As a lifelong "athlete," I've consistently found myself in and out of doctors' offices and physical therapy clinics for minor injuries and concerns. In my experience, I've never dealt with a practice as incompetent--and potentially fraudulent--as this one. The adage "never attribute to malice what can be explained by stupidity" certainly applies here, so take this anecdote with a grain of salt. I visited this practice for a second opinion regarding some persistent, minor tenderness in my foot. A previous doctor had likely diagnosed the issue correctly, but for the sake of crossing T's and dotting I's, I wanted to get x-rays and a second opinion. While the x-ray process was satisfactory, the consultation I received from the so-called doctor was laughable. He clearly had little--if any--understanding of endurance athletics and flip-flopped on diagnoses and remedies at least a dozen times in under 10 minutes. Perhaps he was going for a world record? In his incoherent bleating, he shifted from claiming I had a stress fracture (despite me running 75+ miles a week for several months on that foot), to walking it back with "never mind, you don't," to recommending an EKG, to postulating prescribing a nerve medication typically used by senior citizens (I'm nowhere near that age group). Finally, he came full circle and recommended an MRI to diagnose a stress fracture--even though he admitted I "probably" didn't have one. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I made it clear to both the doctor and the staff that I had no intention of spending money on an MRI, yet they scheduled one for me anyway without my consent.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The cherry on top of this insult sundae was the billing process. I paid for the x-rays during the visit, but was later charged again for both the x-rays and the consultation. I received multiple text messages, emails, and physical letters demanding payment, all reflecting the double charge. Attempts to pay online showed a ridiculous price, so I had to call the office several times to get it sorted out. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After the first call, I was told they would contact me with the corrected bill. Three weeks went by with no follow-up--just more letters with the same inflated charges--so I had to call again.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Thankfully, I wasn't ultimately double charged, but the experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Again, I can't say definitively that this is a fraudulent practice--malice, stupidity, and all that jazz--but I would still avoid this place like the plague based on my experience. read more

Beware of Excessive Charges and Hidden Costs While the medical care at Kayal was competent, the billing practices were outrageous and left me feeling completely taken advantage of. My daughter suffered a simple ankle sprain. We first visited a local urgent care where she received an X-ray, diagnosis, and ankle brace--all for a reasonable $200 total (with my $35 copay included). They suggested a follow-up with an orthopedist, so we chose Kayal. We brought the original X-rays and brace to the appointment. Despite having everything needed to assess her injury, Kayal insisted on repeating the X-rays and replacing the existing brace with one nearly identical to the original. Their diagnosis was exactly the same: a sprained ankle. The difference? The bill was over $1,600--including $140 for their brace and hundreds more for redundant imaging. Because of how they billed, they maxed out insurance reimbursement limits from two different companies, leaving me with an additional $165 balance for X-rays alone--on top of what insurance had already paid. In short, Kayal's prices were exorbitant, unjustified, and far beyond industry norms for the same services. The experience was a hard lesson in how some medical providers exploit billing systems at patients' expense. If you value transparency, fairness, and integrity in healthcare pricing, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere before choosing Kayal. read more

I would have to say that my experience with kayal group has not been the best. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The staff was always friendly but treatment process is moderate at best.