I just returned from seeing Dr. Michael Collins for a few plantars warts on my feet.
I had been procrastinating having them looked at because I can't stand having my feet touched. Honestly, being touched below the knee makes me incredibly skittish and jumpy. So I wasn't looking forward to having the areas scraped down and then frozen.
Dr. Collins managed to put me completely at ease. When he asked if I would like some water (which I really wanted after biking there in a hurry) I didn't want to be a bother so I said no.
He even noticed that I wanted water but was trying not to be a burden and he got me a bottle of water anyway. It was the kind of gesture that made me feel so at home -- this shows me that Dr. Collins was listening not only to what I was saying, but what I wasn't saying.
He told me I could tell him if I needed him to stop, which really reassured me. He helped me to relax which made the whole thing much easier. And when it was time to go in and do the uncomfortable scraping, he knew how to get me talking about common interests, quickly figuring out which movies or tv shows we both love, and working favorite quotes into the session.
Strange to think that I can't get pedicures because they make me too uncomfortable, but this guy was scraping down warts with a scalpel and had me laughing and smiling and chatting like I was with one of my friends.
In addition, he gave me a thorough explanation of all the steps I can take to prevent these from coming back, and where I can get the most cost effective supplies (felt U-pads) online.
I'm going back next week for a follow-up treatment, and I'm honestly looking forward to it. I already know I'll be in great hands and that he'll get me through any discomfort with patience and humor.
This is the kind of medical experience everyone deserves, but seldom finds. THANK YOU, DR. COLLINS!!! read more
