A lot of fun, very high energy, the check-in with the app was sort of not working, huge space, welcoming environment. Music is very, very loud, but they provide free ear plugs. Highly recommend to grab a pair. There was not much of a warm up, just quick movements and jumping into jumping jack's, no stretching in a gradual warm-up, nobody on stage doing a lower impact warm-up (-1 star). Choreo for the majority of the class was easy to follow, repetitive so if you don't catch it the first go round, you have time to catch it and enjoy the song and move. They encourage you to have fun. Cool down was really good, more stretching there and a gradual bringing the heart rate down. Go at your own pace!!!! Bring water, if not they have vending machines that sell water and gatorade. Have fun and move. Similar to zumba. A fitness dance party. If you're shy, you'll definitely come out of your shell. All ages and body types are up on that stage, moving and strutting their stuff. We love a place when you can shake it and burn some calories! I came here to support ANGEL and wasn't for one second disappointed. Her class is upbeat, fun, and definitely a workout. She's a boss babe with killer moves and a routine designed to make you go whewwwwww. There's ample parking which is always refreshing for a city girl! This quality has gone way downhill. The instructors can't be bothered to start class on time, call correctly, or even provide a full 60 minutes of exercise. Demonstration for the line dance at the end of class has become so rushed that people have no idea how to follow it. Despite there being tons of people on stage, nobody seems to notice that the paying customers cannot follow a line dance that is supposed to be a fun ending to the workout. And if the instructors cannot be bothered to demonstrate effectively, then they shouldn't be yelling at paying customers to do more, or do different things. Apparently this behavior passes as "personality;" I guess it's their attempt to make a crappy class "fun." But it isn't fun watching laziness in action, and as a paying customer, I don't care about personality. I prefer professionalism and a good product. read more

My friend asked me to come to a dance class with her and of course, I said yes without any sort of hesitation. I'm glad I went though. First off, the process to sign up is very smooth- you can sign up online or even go up to the front desk and go through the check-in process with them. The first class is also $3, which is a steal compared to so many other workout classes around the DMV area! Kazaxe reminds me of a HIIT zumba class that meets hip hop! Before I go in, I always recommend putting in the earbuds that they provide. You don't have to use them, but they are great if you want to save your ears because it does get loud in the studio! There are plenty of instructors at Kazaxe and all of them have their own style and flare when it comes to the choreography. My favorites so far have been Chalo, Asuka, and Leslie, but honestly, whoever's class you sign up for, you will have a really fun and rewarding time. I also love it when they have sales because it incentivizes me to buy a larger class pass, as you do save money the more classes you buy! Would highly recommend everyone to try Kazaxe if you're willing to dance your heart out, and sweat like you've never sweat before! read more

What a GREAT workout! And just as importantly, what great energy. The folks working the desk were so welcoming when I signed in for my first class today. If you book 20 classes (over 6 months) the classes are only 5$ each which is a STEAL anywhere in the country, but especially in the DMV where pilates or yoga classes are routinely 30$+. I got home and immediately bought a package, this is going to be so great for not only my health but also my spirit. Tips: Classes get hot, don't wear cotton or full-length leggings. Bags can be put to the side on the wall. Definitely use the free earplugs available at the front desk. Bring lots of water! If you don't they have bottles available for $0.50 in the lobby vending machine. Parking is easy! Highly recommend. Can't wait to go back. read more

I'm feeling the burn! I've been wanting to visit for the longest time and am so glad to finally get a chance to try Kazaxe out. Thanks to M for suggesting we come here. Since it was my first time, admission was free. Drop in's after that are $6 per class. If you get one of their package deals, it gets cheaper. Once my navigation said I had arrived at the location, I was looking for a sign that said Kazaxe. Not sure if they have a sign, but I thought I may have arrived at the wrong location. Then I saw a bunch of people in workout clothing leaving a boxing gym. That's where it's located in! So don't look for a sign that says Kazaxe, look for a boxing gym sign instead. Parking can get a bit tight, but we were able to find a spot. Parking is also free. There are 2 restrooms in here. When entering, don't expect anything fancy. There is no AC in here, just large fans. You will get an amazing instructor and a bunch of other awesome people on stage encouraging you to work out hard. Leaving the class drenched in sweat felt great. There is also a little kid section towards the front of the building, which is a nice touch. Bring water, a small towel, wear good sneakers, and get ready to sweat! read more