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Upon my initial visit, I met with the doctor on staff who, after taking X-rays recommended some rounds of pt and chiropractic care. If my symptoms did not improve a MRI would more than likely be the best route. My second visit with the doctor was not a meeting, just a check in accompanied by a 75 dollar co pay and a quick overview by a nurse who asked me how I was feeling and that I should get a mri. This in my opinion could have been taken care of over the phone. After getting an MRI a 3rd doctors visit was booked. I was shown in and told that I needed to get an additional round of xrays, which led me to believe that there was no finding from my mri (unfortunately there was). [[HIGHLIGHT]]After completing the x ray I met with a pa/nurse who was very nice and professional. If you are considering going to Kayal Orthopedic, please think twice and consider RUNNING FAST somewhere like HSS in Paramus instead. I wanted to share what i went through in the hope of preventing someone from going through what I did.I went to Kayal Orthopedic almost a year ago for lower back pain on the left side. I am a healthy, active 35 year old. I work out daily and take great care of myself.During my visit, the doctor immediately focused on my hip. After ordering an MRI, he told me I had a labral tear. I never once complained of hip pain, but I trusted his judgment when he said surgery was necessary. In April, I underwent surgery to repair my left labrum. As I started recovering, it became clear that the original pain I came in for did not improve and instead progressively got worse. By May, I was essentially useless and could do nothing but lay horizontal. It was 5 months of agony. I eventually went back to the doctor in tears, explaining that the surgery had done absolutely nothing for the pain I was experiencing. Only after surgery, and six months later, did he finally decide to evaluate my back. My back was the issue all along, the only thing that had ever been hurting me. Undergoing unnecessary surgery and months of pain could have been avoided if my concerns had been properly evaluated from the start. At that point, MRI showed slightly bulging discs. I was then referred to their pain management doctor, where I met with his PA for a consultation. the PA pointed out that the epidural they were planning to give me at L4 L5 likely would not help much and mentioned that my pain appeared to be coming from my SI joint. After researching SI joint pain on my own, which I had never even heard of before, everything finally clicked. The symptoms matched exactly what I had been describing from the very beginning. My experience with the pain DR. was just as disturbing. Patients were lined up in a hallway with no chairs and shuffled in and out for epidural injections with little explanation. It felt rushed, chaotic, and completely impersonal, like herding cattle. No sense of individualized care, not shockingly the injection did not help at all. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The doctor was cold and dismissive and treated the entire process like an assembly line After everything I had already been through, this encounter was deeply unsettling[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. After all of this, I knew something still was not right. And honestly, the Kayal physical therapy was just as concerning. The clinic was completely overcrowded, WAY to many patients and only a handful of Dr's. Every time I went I had to explain my situation over again. There was no individualized attention, It felt chaotic and disorganized, more like crowd control then care. At that point, I decided to seek a second opinion at HSS and met with a spine specialist. Within one visit, he told me very clearly that he would never have operated on me if I had been his patient. It is important for me to be clear that I did in fact have a torn labrum. However, the pain that was truly debilitating and the pain that led me to seek care in the first place had nothing to do with that labral tear. He explained that I could have lived my life normally with that tear and never needed surgery. He explained everything thoroughly and recommended a series of injections. One of those injections was the same type I had previously received at Kayal Orthopedic, was successful at HSS, but not Kayal. I went through several types of in injections at HSS Dr Vyas and WALA, the pain was gone! I could live again. The difference in care was night and day. At HSS, I was given a gown, spoken to like a human being, seen on time, and treated with respect. i was on a proper operating table. The doctors took the time to explain what they were doing, followed up afterward, and made sure I was okay before I left. There was intention, communication, and accountability at every step. After months of pain, an unnecessary operation, and a prolonged recovery i was devastating. It confirmed what I had felt all along. My symptoms were misdiagnosed, my concerns were overlooked, and I underwent surgery that never should have happened. Throughout this entire experience, it became painfully clear that this place $ and volume over patient care. My insurance was billed hundreds of dollars for tests i never needed, followed by a try this try that process of elimination injections and procedures. It was to the point where I could even keep up with how many things they were injection or trying on me when all they had to do was MRI my lower back. There was no clear diagnosis and no cohesive plan, just constant referrals and procedures. Experiencing care at HSS made it painfully clear how lacking my prior treatment had been. I realized just how dismissive, disorganized, and impersonal my experience elsewhere was. No one should have to go through months of pain, unnecessary procedures, and confusion just to finally receive thoughtful, coordinated care. read more

