I've been battling a chronic ankle injury for years now, and I saw no improvement working with my previous podiatrist (who also didn't take me seriously when I told him my ankle might be structurally damaged). Dr. Melamed was very attentive and listened to me, and I never felt like I was being rushed out the door. He was also willing to be flexible with his recommendations when something wasn't working. I had seen another podiatrist first for an old metatarsal fracture that I felt hadn't fully healed, but she was so rushed and her staff so unhelpful that I would've found another doctor even if my insurance hadn't dropped her. Dr. Melamed seemed genuinely enthusiastic about attacking the problem. He also explained its cause and how it could occur again --super important info. He went out of his way to get me in for an MRI before his office closed for a week. He has fitted my running shoes with inserts to try out (free) in an effort to prevent further damage. Dr. Melamed is a consummate blend of professionalism, geniality, and efficiency. He manages to be very fast with procedures while taking the time to explain things, and to establish your comfort at every step along the way. For example, I visited his office today to deal with an ingrown toe nail. He surveyed the problem, anesthetized the toe, cut the offending part out, and dressed the wound in ~10 minutes. He made sure I understood how to treat it, and even gave me special advice for how to prepare it for my upcoming race. read more

I'm came to him with a chronic ankle ailment and he patiently worked with me through various remedies to ultimately agree upon the long term solution. He did not rush, is patient, carefully explains his process, and is as kind and caring as they come. On top of all that, he was sensitive to medical costs and offered flexibility for various payments. I have not been a paying customer for over a year (a good sign!!) and we recently connected over the phone to see how I'm doing and if any issues have re-emerged. (They have not!) Dr. Scott Melamed was wonderful. I have been dealing with pain in my left foot for 3 months now and another doctor told me it was broken. I went into see Dr. Melamed for a second opinion and he immediately suggested I get an MRI and said that at my age a simple stress fracture should have been healed by now. He set me up with the MRI that day. Turns out I have bursitis. I had been incorrectly diagnosed for over 3 months. Thank goodness I went to see Dr. Melamed and recommended the MRI. I cannot take the proper course of action to heal my foot. Don't think twice about calling Dr. Melamed. He knows feet! read more

- HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - I had a problem with my foot for month ; thought I had something stuck under that didn't want to get out. It was, of course, getting worse and very painful with sports and long walks in the City. I called a bunch of podiatrists (in Surgery clinics) I found on Yelp, who asked me about my health care insurance before anything - which I understand, but find extremely irritating. When I finally got an answer about "if I should go to see a podiatrist for a consultation about an hypothetical splinter in my foot", they nearly all wanted me to go to the emergencies, saying that they don't want to deal with external objects because it was too risky (??!!) OR they announced me crazy expenses for X-rays, and surgeries with necessary anesthesias. I was desperate because none of these advices seemed trustworthy. I felt like I was gonna pay for an expensive consultation, and at best, be rescheduled for an operation. For a splinter in my foot horn.... And then, Dr Scott Melamed answered me back. After listening to what might be my problem and what were my concerns, he was extremely clear in his explanations and recommendations. I took an appointment immediatly without hesitation. -- LONG STORY SHORT : He is an outstanding professional. He took me right on time, he listened to me very carefully, answered every question with great patience and precision, and explained everything I needed to know about what was going to happen, and what will I be in charge of after the procedure......... which was nothing but band aid, and no pain at all, at anytime, and without anesthesia. Must admit he's some kind of hero to me now !! He even took as much time as I needed to answer me a lot of question about foot care I had in mind for years. I can tell Dr Scott Melamed is a very warm and caring person, with a great sense of humor (which can be useful if you are a little stressed by the procedure) and responsability. Some doctors exist and you see them and it's just part of the drill of life. It's fine. Other doctors deeply care about you. They are obsessed with your well-being and how to help you heal. They are not satisfied with "do this and see you in 2 weeks", in fact they are not satisfied at all unless you are making real concrete progress. They transcend the title of Doctor, because their treatment literally changes your life! This is Dr. Melamed. I suffered from plantar fasciitis for 2 YEARS with no successful treatments from other Doctors. They didn't follow through to healing despite their "treatment" and"physical therapy" sessions. I don't think they deeply understood Plantar fasciitis and they didn't exert the effort and take a serious approach to healing. I finally found Dr Melamed and he formed a plan of attack, I stuck with it, and MY LIFE WAS CHANGED. Seriously. Fast forward after treatment and some custom orthotics and I am feeling awesome with absolutely no restrictions. Dr. Melamed is the best podiatrist I have ever dealt with. The man knows feet. Not only was he able to correct an ongoing condition that I had but he was also fantastic when I was in an accident and broke my toe (x-rays performed in his office, medical shoe for $15 when other offices charge over $100). He is very approachable, answers all of the questions I can think of, and has a wonderful sense of humor. He really cares about his patients and it really shows. Dr. Scott successfully treated four broken bones in my right foot after I was not satisfied with treatment from an orthopedic surgeon. His bedside manner is great, he gave me some good tips on buying sneakers to prevent further injury, and even added some extra cushion to the new sneakers I purchased. read more