Kazaxe has gone downhill big time! This place is not the same. I haven't been to a kazaxe class in a while and today I has shown me reasons why I'm not coming back.The instructors always ask if there are any new people in the class? Today just so happened to have a few new people and they didn't know any of the moves. The only thing a new person will learn in this class will be booty shaking! That seems to be the main focus for the instructors. When the instructors are not dancing to show how the moves should go, there should be main stage dancers available instead of random people that don't fully know the steps. I miss the underground kazaxe when the instructors actually dance at least 90% of the class. The current instructors dance 65% of the class time if that! They need to make a change soon before they lose more paying customers! read more

Kazaxe spreads like wildfire by word of mouth and I'm glad it reached me! It really is "The House of Positive Vibes" because everyone's in such a good mood there - from the front desk, to the instructors, and to the students. All of the instructors are great and have their own style so definitely check the schedule and try to go to all of their classes at least once to find your favorite! I love Tammy's energy and I'm really glad Mark is now an instructor there too! You really don't have to know how to dance in order to have fun here! Ok so I have been coming here for about a year now. I hate cardio as it is, but Kazaxe makes it so much more fun. And I absolutely LOVE IT! When i tell you i get out of there DRENCHED in sweat. Now, for me, if I did not sweat i don't feel like i actually worked out. Any who, when i mention to people i know they get all weird out because they say, "oh i cant dance!" or they also say "Oh no I'm not going to embarrass myself there!" PEOPLE, this place a judgement free zone. On the contrary, they will motivate you to keep going and try your hardest. It is such a fun class and motivating. I dance up on stage and watching people push themselves, give me more energy to keep going. You do not need to know how to dance to come here. The staff here are....just AMAZING! You could be purple, blue, green, hell, even an alien and all drenched in sweat and they will come up to you and hug you if you need it (I experienced this first hand). Now another thing people need to understand, this isn't a full blown gym, its a warehouse and there is no a/c, but they do have big fans (mind you they can only do so much until they blow out a fuse, so HYDRATE!) It does get very hot in there but as long as your drinking water you should be fine. It does get packed so i suggest going early to get a good spot. PLEASE, please, please, give them a try. So the best workout for you are the ones you can stick to. Yes, there are lots of other types of classes and workouts that could possibly be better in one way or another, but if you can't stick to it, then what's the point? Personally, Its been about 4 years for me coming to this location. Some seasons I go 2-3 classes a week, and when training/conditioning for a race, I've gone as much as 7-9. Reasons I have been able to consistently keep coming back to this class. - the price is right. Your first class is free so no risk to try it out! After that, a class is only $6. No membership fees! There are also packages you can purchase making the classes less than $4 or you can pay monthly. - the moves are repetitive making the dances relatively easy to learn. All instructors also use the same choreo, with few alterations which allows you to focus more on doing the moves correctly (squats, lunges, abs) I've personally tried some more choreo focused classes and have learned that I worry so much about the next moves that I don't get the workout/sweat I get here at kaza - judgement free zone! Want to dance in the back so noone can see you? Need to take breaks or step outside for a breather? Want to pretend you're in a music video and shake your butt on stage? Go ahead! I recently had a baby and I was able modify the moves as I needed during pregnancy and when I returned 3 weeks after I gave birth, instructors and attendees were super supportive in helping me get back to it! - most of the instructors are friendly and super encouraging and keep you motivated. They even will take the time to break down the moves so you get the best workout you can get! Few things to watch out for: - parking can be a biatch. - this is a warehouse. No showers and no ac. - drink lots of water - bring a towel. You will get sweaty! - no mirrors (which can be a good thing!) So just try to be aware of the people around you. - wear comfy shoes. Sneakers with some ankle support and low tread are best cause you're dancing on carpet. - the friendly faces! I am OBSESSED with Kazaxe!!! It is such a welcoming, fun, invigorating environment. It is addicting!! It's also just a blast, I would say it doesn't even feel like you're working out because of how much fun it is...but trust me when I say IT IS A FULL BODY (t)WERKOUT! I've brought countless friends and everyone loves the way they feel afterwards, it can be a battle to make it to the end...but it is so so worth it! I definitely lost weight, gained muscle, and have felt such a mood boost being a Kaza monster. It's a great time to bring girl friends and make gains together! First class is free! I love my membership and when you sign up classes are cheaper. It's the kind of workout that changes your life and view on working out and healthy body image. Now that I've been coming here for a few years, I can honestly say this is the BEST spot to get a high intensity workout. The music is loud and it really pumps you up! The hardest workout I have ever done! This place is a guarantee calorie burning machine. I can barely make it through the warm-up before I find myself taking a swig for my water bottle. I truly love the sense of community this establishment provides from this friendly staff to the amazing patrons. Anyone who attends a workout class and complains about the smell is there for the wrong reason. If you're attending a workout class and folks aren't sweaty and smelly, you may have a bigger problem!! People major in the minor and Yelp is not a platform used for whining about silly stuff. And a packed class speaks volumes!! DUH!!!! I must confess, since I wrote my five star review on Kazaxe in 2010 (which was also featured in the Yelp Weekly, woop woop!) I have not come back. Apparently everybody and their mother (literally their mother!) felt the same five star love for the Underground as I did and it became IMPOSSIBLE to get a good spot unless you came thirty minutes to an hour early. To what I have to say is: "Ain't nobody