Please note that I do not typically write reviews, but I feel it is important to make others aware of this practice. I visited Kayal for consultation regarding hip pain, and the doctor referred me to their in-house therapy and chiropractic services, which only worsened my condition. After undergoing extensive imaging (x-ray, CT scan, MRI), at Kayal Imaging, I was informed that surgery was necessary and that it be performed at their own operating facility. The doctor was insistent, and I felt pressured to agree to the surgery, when I inquired about the cost, I was told that estimates would only be provided once the surgery was scheduled. I felt their eagerness to proceed with surgery was concerning, so I stopped visiting them. Unfortunately, my pain worsened this year. A friend recommended a doctor in Ridgewood, and though it took me a few weeks to get an appointment, I decided to go. I brought some of my medical records from Kayal, and after taking one x-ray, the new doctor concluded that Kayal's diagnosis was incorrect. He explained that my pain did not align with findings. He prescribed medication, and within two weeks my pain was almost gone. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The doctor requested all imaging records from Kayal but obtaining them has been challenging.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I urge everyone to thoroughly research their healthcare providers, seek a second opinion, and be cautious of facilities like Kayal, which appear to operate more like a business than a medical practice. Stay away. Stay far away. Kayal's goal is simple: to make as much money as possible off of each patient. This is evidenced by Dr. Kayal's signed and reserved parking space in the back. Depending on when you come you will likely see either a Bentley or a Ferrari parked there. They will recommend therapies, treatments and surgeries you do not need. They will make you see multiple doctors you do not need to see and your care will be coordinated by a PA who has no idea what he is doing and has the bedside manner of a rabid raccoon. All of the receptionists and the people you speak with to make an appointment on the phone are rude and miserable. Recommend to your insurance company that they discontinue doing business with them. They are a prime example of the poor state of greedily run health care in the US. read more

After some miscommunication in my last visit, I can update and say this place is top notch. My last visit left me a bit upset because I was in a lot of pain and didint feel that I got the best diagnosis and action plan. Dr. Sood called me himself to reassure me that the diagnosis the staff gave me was the correct one but he would go even further for me . He made it so that my MRI and follow up visit (with him personally) would be expedited as he understood I was in a lot of pain. He explained to me what the next steps would be and made me gain trust in the facility once more. I have used the Stony Point office for appointments and physical therapy and have never had a bad experience. I waited 45 minutes. When I finally got into an exam room, a young man came in and introduced himself as a PA. He seemed very rushed. Sped through my initial exam, spoke way to fast. Lacked patience. Doctor Kayal saved my life. Not dramatically like a heart transplant but he restored my ability to walk without pain. I HAD BOTH KNEES AND BOTH HIPS REPLACED. Ostio ate away ALL my cartilage. It was severe bone on bone pain in ALL 4 joints. As a clinical chemist I know the human body fairly well. Dr. Kayal "partnered" with me to guide me through the whole process. We referred to my Xrays and I understood all that was involved. The whole process took about two years to completion. That was 15 years ago. My legs are straight and pain free. My hips are pain free as well. Stryker implants all around. I would have liked to be awake for these surgeries but maybe not. They are VERY complex and involved and require a HIGHLY skilled physician even with the laser guided instruments that assist the doctors today. Stryker calls it a navigator. Every year the technology advances, and Dr. Kayal, not only invented several instruments to make the replacements more precise, but his keen intuitive knowledge and attention to detail, will ensure success. Dr. Sood is absolutely the best. Had a total shoulder replacement in late December 2022. He did a fantastic job. By mid February, almost back to normal. Dr. Sood was my second opinion. Went to another orthopedic surgeon prior to meeting Dr. Sood, and he told me I needed a reverse shoulder replacement, a very invasive procedure. This was after an MRI, cat scan and xrays. This guy was completely wrong. Met with Dr, Sood from Kayal and he told me a reverse was NOT what I needed, and he was absolutely correct. Always get a second opinion. But, if you see Dr. Sood first, a second opinion is probably not needed. read more