I'm so happy I found dr. Melamed more than a year ago. He was able to solve all my foot problems and I was able to wear all my beautiful shoes again. Now, after more than a year, I had to go back for an emergency and he was great as always. I knew that I didn't have to wait to see him and that my appointment would go smoothly. I read reviews about this practice before going there and thought that they must be planted (seriously, all 5s are suspicious to me when ALL New Yorkers do is complain...), but... I needed my foot checked out and he was able to see me on the same day. Regardless, 5 stars are completely deserved. Quality of care: I was given a thorough exam and several treatment options. He took the time to explain why I was in pain, as well as how each option would help. Then he took me through each step (pun INTENDED!) of the recovery process and explained each prescription thoroughly. He even followed up to see how my recovery was progressing. Office practices: I was seen AT my appointment time because they don't overbook. WHY DON'T MORE OFFICES OPERATE LIKE THIS?!? To me, there's nothing like sitting in a doctor's office, knowing you NEED them, and then waiting around only to be rushed through your exam because they are behind. Not the case here. It was a breath of fresh air for sure, and not something I've seen in any doctor's office I've been to. Fortunately, I don't run (PUN!) into foot problems a lot, but at least I know there's a great doctor nearby if I do. read more

My first visit to Dr. Melamed was through a friend's recommendation. I am so glad I followed it. Dr. Melamed was kind, personable, and very thorough. I'd had a long-standing painful big toe. Over years, other podiatrists treated it and explained it, but never solved it. After taking x-rays himself to rule out bone complications, Dr. Melamed offered a very different diagnosis. He treated it in one session in his office, and encouraged me to call if any follow-up treatment is needed in the future. The pain is gone. Should it ever return, I'll be happy to go back. read more

I now know why my feet are shaped the way they are and why I can tolerate some shoes but not others. I'm not crazy! I saw Dr. Melamed for a nail condition and walked away informed and assured. The office, though slightly hard to find (in the basement of what appears to be an apartment or discrete office building), is very clean and bright. The Dr. was the only one in the office at the time (looked like his secretary, with whom I had spoken several minutes earlier, had just gone to lunch.) He welcomed me with a smile and we pleasantly joked back and forth a bit while I filled out the paperwork. I never felt rushed, and spent a good 30-40 minutes with him. He took plenty of time explaining not only the condition I had, but the options for treatment, what he recommends, and then genuinely listened to my questions and concerns. I have been going to Dr. Scott Melamed for the past 4 years. I am a runner, working (wearing heels) mother of two. Problems came up with my feet anywhere from a bone crack, Plantar Fasciitis, bunions, to ingrown nail (painful!). Dr. Scott always made right decisions for me in terms of treatment, medication, guidance on therapies, and overall care. Dr Scott Melamed is incredible. My previous podiatrist was relocating and I need to be assess stats. I called Dr. Melamed and to my surprise he returned the call right away. I explained to him that I didn't have any insurance, and he gave me a reasonable quote and scheduled me right away (same day). What was so imminent that require same day appointment. A few months ago while at the gym. I drop the corner of the adjustable bench on my toe, it didn't require an emergency visit to ER, and since I was working for mussolinI i ignored the subungual hematoma under the nail and worked with a gait. I know I should had seen a podiatrist but I had used up all my sick days and since there was no signs of infection, such as exude. I didn't make any fuss. I dealt with the pain and continue with my routine including my gait. After I resigned from my job, a gal can only take so much. Now I had the time and decided it was time to get it my toe check on the same day and get it over with. And yaas I selected Dr M based on his yelp's reviews yelp and what seal the deal was speaking with him over the phone.. I initially wanted to removed the nail , but Dr. said that was not the best treatment option, since the original nail was providing protection for the new nail to grown. He drill some tini holes for the subungual hematoma. I am extremely satisfied with his honesty and professionalism. read more

Incredible bedside manner and truly cares about each one of his patients. I found Dr. melamed for my husband after we were both disappointed by his previous podiatrist and that office (hasty exam, front desk was a disaster). Dr. Melamed takes his time to answer all questions and even helped advise my husband for issues with his back. When it came time for my husband to get an MRI - his office took care of all the pre-authorizations with insurance and getting in touch with the Radiology center. If you're in NYC and have foot issues, do yourself a favor and go to Dr. Melamed, even if it takes 3 subway transfers or an Uber ride. All doctors should be like Dr. Melamed. I came in for orthodics and not only did I get them, but I got an education on the mechanics of my foot, how I walk, and why the orthodics help. After receiving the orthodics, he's no longer charging a copay, which is not something I expected. He's also genuinely pleasant person to talk to. read more

I came to Dr. Melamed with what I thought was ankle sprain -- turned out it was a fracture. In a word, amazing. Dr. Melamed is warm, friendly, demonstrates a knowledge of podiatric practice, and has a good sense of humor. He's been great to work with since my new insurance does not cover my old podiatrist. Unlike other podiatrists that do scans of your feet or have you step in the foam boxes to customize orthotics, he does plaster casts which I understand are much more precise in fitting and are better quality. Dr. Melamed is incredible and his practice raises the bar for respecting patients and patients' time. First of all, they have a no waiting policy. The doctor is committed to seeing patients at their ACTUAL APPOINTMENT TIME. [What! ] To take it a step further, I accidentally showed up a week early for an appointment (I'm not usually so disorganized- I swear!!) AND it was also a late appointment time (5:45pm). This scheduling error was 100% my fault. I was about to leave, but Dr. Melamed encouraged me to stay and saw me within a just a few minutes. I cannot say enough positive things about my experience at Progressive Foot Care and Dr. Melamed. This practice was recommended by my dermatologist and did not disappoint. Hours - evening and weekends are available, very accommodative for those that work M-F during the day.
