel located in King City that is dog friendly ($20 per pet, per night) and one of the more affordable hotels in the area (there really aren't that many hotels to choose from to be honest in this part of California, off the 101). This hotel provides free WiFi, breakfast and parking. My husband, our little girl dog and I stayed one night on a Saturday evening, as we were driving from Los Angeles and had plans to visit Pinnacles National Park (which is another 25- 30 miles or ~40 minute drive away). I made a reservation on Hotels.com for a room with 1 queen size bed. The bed itself seemed a little smaller than a queen, and more like a full size bed. The room itself had hardwood floor, a mini fridge, microwave, hair dryer attached to the wall. The room itself was small, but clean. Across from the parking lot (we stayed in a room in the back side of the hotel, right behind the registration desk actually) is a Mexican restaurant. On the night we arrived, there was very loud live music/ band playing. But thank goodness they did stop the music at around 10 pm. Check in was okay but could have been friendlier. There was no one at check out but a box to put your hotel card in and prepackaged breakfast items (packaged Belgian waffle and granola bar). Overall, our stay was fine for one night but not sure if I would have wanted to stay any longer than that. read more

To be fair, there are no good places to stay in King City. I thought this would be our best option. Two stars, because the bed was more comfortable than I thought it would be and I slept well. I am in disbelief that people are giving this motel 4 and 5 stars. It's a nightmare. So very disappointing after a long drive. The room smelled strange, I can't even describe it. Like raw vegetables that have been in the fridge too long? Every fixture is old, cracked, and yellowing. The curtains were stained with a suspicious substance and mostly blackout except for the inexplicable holes in the blackout material. The towels were thin, mismatched, and tattered. The sheets were clean but everything else was very questionable. Worst hotel I've ever stayed at. I'm sad that this is the standard the owners think is acceptable hospitality for travelers. read more

There are not a lot of overnight options in town, Keefer's has been here since the late 1940s - after a very long days drive this old school motor inn sure did served its purpose for my needs for the night. The gentleman at the front desk was professional and friendly, check in was simple and easy even in this post covid world. A few simple plexiglass barriers, and basic common sense made the process effective and easy. Check out a dropbox at the front door the next morning, simple. Basic lodging on two floors, my lower level end of the building was easy access with at the door parking. Clean and quiet, basic furnishing made my nights stay pleasant and enjoyable. If you find yourself in King City, do yourself a favor and stay at Keefer's Inn. Don't worry about the fact that it's not a big name, it's owned by a local (and super-nice) family. The rooms are kept up well, and offer good value for the money. When my party came through the area we were worried about staying in a city we hadn't heard of before, but the staff greeted us well and offered advice about what to do in the area (and general life advice too haha). They were very accommodating to our late arrival time, and were easily reachable by phone for double checking our reservation. The only slight complaint that some people might find is that the breakfast options are very limited. That said, you can still get enough to be fueled for a morning drive/ continue your journey. I stayed at this hotel for one night while on a road trip. There are not many good options for hotels in this area of 101, so I was happy to stumble upon Keefer's Inn. It is located right off the 101 freeway in King City. I thought the hotel looked very clean from the outside. The front lobby staff was very friendly, and I was checked in quickly. What I liked most about this hotel is that you are able to park right in front of your room, so unloading and reloading your car is super easy. The room was very clean and simple; just what you would expect at this type of motel. I was just thankful to find a clean and safe motel to sleep at for one night. Good, inexpensive, unremarkable motel. I picked it mainly because they have EV charging on site, and I wanted convenient charging for my electric car before heading out to Pinnacles National Park. Rooms are nice, standard-issue motel rooms, with a larger than average mini-fridge and a pretty good mattress. The one major glitch happened my first morning: opening the microwave to warm my coffee, I discovered the previous occupant's breakfast burrito still sitting there, presumably from the day before. Ugh. The continental breakfast wasn't much -- packaged pastries one might find in a convenience store and a coffee machine. At least the coffee was pretty good. The pool was closed during my visit, presumably due to COVID-19 restrictions. It looked nice enough but pretty small. Oh, and the EV charger worked fine and was always available when I needed it. With EV sales growing, this needs to become a standard amenity. read more

This was the place I would stay at all the time, older rooms but clean, but after the remodel. They have gone down hill. We stayed here for one night last minute due to a heat wave that derailed our bike tour plans. We showed up with 2 fully loaded touring bikes, and the host was extremely nice. He apologized for not being able to give us a lower level room, and offered to help us carry our bikes/gear upstairs. The room was clean, quiet, and well equipped. Most other motels I've been in don't do a great job of cleaning and you often find hair or dirt in the room. Not the case with Keefer's. It was spotless! I appreciated that they had soap, shampoo etc dispensers, instead of single use plastic containers. The bed was also very comfortable, and the blackout curtains made the room very dark. If I ever have a need to be in King City again, I will stay here. read more

Taking into account that you're in a semi-rural area with limited amenities, this motel is okay. It's clean "enough" -- should be satisfactory to most, but neat freaks will be disappointed (a few stray hairs, some small stains on the walls). Only real complaint is that there was some kind of work going on in the back near the pool when we were there, and the workers were partying pretty loudly until 11 and 8 pm on the 2 nights we were there. read more