got time for that!" I had heard that they recently moved to a new space in Springfield, so one sunny Saturday my sister and I dragged our butts over to their new bigger, badder, industrial complex. Check in was easy breezy (and still $5 which is a steal!). Even though I had not used my membership card in over three years, I was still pleased to see that it worked. So it's in what feels like a warehouse near industrial parks. Speaking of parks, parking can be kind of difficult so show up early or you might be walking a lot further than you'd like. KAZAXE A SAFE SPACE FOR EVERYONE BUT BLACK PEOPLE I have been patronizing KZX since it started at the underground 10 years ago. This has always been a place where I can go to free my mind and to get my body right. They promote their business as a safe space for all no matter what color, race, ethnicity, sex or gender you may be. Throughout the years I've introduced many people to kazaxe whom are still going to this day. In lieu of the recent social injustice that's going on in the world I was waiting for Kazaxe to scream from the rooftops that BLACK LIVES MATTERED. My feelings were hurt when I realized that kazaxe hadn't said a word many days after the death of George Floyd. I have seen multiple posts about LGBTQ advocacy as well as post of inclusion asking for kindness for a new participant who dresses like an infant. BUT NOTHING for Black people. The silence was deafening. So I went to our so called "safe space" the Facebook group to express my disappointment with hopes that tit would be an opportunity to have a courageous conversation and seek understanding. Boy was I wrong. Instead of just apologizing from the beginning. I was met with excuses, blame, gaslighting and being made feel like I was an aggressive black woman for even bringing it up. A majority of this behavior were from the owner and some staff. Mark and Ari were the ONLY instructor reached out just to give love without any excuses. When the dialogue started to go left many people of all races expressed their concerns about the response of the KZX team. Then all of a sudden the group was archived. We as a people were once again made feel like WE DIDNT MATTER. I just received an email from KZX that indicated that there would no longer be any social media from the business. One of the main excuses was to make it a safe space because some people were not comfortable commenting on the subject of black lives matter. REALLY.? Let me get this straight. So because "some people" are afraid to express themselves about the injustice on my people it's I no longer a safe space? White fragility is real. It sounds like this safe space you are protecting applies to everyone BUT BLACK PEOPLE. And I still have yet to get a real apology for all of the bullying and gaslighting that I experienced the last few days. Love this place! The people are all super friendly and the energy is great. Amazing cardio dance workout that is super fun. It's 50x more intense than Zumba, and the classes are always packed. I enjoy all the instructors, and all of them are pretty good at getting you pumped! This is also one of the less expensive cardio dance classes I've ever taken. Your first class is free, and you can buy different packages. And if you invite give people, you can get five classes for free! Parking can be tough on some nights, so it's good to get there early. I don't know why it's taken me so long to attend a class here but I finally did! Kazaxe is similar to zumba... on steroids. It was something different from my usual routine of the gym and yoga and it was nice to booty pop outside of a club setting. The music is great (the transitions and frequent pauses were a nice break in between dances), there's no judgment whatsoever, the instructors workout with you (not to mention that they have hot bodies!), an hour flies by -- and you get one hell of a workout! Plus it's FREE for first timers and classes are only $5 each time after that. They also sell packages as well. I don't know how I didn't know about this place until recently, but overheard some ladies talking about it at a party and knew I had to try it. I've been sticking to the noon times and the 8pm classes because furlough and January exercisers. These times are busy, but seem a little more reasonable than the earlier evening classes. I'm not a dancer at all, but I'm slowly picking up the moves, and still getting a great workout even when I'm a little lost. It's a nice change of pace from my orangetheory classes and it's super cheap so it's a nice addition to other workouts. I only wish it was a little closer to me. Beauty is pain, and pain is beauty. Working out is not something I'm a fan of. But I love coming to Kazaxe. I feel comfortable in my own skin, in the clothes I work out in, and the way I look after a work out here - because everyone is just as sweaty as I am after! Kazaxe, as I would explain it, is extreme Zumba in an underground setting. They have the bumping speakers, the crazy lights, and the outgoing instructors. The instructors are what got me to keep coming back. Even though they're bumping and grinding up on stage, it almost feels like they're standing 2 feet in front of me, yelling at me to push myself. You can tell they care about their followers, because you'll see them make eye contact with you will point at you with a thumbs up sometimes. Every time I come home for break, I make sure to get my work out in here. I'm intimidated by gym machines, I'm an awful runner, and I can't seem to find my motivation to work out by myself at home. But if you're looking for a place to shake your booty, while you sweat your brains out - THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO I'm just patiently waiting for them to bring Kazaxe more down south so I can get my Kazaxe on down here. I decided to visit this place based on the great yelp reviews and Instagram videos... and this establishment lived up to its reputation. I was greeted with a warm smile and no up sale on purchasing future classes when checking in. The instructor was full of energy and made the class fun yet a great workout. This is a high intensity Dance Fitness class and you will definitely get your money's worth. First class is free and after that classes are $6 per class, if you buy a package the price per class gets cheaper. Classes are held in a big warehouse type-room with no mirrors. This is a no judgement place so wear whatever makes you comfortable and be prepared to sweat. In the summer months, it gets hot so be sure to drinks lots of water (before, during and after class). This place quickly became a second home for me and I encourage everyone that enjoys music to come dance with us. read more