There was definitely a veneer of grime here. The loffice was humid and smelled of cooking odors, reminding me of road travel in the 1950s. The rooms are "no smoking" but smoking is allowed at the end of the hall, with doors propped open and chairs provided to smokers. The smoke drifts to the room. No covered parking, but that is to be expected with this 1950s model of motel. The rooms have been furnished with discards from other hotels when they renovate. The decor is a mishmash of styles. Lighting in our room was so bad I could hardly read my book. The bathroom had been renovated and had good lighting and nicely furnished. It just needed a good scrubbing. So, why did we stay here? AAA gave Keefer's two stars which in the past has been sufficient to meet our needs for a one-night stay. I would downgrade that rating to one star. read more

Courteous staff. Rooms were clean and spacious. Bed was firm but comfortable. They had nice lemongrass scented shampoo, soap and lotion to use. Newly remodeled. Our non-smoking room was in the main building, second floor (no elevator) and had a king sized bed, couch, table/chairs, desk, TV and an apartment sized fridge and coffee-maker in room. Our room was on the freeway side, but even with the window open at night it was not too noisy to sleep at night. There is an air conditioner available for use. The pool is clean with clear water and a gas BBQ available for use. Lawrence Restaurant is next to the hotel (great diner food) and The Garden House (a gift store, plus nursery with great yard art and plants, plus foodie treats) is across the street. What a pit!!! The one star is for the fact that they tried. They really did try. Sadly, this hotel/motel is not a good place to stay. There was no security lock on the door. I brought my own sheets and used them on EVERYTHING! All the furniture was stained. This hotel/motel needs a facelift! The pillows were so old they had no fluff left. The "free continental breakfast" was bananas, apples, cereal in Tupperware, and some gross Danish pastries from Costco. Needless to say, we drove to Starbucks! The workers, who appeared to be a family, were nice. I think the worst part for me aside from the stained furniture was the fact that when we checked in, we were given keys to our room but when we walked in, the room was filthy from the people who had it before us. Yuk!!! That's gross! You are all probably wondering why I was even here. Well, my aunt lives in King City and she had more people than usual for thanksgiving so we offered to stay at a hotel. Even tho the computer says I'm connected, "unable to locate server" was a frequent page response. 3. No card in room to explain how to operate air with the remote. Not a big issue, had to get up and do it. It does have a timer which is cool when you want to sleep and don't want to get up to turn it off. 4. Had to call the office for instructions to get tv to work. No card in room to tell you how to do it. 5. Website says coffee maker in room. Not in ours. See additional notes below. 6. Microwave door stuck. Needed two hands. One for the button, one to pull on top of door to get it open. Might be the button that's kind of broken. 7. Door to ice machine very heavy. 8. In room menu for the diner would be nice. What does it take to make 42 plain copies and staple them together. What if I did want carry out? Would have been nice to know what to order. 11. Computer table damaged, door frame to bathroom damaged, and mis-matched paint around the toilet paper holder. Ok, so complimentary bk is from 6 - 10 am. So 6:10 or so I go to see about the coffee pot issue. Door locked. No coffee brewing, no juice. Cereal in containers. No milk for cereal. Go back to room. 6:20 now, called office. Phone rang forever. Female with accent finally answers. I ask if coffee pot supposed to be in room. She says yes. That's it. Nothing else. I ask for coffee maker. She asked me the time, I tell her. She says "Oh, I overslept". She says she'll make the coffee in the office. I'm done and mad. Not going back over there. About 6:40 knock on door. Lady brings up two cups and creamer. I don't drink it, but wifey is happy. She tells me the pot for this room somehow got broken. Now she tells me. Nice she walked it over tho. read more

This place was conveniently located near the freeway, gasoline station, fast food, and a Safeway. If you need a place to stay on your way to Monterey or Big Sur, definitely check this place out. They do accept aaa discounts! Only reason why I'm giving this place a 4 was because the owner was outrageous, in a way it was hysterical. He couldn't find my information on his system up until I have him a confirmation number, so definitely keep that when you book with them. Once we got to our room, everything was unplugged, phone, cable box, tv, and light... So we asked the owner if he could help us get the cable working, once he came up he said to us "are you dumb?", I wasn't sure if he was joking or not, nonetheless it was pretty funny. I would say just don't take the owner too seriously, he means no harm. I'm assuming the people who stayed in the room wanted to pull a fast one on us, and the alarm clock went off at midnight, but it was fine with us because we were still up. The jacuzzi was pretty hot, good for a cool night. Overall, I would come here again to stay if given the opportunity to come back up this way. read more

So we were passing by on our way up to Northern California. Was a little tired and saw this hotel and yelped it. Reviews looked good so we decided to stay. First the good: Yes it's a nice little hotel, the people running it are nice. The hotel seems to have been recently renovated and rooms are spacious. The bad: The room walls are thin you can hear people talking in the other rooms around you. We had to move very loud guest next to us. But the reason I give it low marks is their heater / AC unit. They are newer however they were put in where the old ones were using the old casing so a lot of dirt gets trapped in there and when the heater / AC turns on it sounds like a hailstorm. Needless to say I wish I could have just driven on to my destination because I did not sleep well at all which ruined the rest of the day because I was very tired. The other thing we noticed that the door deadbolt was not aligned so the door could not be bolted shut. I had to improvise to make sure the door was locked. I hope that they pay attention to this and fix all the problems and by doing so they would have a nice little hotel. Maybe they need to sleep in each room so they can see the problems that each room has. Would I go back and stay there with the way things are there now, no. But if they fix all these things, sure. read more