I've been taking Kazaxe classes for almost eight years. When I first started coming, classes were fantastic. Azuka taught more often and Mimi's class was the best. Mimi leaving was a big loss to Kazaxe. I still enjoy classes, but have noticed the following: 1) Intensity. Eight years ago, I'd leave a class drenched in sweat. Now, I get a workout that's okay (sweat a little). 2) I loved that Mimi's class was a solid dance class. She didn't stop to talk, correct form etc... She also had solid energy and danced through the whole song (while some instructors will go check on music, talk to the crowd, etc...). 3) Two instructors lecture the class. An example from today, "I need more energy! What's going on with the class? I'm going to make you all do squats." Those instructors also spend a lot of time talking and giving tips on proper form. No one is taking this class to learn proper squat form, we're here to dance! 4) Some of the instructors clearly aren't dancers (aren't fun to watch). Kazaxe used to be more of a dance/zumba studio, and now it feels like a HIT class. Overall, Kazaxe is still good. I enjoy classes with Paige, Mark, Azuka, and Nano/Chalo. I did, however, want to write this review because it's not what it used to be and that's a bummer. read more

So love this class. If you want a great high intensity workout and learn how to dance, this is it. Everyone is so friendly.I have been attending for a month and my body is so much stronger. They is no excuse.just check it out. All the instructors are great. Note Tuesdays 7:40 class is very crowded.but it's worth it. Thank you yelp and other gremlins for recommending this class.
